State of Decay launching in June on XBLA

For some reason I have a feeling that the cool parts of the game have already been shown. I'm expecting a lot of tedium and repetition. Hopefully this irrational fear of mine is proved wrong.

My biggest fear is a lack of depth in the systems they've shown.

Like for example you can grow a garden to help contribute to a base that can sustain itself, but is it basically just "press A to build garden after you get the materials needed" and then that's it? I mean I'm not expecting Harvest freakin Moon here or anything, but I'd like to do a bit more in maintaining the garden and what I can grow instead of just pressing A to build it and then forget it while I work towards the next base feature that I just press A to build.

Yeah, it looks like it aims for breadth more than depth. A lot of open world games have this issue.

I'm there day one.

Been waiting for this game for a while. Looks so awesome. Played it at PAX last year and it was really fun in the brief amount of time I had to play it (10-15 mins). Nothing better than running through a horde of zombies in a car. :)

Very excited for this. Hope it lives up to expectations.

Saw a screenshot yesterday that had a character on a tower or something looking over an area and there was a meter ticking up that said "surveying". That sort of stuff looks really cool.

I assume the idea behind it is that any survivors you pick up along the way tend to the garden, etc.

No survivors = untended garden/wasted resource, I assume.

I'd like to have some form of advanced control over it though. Like choosing what plants to grow out of whatever kinds I have available, or watering them or something like that. Assigning people to do it is kind of the same thing as setting it and forgetting it.

I'd argue that a state of decay has already been on XBLA for a while now.

*rimshot*

I haven't heard of this game...maybe I should check it out?

A someone who is still playing the crap out of spelunky and trials evolution, I disagree

Sweet you got to play?

What were your impressions. Must be good if your still going to be there day one.

It's been on my must buy list for a longtime. Before many were even talking about it.

Nice and about time, too. Still disappointed that co-op didn't pan out for launch, but I'll be doubly so if they never get a chance to patch it in later...

Sounds great,

Once a character dies, he or she is gone forever. No do-overs. You’ll automatically switch to another character in your group, however. If the fallen avatar had any supplies on him, those are lost as well, unless you send another character to retrieve them.

Fantastic.

My only real concern is the missions they talk about in the preview, hopefully they extend beyond fetch quests/find X to open Y quests.

Thought I was done with zombie games. Guess not.

Zombies, Aliens, Robots, and Nazis (except for Germany)

I think the more interesting thing will be the exploration, base building, side character stories.

If they add infamous style clearing an area to be habitable again, that would be awesome

A game with severe consequences, which is a good thing. Ready to get my survival on.

Yep. The video at the link goes into more details about the survivors aspect. Sounds like losing a survivor might mean you lose someone important to base defence, etc.

Sounds pretty great, I just hope there's a lot of mission variety.

Don't really like how they say you can send someone to pick up the supplies, hopefully that was worded wrong and meant you have to do it as you play as someone else. My whole worry with the game is it will not be very deep because you're supposed to order survivors do everything, or press A to ____ as I call it.

You can send them out or play as them. Of course if you don't play as them they might die or just dip out never to return. I'm not sure if you can jump in and play as them after you send them out to do a mission though.

Can't wait.

Microsoft should either pick up this studio, or enter some kind of a 2nd party agreement, and give this studio a decent budget for Class4. Seems like they're capable of great things. Although I kind of wish they weren't making it into an MMO.

Hmm, it could be read a number of ways. I assume you have the option of sending others out on scavenging missions but you can also do the scavenging yourself if you choose to.

You have that option, as seen in videos. They can die though afaik.

Games like this are a good way to get people to buy a $99 360.

Minecraft and this/MMO version of this and some are set for life. :)

I may have to pick this up myself....love the look so far.

This is cool, climb the tower, survey the area and mark things on your map.
edit: day/night cycle, have not seen this in previous builds. nice.

nighttime reminds me of Alan Wake ;) Sry for shit pictures, I need to lower the stream qualtity, twitch hates me.
