If I hated the original Serious Sam games is there the slightest chance I will like the third one?

Nope, it's the exact same formula, but with aiming down sites for some reason. Oh and it takes place in Egypt again so prepare for whole levels that just feel SS1HD assets slapped together.

What did you dislike about it?

Been a long time since I played them, but from memory:

* The enemies were weird and arbitrary. (SS3 looks to be the same)
* Engine felt dated. (SS3 looks better)
* Disliked the design of the main character. (meh, not really a deal breaker)
* Gameplay felt extremely repetitive to me but maybe I didn't play long enough?

The 'fight swarms of enemies' style was interesting for a change of pace but not enough to make me overlook the other flaws. Serious Sam games always felt so random and slapped together to me.

I like cinematic shooters so guess I'm not the target audience. I think Hard Reset is pretty good though.

The Serious Sam games are a basically fps versions of Robotron which is pretty different to slow whack-a-mole CoD style shooters of today.
The enemies are mostly the same as in the previous games with slightly improved AI + a couple of new ones. If you didn't like shooting them in the previous game you probably won't like shooting them now.
If you disliked the goofines of the earlier games then this might be a bit more appealing since it's a bit more serious but still tongue in cheek.

Thanks, that pretty much answers my question. Guess I'll wait until its stupid cheap then.

You didn't just quit after the first level or two did you? Because it starts out slow.

That's what people say about Daikatana ;) A lot of people seem to really like SS3, as I recall there's one guy here who thinks it's the best FPS of the generation. More power to you, it's not my cup of tea.

Perhaps this game does get better, but do I want to waste 3 hours getting to the good bits when I can play Serious Sam HD now? In co-op it's better but the levels are still the same. That awful second level, in the dark with all the spiders and generic marine guys. It was absolutely pitiful. The level where you have to run around switching all the cameras off. Dull. It doesn't pick up in the slightest until the first battle with the massive alien ship thing, and even then it's still nowhere near as good as its predecessor.

Space Marine is a great game. I loved the campaign and the multiplayer. Yeah encountered the slowdown bug too, but it's gone now. Don't think it's a patch, rather something with my configuration. None of my friends encountered it either...

Also it's beautiful at times

Oh man, War in the North is temping for $10. It's steamworks, right? (I assume that is why you listed it.)
Any opinions on it? I love me some ARPGs but hack & slash action games ... not as much. I'm not sure what camp this one falls into.

edit: Impulse says steamworks.
edit: I think I just want to buy something today. Everything sounds interesting :\

So I played Mafia II over the past couple of days and if you can ignore the sanbox aspects of the game then it's pretty damn good, the story is amazingly structured, gun fights and police chase's were ok (pretty similar to gta) but the in-game lighting engine is amazing.

Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Baskervilles is on Steam, not sure why they are charging for it when its free on iOS and even the upgrade to the Collectors Edition on iOS is cheaper than the Steam version.

I was hoping that this was SH6, but it's not. There's no way I'm not getting SH6, though!

PS. I actually own all of the Sherlock games on Steam, haha

Someone has the guide to recover the steam shortcuts?
Same problem. Someone?

I know I wrote this, but maybe it should go on the OP...

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=37038849&postcount=12659

Steam keeps all shortcuts on a file named "shortcuts.vdf", that sits on the 'Steam\userdata\<userid>\config' folder.

Recently, I lost mine as well. That file had 0 bytes. HOWEVER, for some reason I'm not aware of, Steam placed a copy of it on 'Steam\config'. I just copied that version over to 'Steam\userdata\<userid>\config' and my non-steam shortcuts were back after a Steam restart.

now, from time to time, I just backup that file on 'Steam\userdata\<userid>\config'

I don't really remember if it happened exactly like that or if it's the other way around. Anyway, check both folders and, if you're lucky, a valid copy of your 'shortcuts.vdf' will be in one of these folders. Just copy it over to the other folder and restart.

I first read about it on this thread, so maybe they can explain better than I can: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2546782

Maybe Valve should just save that file on the cloud....

I updated steam (and my computer) and now it's chugging like a mother. It freezes up at every click and every letter I type in chat. I have no clue what is happening, it's like my processor is running at tenth strength or something. Chromes fucking up too. So I'm pretty sure it's just my computer. What happened? :(

Edit: After restarting the programs like 5 times, it all seems to be working fine now. Stupid computer.
