Steam on XBOX ONE: Could it happen?

No? What the heck? No. why would Valve cripple the sales of their hardware on purpose? Come on.

You'll see Microsoft buying Valve the same day you see Apple buying Nintendo.

Never.

No. it will never happen.

Even if future Xboxes are a cost effective win10 device Ms will make sure to lock the devices to the win store as the only means to get apps and games.

Might happen if their store/UWP completely fails. As of right now, nope.

Edit: Completely took this the wrong path, talking about consoles!.....then for sure that's a negative but who knows.

I think we might see the Xbox One allow SteamLink capabilities, streaming games from your PC to your TV via the console instead of needing a SteamLink dongle thing.

But beyond that it's doubtful.

When they talk about unifying it, it's not on the consumer end. You're not going to buy an Xbox One PC Edition and magically be able to play all PC games you own on it. Steam, Uplay and the rest aren't going to see the light of day if they did that.

The best case scenario would be getting the console exclusives coming to PC too through their store. That's the closest you'd get to Steam.

Ah, I see. But then why the supposed iterations on XBOX ONE hardware?

Steam is not a Universal Windows App, which as you've been told by Microsoft, is the future. Universal windows apps have no drawbacks and allow you to play awesome content like Fable Legends Age of Empires: Castle Siege on a wide variety of devices like the popular Windows Phone 10, Xbox One, Microsoft Surface, and Windows 10 PC devices. Over millions of monthly active users use Universal Windows Apps!
I too was very interested in getting involved with Microsoft Windows 10 Universal Windows App development for Windows Phone 10, Xbox One, Microsoft Surface, and Windows 10 PCs. Here's a helpful search I did on Bing, the most popular search engine in TV programs 8 years in a row, about how to get involved.

I love you ! :D

Even if Valve them selves never makes a UWA game, supporting the application type would likely be the best move to insure the Steam Platform is flexible for businesses. I'm sure a number of publishers will only port their console games to the UWA platform, and I'd assume Valve would like to keep their position as THE place for PC games.

Publishers haven't had issues with Win32 for years, why would that change? What would be the benefit of switching over to UWA?

Isn't the surface a PC?

Absolutely.

Once UWA fail, MS will embrace Steam due to their reactionary nature this gen.

MS rarely has long-term vision or success with their initiatives outside of Windows/Office/Servers.

Alright - so the consensus is pretty much that this is not going to happen.

Then what is MS going to do with the XBONE to turn it around in light of the synergy between Windows 10 and Xbox?

You must have missed out on the Microsoft UWP argument these past couple weeks.

There is no way in hell or God's green Earth that Steam would be on Xbone.

There is a slim-to-none chance on PS4.

Valve has no interest in consoles except the SteamBox.

Adios.

You forgot Solitaire.

How doesn't it work on PC?

I've had games that I downloaded from Steam not work and basically crash the Steam client. This is even after I updated the client, reinstall the client, and I tested this on Windows 7, 8 and 10.

There are some games (like Saints Row 2 and Sacred II) that just wouldn't work for me (unfortunately I got those pre-Steam refund days).

YMMV of course and I may have exaggerated a bit.

Some bad luck there. Saints Row 2 is up there on the very, very short list of all-time worst PC ports. Anything could go wrong when that gets involved.

I promise.

PR 101: Never miss an opportunity to say the name of as many of (or all) your products in a single sentence, ever. If the opportunity presents itself, mention future products too.

A helpful example from <insert show name here>:

John: Hey Steve, how's it going?
Steve: Great! I was just using the Microsoft Store on my Windows 10 enabled Lumia phone and the app I just purchased will work across my Windows 10 PC, Microsoft Surface, and Xbox One.
John *nodding in approval*: Wow, that really is something. Will it work on Hololense when it releases?
Steve *exclaiming while pointing device towards camera*: Absolutely!
John *now nodding aggressively in approval and smiling into camera*: Fantastic!

OT: Doubt it, they are competing storefronts. It would be like giving the competition (Valve) money.

MS is trying to kill Steam on Windows why would they want it on the hardware that they have to use their own money to make?
