State of Decay 2 Announced - XB1/PC, 2017, has online

While it’s an honor to be on the big stage at E3 with the big kids today, we wouldn’t have been here without you. To those of you who took a chance on a brand new Xbox Live Arcade game back in the summer of 2013; and those of you who joined our fan community and spent your time sharing your hopes for where the game could go; and those of you who gave us both love and constructive criticism in every other corner of the internet; and those of you who streamed State of Decay for hundreds of hours; and most of all for those of you who have patiently waited out the silence hoping for a big new State of Decay game — this is for you!

First one, PC & console, still is one of my favorite games. This was an amazing surprise; and it looks so good. Day one.

If this is on Win10 store only, I'll be very upset.

Much as I love State of Decay 1, and am looking forward to State of Decay 2, after practically having to rebuy the whole game again for near full price to get my hands on the YOSE edition despite having bought the entire game + DLC's already this game is on my 'When it's cheap list'. If it turns out Windows 10 Store only it moves to 'GOTY + very cheap list'. If I'm still interested by then.

Hoping the coop focus isn't implemented in a way where it feels you're missing out if you're just playing single player. At least it's not a MMO style. Don't need more competitive/griefing zombie games.

Despite being a 360 die hard I switched to PS4 this gen (and haven't looked back) but with the announcement of Scorpio and this I can say without a doubt that I'll be back with Xbox soon. Think I'll finally rock both systems though cause there's too much to lose going Xbox only.

The first game had flaws to be sure and it didn't have much in the way of replayability to me but the concept was fantastic and I really enjoyed my first play through. With a beefier system and some choice elements added in, I'm pretty confident this will turn into the zombie game I've always wanted on console. Plus I'm a sucker for added base building in any game

Amazing! Oh my! I was so hyped when I saw this live!

I can't wait to see more of State of Decay 2! I've been following Undead Labs and State of Decay since before the game was announced and was known as Class 3!

I really hope they

1) Ramp up the survival aspects. It seems like a good number of years have past after the initial outbreak, basic things like food and medical supplies will be hard to come by. Make it so that finding even a few cans of food per house is a good score. Having things like injuries would even be cool, in a real world survival situation any type of injury can turn deadly if it hinders your progress. With multiple characters there should be no fear of making characters more susceptible to major injuries that take them out of commission for days or weeks at a time.

2) Make the base building far more dynamic. No more prebuilt, predetermined locations. Any area should be able to be marked and retrofitted for a home base. Not only that, but as you get more people and map out the area, dynamic lookouts and safe houses should be able to be created for long runs and extending territory.

3) NPC interactions and trading with other towns, as well as fighting different dynamic factions. One of the biggest thing lacking in survival games like this are legit fear driven interactions with other survivors who have guns on you. Not everyone wants a gun fight or even wants to kill, but that doesn't mean that they won't have guns on you as you try and talk everyone down, or they try and talk you down. Some of the best drama in TWD are the tense situations when encountering unknown people for the first time while out on a run, capturing moments like that would pay huge dividends for replayability and role play.

Basically, this game has a real chance of being The Last of Us + Project Zomboid in terms of the mechanics and TPS of TLoU and the zombie interactions and survival aspects of Zomboid.

And that is a match made in heaven.

Sounds like it'll have a shared world element to it:

Dave McCarthy said:
Jez: Oh, Sea of Thieves will have raids? I did see that Kraken come up out of the water…

Dave: Yeah. I don't know if that's the official term for them but it's that concept of shared, cooperative objectives.

State of Decay 2 is going to be another great social experience. You saw the flare fire up there in the trailer? The idea there is that you'll be able to find other players out in the world – that was the hint towards that.

Very excited for this. I'm not the biggest fan of zombie games but I loved the first game so I'm definitely in for more State of Decay! :)

I loved the original SoD - LOVED it. Hopefully co-op is very optional because I prefer it as a single player adventure. It's unfortunate that so many games these days are focusing on co-op.

I hope they make buildings more varied on the inside, the repetitiveness got to me after a while. And maybe a bit more late game content.

Other than that, glad they'll be bringing coop. Wiping out with vehicles in the first one was a blast, now I get to do dumb stuff with my friends. Can't wait.

Loved the first one can't wait for this! Shame that it's only 4 player co-op I was expecting a huge crowd of online players fighting each other for resources and zombies.. Nevertheless day 0

Been waiting for this for a long time. Not sure how I feel about just four players. On the one hand, more players would be nice, but on the other hand, I've played other zombie MMOs in which I fight for resources and it hasn't been that satisfying. In the end, I absolutely loved State of Decay so I'm going to trust the devs with whatever they want to do.

This is powered by UE4 correct? What I'm hoping for most is a performance improvement over the original, which had serious jank at times.

I liked State of Decay and i'm happy that my two most wanted features are coming to the sequel. I really fucking love that it's coop and not open world PvP with lots of people.

The surviving, exploring and having a base/safe house was the best thing about the game.

This is day one for me and my friend. Amazing that we finally can play together instead of one have to watch. More games should have coop. It can make a mediocre game amazing.

Absolutely loved the first game, sunk so much time into it. Hopefully the game isn't designed entirely around co-op and the single player is solid too.

The very last picture looks notoriously of higher quality than the rest. Is it a mock up or just heavily doctored? The debris at the end of the gate makes it look like a picture. Either way, I'm surprised that this thread has so few entries. This is one of my most anticipated titles in the next months.

Coming to Steam is nice, but it is more important to know if there is a non-UWP version planned.

The first game was using CryEngine and I guess they are using UE4 for this now, Undead was experimenting with Stingray for a bit. Given the number of UE4 titles and relationship with Microsoft, they should have the resources to make sure it performs well.
