Can we please update the OP with Neatos opinion. It's very important
are people seriously saying the icon is good just because of the logo?
gross, should've been this

Yes.
Yes.the icon is basically the bliss wallpaper with the logo.
neiteio ruined it all for us
Hey wait why is wargroove there!?

How does this icon compare to other icons for SV?
Hmmm I seeIt's a dev unit and they're testing Wargroove on it. Adding it into the picture was a power play though.
Yes.
May every developer who doesn't include the game title in text on the icon in some manner never be allowed to release a game on switch again.
Lost opportunity.

Switch icons are gonna be a talking point for every game going forward 🤣
Yes.
It's so bizarre that gamers are making a huge deal about Switch icons. tell me why should it be big issue as people make it out?
You should read the threads, because the entire issue was about being able to know what game is what from a glance. Nintendo suggests an icon that includes a logo and the snake pass icon updated and dropped it's perfectly fine one. No one is trying to start a standard of beauty and taste, it's about functionality. The voez game will soon be swamped by other anime like titles and will be swallowed up as just another one without it's name present. This is incredibly stupid. I shouldn't have skipped out on those threads at all then. There is no problem if a dev makes an Icon that has a distinctive look to it, Ala VOEZ. I thought y'all agreed on having no lazy app style icons instead of just having a regular title and a regular background and hailing that as great.
Not for me to answer as IÂ’m not one of them. It's so bizarre that gamers are making a huge deal about Switch icons. tell me why should it be big issue as people make it out?

YouÂ’d know if it was.Wait Wargroove is already out?
It's part functionality — the ability for you (or a guest less familiar with your system library) to quickly identify the game you want without selecting each icon one by one to read the scrolling title. This will be especially important as more and more similar-looking games crop up. Currently, Sonic Mania's icon is just Sonic's head, but you can safely assume that Sonic Mania won't be the last Sonic game on the system. It's so bizarre that gamers are making a huge deal about Switch icons. tell me why should it be big issue as people make it out?
I'm going to push back against this movement as revenge for asking me to lift and move everything for you. It's part functionality — the ability for you (or a guest less familiar with your system library) to quickly identify the game you want without selecting each icon one by one to read the scrolling title. It's also part aesthetics — how nice the icon looks on the home menu, which I'm constantly visiting as I check each screen I take (4,000 and counting on Zelda alone), and as I check my friend list, change controllers, check battery, adjust settings, or even just check the time on the clock. It adds up.
And it's part consistency — the game following Nintendo's recommended format of a key visual + the title of the game. Some people simply prefer their digital collections to look well-curated rather than a chaotic mess of apps akin to a smartphone, especially since the app icons here take up three-fifths of the home menu screen.
So there are a number of reasons. And really, if you're a dev who has worked for 15+ months on a game, taking 15 seconds to create a nice icon probably won't hurt. People either don't care, or they do, so might as well make a nice icon following Nintendo's guidelines for those who appreciate such details.
Kind of like how when applying for a job, you can have the best résumé in the world, but you'll still apply a nice cover if you want to send the message that you really care about the position you're seeking.
In the end, a number of devs have listened and changed their icons, or have pledged to change their icons in the near future. I'm grateful for this. There was some pushback from forum trolls, but it kept the threads bumped and ultimately got the movement enough exposure to create this simple but appreciated change.
One of the absolute best games of 2016. You guys are in for a freaking treat. It's the perfect handheld game.
NoooooooooooooooI'm going to push back against this movement as revenge for asking me to lift and move everything for you.
icon shoulda been
This is the main point. Some folks want form and function in their UI, as in uniformity, and the Nintendo guidelines match that, so it's not like the thought is out of nowhere. And again, it's not about taste, that the icon has the full name is enough, though you would hope devs would do more, ala Steamworld Dig 2. I don't particularly care and have custom steam icons, but I understand their reasoning. My issue it that it becomes lifeless if everyone pulls a Stardew Valley. And the bolded is only going to be a problem if every single anime game were to use an anime girl as their icon. Not only is this very unlikey it's also wrong to assume that every "anime" game looks the same style wise. Let's say Guilty Gear were to do the same exact icon in framing as VOEZ. There is still no possible way that you'd still get them confused.
All I'm saying is a title on background shouldn't be a even considered a good icon. It's merely average.
I also really wish people would stop using anime as a descriptor cause it doesn't a accurately discribe a medium with very different styles.
The home screen is literally just big game icons, unlike any other system, especially when portable.2nd thread ive seen about Switch game icons... never saw this for any past platform.

Yeah I don't get it either. I'm not complaining because I don't care a about icons, but both are really bland. Neither are good 😂are people seriously saying the icon is good just because of the logo?
Question to Indie-SwitchGAF! Should I hold off on downloading Golf Story to get Stardew Valley?
I love that Switch icon reveals are news now :lol
