Stardew Valley for Nintendo Switch |OT| Starving for a Harvest

Gotcha. THat's not TOOOOO bad. I could just let my kids have the deauthorized one.

better than nothing.

Yeah. I'd love to give my gf access to all my switch games. It seems I can authorize my account on her switch, download all the games there, then deauthorize my account on her switch. Then she can at least play the games on her switch using her account?

Not possible. Once you deauthorize she won't be able to play said games anymore.

Man - after maximum hype ofr this game...I'm not jumping at buying it for some reason.

I got SD2 right away and 100% it. I got Golf Story right away and beat it last night.

I enjoy Animal Crossing but can't say I ever played Harvest Moon. Is this just a grind game?

the grind is fun, though!

but on a serious note - i feel like a "grind" game is something where you do the same thing over and over again for tiny gains.

In Stardew Valley, apart from watering your plants - which would be recommended - , you're free to do whatever each day, one day you'll be foraging, one day you'll be in the mines. And whatever you do, you'll reap the rewards very quickly.

I feel like the reward loop is tight and rather satisfying.

So it's more like an Animal Crossing where you can actually do stuff.

Lmao, I planted the seeds I was given, ran out of energy, wandered the town wondering how to eat, got to a few places that closed just as I got to them, talked to emo guy, got lost, ran out of even more energy trying to cut my way through debris, barely made it back home and tried eating some coal I had.

I'm new.

I never played it but my impression is it's just like Animal Crossing. I hope it's low pressure and I can just let the days pass as I want them to and play the game that way. I look forward to trying it later today.
Less pressure than Animal Crossing for me because I could never find time to play in daytime (and changing date/time is a pain) but time does pass each day which forces you to decide what you want to accomplish each day.

The important thing to know is that you will never miss anything in SD as far as I know. So don't feel like you have to maximize your farm or relationships or anything immediately.

hahah.

well if you really want to make a good impression as the new guy in town look for food in everyone's garbage can :p

The fact that I can't miss anything makes it nice and relaxing. I can do whatever I want without making more work for myself down the line.

IS there a way to know what villagers I have not introduced myself to yet?
I believe in one tab of the inventory menu it will show you a list of villagers or at least their silhouette if you haven't met them. But if you haven't met someone yet you should know!

Well, there's certain crops and fish you can only find at certain times of day/night/weather or season like Animal Crossing but, unlike Animal Crossing, it's not real time so you can just play until that season/weather condition comes around again.

Honestly, my best advice for someone new to the game is that you shouldn't stress too much about farming. Don't overstretch yourself and plant too much or you'll be spending all day watering your crops.

I really hope they'll release a cart version... Long time Harvest Moon veteran, I want to jump in, but not digitally.

Well, it's not as if AC was still harsh when you play with the clock in system settings, even the activity log seems to cope with time travelling, and Switch don't even have an activity log anymore...

Generally a good port? Going to hold off until I finish golf story but if it’s a good version I’ll definitely jump in

I'm going back and forth on this. I figure it'll get a physical release eventually, but I really want to play it again. I don't know if I want to wait, but if it's coming in a month or two I can totally wait.

I haven't played on the PC since the big update the game had. I have almost 100 hours on the PC.

There's a tab in the Inventory screen that shows all of the people you can meet. There are a few that are outside the town that you won't meet until you've played for a few in-game years, though.

I always go physical but if a game comes out on the eShop and there's no guarantee of a physical release I just go digital.

Any starting tips? Do people typically clear their entire field area of rubbish before starting? I'm guessing not since it appears to be massive.

Finally was able to eat some trout soup which cost half of my entire savings.

Dug through some trash and ate some seaweed.

😷

The port seems great so far, I haven't noticed any slowdown or anything, and it looks lovely on the Switch's screen.

The only issue I have with it so far is that it takes kind of a long time to save after each day...like I'm talking around a full minute. I've never had this happen on the PC, and there's even a warning message saying not to turn off the console "even if the screen is still", which is new. Not a huge issue, but kinda too bad.

Somebody said the saving also takes a long time on the PS4. If that 's true than it's not likely to be fixed anytime soon.

Well if you bought 10 acres of land in real life would you clear the entire place (by hand) before doing anything else? :p

Just clear a decent area where you want some crops. As time passes grass/trees/etc will spread across your farm though (I think fences may keep it at bay?)

Lol good point, it's just what I'm used to from Harvest Moon.

Is it just me or does "always run" not actually do anything? Character moves at the same speed regardless of the box being ticked or not.

I noticed it makes you walk faster with the D-pad, well, as fast as the joystick. Haven't seen actual running yet, kinda bummed out about that.

Ok this is the second time I'm getting stuck on this, when you create an item and your inventory is full, how do you x out of it? Just seems like I can only switch items around in the inventory and that's it.

Edit: just figured it out, you have to put the created item back on the same spot which makes it cancel.

Slow character movement speed is really my only big issue with this game. I would love for it to be like 50% faster, or even just an option to use up some endurance.

That's too bad. I wonder why it's so much longer than on PC. Huh.

On the ign review they listed limits in socializing as a con, can anyone elaborate? Also is this one of those games where you keep earning from your hard work even when you’re not playing?!

I don't think the save times are too bad. So far it's been around like maybe 20 seconds per night.

Someone said close to a minute in this thread, and I've never come close to that. Is there some other issue that could be affecting saves?

Is the audio really crackly for anyone else? I've swapped between handheld and docked and it's coming out crackly/distorted either way.

Should I start with a Standard Farm? Forest Farm sounds interesting, as does Wilderness Farm, though I'm not sure if that would be too difficult for a beginner.

Edit: Eh, I'll go with the forest one. Foraging stuff in it sounds like it will be helpful.

My wife picked the last mode with monsters at night.

I hope its fun and she didnt screw herself. Shes been waiting for this game since it was announced.

Oh wow, the game knows it is going to save slowly.

Spent a little while clearing the field. Feels so much better than Animal Crossing for doing things like that. Started building a fence. Crushing it.
