Steam has broken 30 million concurrently online users for the first time ever

Cracks me up that you don't even see why PC players still use 1080p......

...And at 1080p those games still look better than more or less anything on console.
It always cracks me up when console usrrs use Steam stats and dont have a clue what they are looking at.
'Lol 1080p is still the most use rez on PC lolz', without understanding WHY 1080p is still the most used.

you wish.
1080p is just so low nowadays.
And now. People don't use 1080p because these monitors are 240hz....

Actually nearly all high refresh monitors are 1080p or 1440p. You couldnt even get 4k monitors higher than 60hz until recently (i'm not sure if they are even out yet).
Why do you think all the big name streamers play at 1080p/1440p with medium to low settings on their 3090 powered PC''s?

Just because console gamers cream over 30fps games because that sheet of glass looks shinier, it doesnt mean PC gamers dont have standards.

you are delusional if you think more than few % of the 1080p and 1440p steam chart monitors are hfr.

Well just go on Steam and look at the outrage when a new game launches with a 60fps cap.
A LOT of PC users are on high refresh monitors. Even i have one, although i'm a couch gamer so play on my TV.

I thought platform warring was forbidden here? We got good news about the growth of Steam and you're here being a troll.

Why do you always seem so salty when it comes to PC gaming? What's the deal? You have a decent gaming PC don't you?
Just enjoy what you have a don't waste time and energy trying to understand why some are okay with low fps and settings. As long as the platform is growing it'll improve things for everyone. 👍

Ah, I see. So he's one of those "I have an RTX 4090/13900K in my PC but prefer couch gaming on my console"?

Orignally I just wanted to make a joke post. Nothing to it.

But maybe in reality, I just like to stick it back to pcmr crowd...
It's the most annoying, proud, pondering loud crowd. They feel the need to justify their purchases and like you see above post from DenchDeckard DenchDeckard
"...And at 1080p those games still look better than more or less anything on console."

See I just posted some trolly number and all of sudden there is console attack and disinformation. No DenchDeckard DenchDeckard 1080p pc games do no look better than same console games. It's not 1997 anymore. It's all the same.
Especially recently, the pcmr mentality is seeping into console market and slowly ruining gaming with the toxic rhetoric. fps this, resolution that, consoles are weak blah blah blah.
We have console graphics modes where you don't choose the better mode but mode with lesss sacrifice.
You have pcmr people screaming around that devs cannot do 30fps games anymore... ok then. Gears games, Uncharted quadrlogy, tlous... all pushed fidelity at 30fps and were great games AND THATS WHAT SHOUL MATTER
Any posts praising pc successes are widely one sided... while go into any console game thread and it's full of console bashing.

Oh yeah. I have a 3080 and 3700x pc. I just replayed Crysis remastered 4k100fps with ray tracing and put 80 hours in vampire survivors.
But I also got console and I really like what it's doing for low price. One does not exclude another.

It wasn't.
I didn't had bad intention from the get go. Just some fun and also facts at the same time.
Yes you did and anybody can see that. It was just a discussion about the numbers then you barged in and started going on about the hardware.

don't give rofif rofif the attention he so desperately craves. it drives him up the wall that steam has more active users than psn.

He always trolls PC related threads. At least he doesnt pretend he's a PC only gamer like he used to.

Not sure why the mods let him get away with it.

seems there are 106 mil psn users but no idea how many concurrent.
It's not about PS winning.
It's only about pc. It gets too much leeway for all the times you have to use pcgamingwiki and crazy hardware prices.

just at principle. From my 1997 pc gaming perspective, I am mad what this industry had become. It's at the same time amazing and best it has ever been... and the worst, fake enthusiast milking. Maybe I just miss 90s pc gaming :P
The way devs treat pc gaming
the way hardware vendors milk it
Microsoft milks it... everyone milks and shits on pc gaming and yet the pc gming crowd is the proudest. Why? Because they spend a lot of money on it?
Pc doesn't deserve this attention imo.

I think my takes are the most mild :p
I think pc gaming should just be better and pcmr crowd should stfu and be less annoying.
Comparing to the 500$ boxes should be healthy in the long run. Maybe pc will get less expensive with time as I think it should.
I just think like we are all being made a fools with pc gaming recently.

I assume that just means the steam launcher running in the background of people's PC's.
just goes to show that having it auto-boot with the OS and silently run in the background that more people own a PC
Yeah but for that to happen those people had to install Steam. Easy to think that they did so to use it and not just to leave it running on the background.

Hey rofif rofif , nobody here said anything about pc master race but you. Do you have them living rent free up there? Because it really seems like.

Imagine seething this much over some data. Dude, you embarrass yourself.

As some of you said above, Steam skyrocketed the past few years. I agree with various opinions about the boost due to console shortages and people stuck at home. No doubt it's a combined effort.

Game makers made big profits during the past two years too. Considering just about all of them except Nintendo support PC, they've realized PC game sales are reliable, dont get affected by console shortages and since next gen console sales are still high and selling out the platforms can sell concurrently without bringing down the gaming market.

Oh yea, rofif rofif , I remember now, the argument is that he's always using Pcgamingwiki somehow to fix games LOL

Nobody can use a PC for gaming unless he learns hex and goes deep into .xml files. Only this usual stereotype guy can really game on PC

I mean no but yes.
devs always omit something and you end up having to at least tweak something for optimal experience. Even the tiniest thing.
Like Crysis remastered. It runs like crap because they pointlessly made Shadows, vegetation and Objects settings cpu heavy... why.
So I had to research and try to see what settings do I need to lower to get stable 60+fps on a 3080 and 3700x.
Maybe if they had better menu, which shows the impact of settings... not just "shadows low, medium, high"... resolution? distance of shadows? what is it.
All of this needs to be better and I am annoyed because it finds its way into console gaming slowly with badly described modes, so you need to watch DF video

Steam Deck actually is making good progress to fix stuff like that

Yeah I know I am an ass recently.
but srsly.. Crysis remastered is kinda broken all over. had to tweak
Resident Evil 2 Rt crashes and has memory leaks
Final fantasy XV lags crazy if you have nvidia shadowlibs enabled
Only 3 examples I played last week and you can just watch DF video or go to pcgamingwiki t save yourself time finding yourself which setting is responsible!

pcgamingwiki and drivers are not a problem.....
Don't you think the pc gaming should be less ass considering how much it costs?
Steam deck fixes many of this issues. Maybe microsoft should take a look...

You guys ever wonder about the future in which Gaben dies or retires? I firmly believe he's the one keeping Steam from becoming shit in the face of the current games industry.

My laptop isn't meant for high spec games, but it doesn't matter. I've been buying up older Steam and GOG games for almost two years (when I first started getting back into PC gaming in late 2020/early 2021) and I have never had to tweak or self-fix any game issue ever. It's all seamlessly worked 100% even for old ass DOS games I played in 1990.

Even when I played PC gaming on my Pentium with Windows 98 in early 2000s playing Unreal, Diablo II etc... I never had issues getting the games to work. The only time I remember lots of driver issues was the DOS days where drivers where a sketchy jotstick could eat up 10% of the cpu and the mid 90s when Windows 95 was new and getting games to work could be a hassle (no internet too so you had to figure it out or hope for a mailed patch or a patch in a demo disc from a game mag).

The only time something doesn't work on my laptop isnt even gaming related. When Windows 10 auto-updates some reason it may mess up recognizing my printer in my home office, so I have to fiddle with manually removing/adding printer and then it works again.

Do Gabe own Steam? Is he forced to sell Steam/Valve if he is to retire some day?

I don't understand why it bother you so much how people play their games. People can prefer to play their games on a toaster for all I care. Just don't force me to do it as well. Personally I love having choices, and I'm glad if I can set everything to Ultra and I'll upgrade before I set things to Mid. But if people are fine using their old 780ti and set things to Low then cool, it just show the strength of the platform. It's for everyone. You don't have to buy a Tesla, you can buy a Skoda too, or even a used old Saab. You get me? 🙃

And if you don't like options then just use the recommended presets. Menus are for people who like choices. Not 100% sure but I don't think you have to go into a single menu, on any platform. There is usually a start or new game button to hit at the title screen.

As for myself, I play on all platforms, trying to be as unbiased as I can, but I definitely prefer PC at the moment, could be because I stumbled into the 4090 hype. And I still enjoy gaming on my consoles too. And Steam Deck. Even mobile sometimes. As you say, one thing don't have to exclude another. I just like games! 👍

Too much money to give up.

The basic functionality of the platform has evolved over time but gradually. They figured out the important shit early on.

When you look at the competition, EA caved and integrated into Steam, Ubisoft is garbage and Epic has to give away free games just to get attention lmao
