STEAM BIG PICTURE MODE (CAPS) - Early september beta

Well more info in the op couldn't hurt. A couple of people in the GTTV thread have already asked for clarifications on some things, including myself. Not everyone has followed BPM info since its announcement.

So what is this? some kind of hardware set top box that streams your PC to your TV? or is it just a TV optimized UI for Steam?

check the link in the OP. It's basically a completely redone interface that favors people who play games with a controller and on a big TV sitting from further away. Nothing hardware related.

You could have at least linked to the big picture mode info on the steampowered website.
That way people that aren't familiar with what big picture mode is have an idea of what to expect.

fair enough, edited that in 5 mins ago

This is now about Salsa making a thread.

#teamsalsa

fuck them haters

I took the liberty of preparing the following:

I think it is time to draw the digital line. Salsa will continue to make threads and I think there is going to be a lot of trolls crying here. Either way when they're created this forum will likely be on fire. So in order to try to put it out some gasoline on this fire I will ask those interested to stand up and be counted.

I feel Salsa's threads are great, likely better than most that will come this year. I certainly feel they are the best threads on GAF. I also believe the press and gamers alike will believe this. This puts me in the "For" camp.

I know there are many who feel strongly in opposite camp. I also would ask you to stand up and say "Against".

When the threads are created and everyone sees them all the speculation will be over. If I am wrong and GAFers in general think the threads are "crap" then I am comfortable with getting tagged "Owned by the GAF".

However, if I am right and it is received well, I would like to see those "Against" to be tagged with "Owned by SalsaShark".

I would like to make a honorary invitation to EvilLore and Duckroll who help fuel the fire on a regular basis – assuming you both would be "Against". In the end though, it is your decision and I want to remind everyone that I have an advantage of actually participating in his her threads.

I invite anyone who seeing someone trolling SalsaShark in other threads to point them here. :D

So it’s time to be stand and be counted:

Glass Rebel - "For"

This logic makes no sense

Salsa knows just as much as Keighley. Thread is acceptable!

Valve really seems to be branching out a lot as of late, BPM bringing steam to the living room and the announcement of an app store. You could say valve is looking at the bigger picture in terms of the direction they're going.

BPM is pretty cool, Greg Coomer at Valve walked me through a full demo of it. Very nice interface and storefront.

You have to tell Gabe not to take it out of beta until the announcement->(public) release waiting period has eclipsed that of Half-Life 2!

So when PS4 is announced can we also bitch when the OP says nothing more than "Early 2014, just announced in the conference!!!!!!!"? Let the man make his thread, it doesn't have to be a dick-sucking PR-styled post.

Well if that's all the information we had on the PS4 then that would be okay.

Another thing, I think I saw a Dual Shock icon on one of the pages. It would be cool if BPM has a bunch of controller software within it. Motion joy, xinput to direct input (and vice versa), pinnacle/xpadder/easy way to make kb/m commands on a gamepad.

I'm going to bring this up again, but what ever happened to the "200+ Steam games getting Hydra support" news from a while ago?

glorious pc gaming

i wish i could go back 2-3 years and punch my former self in the nuts for not moving over to pc gaming sooner

Me too. It takes some learning and effort, but it's worth it without a doubt. Posted this in the other thread, but I don't even own a pc monitor. Partly because I don't want to invest in the current tech, but also because it just looks so amazing on my plasma. Now I just watch tv on a cheap led.
