Steam people, recomend me some indie games please

Binding of Isaac is super fun and amazingly good value, and is as of yet unavailable on platforms other than PC. The art style doesn't really gel with me much so I was hesitant to get it at first, but when I got it, damn. So good.

This. The game has tremendous value as well. I got every achievement, total play time was 150 hours for a $5 dollar game. Had a ton of fun for every one of those hours as well, didn't feel like a grind at all.

Hey Steam peeps.

I love XBLA and PSN games and indie games but I'm not familiar with what is good on Steam that is only on Steam

please recommend me some Indie games :)

I am aging and I am losing my appetite for retail games. I have taken a liking to smaller game. Maybe it's my nostalgic old schoolness that is rejecting 2 hours tutorials or 10 minute cut-scenes.

Hey OP, post your Steam library so we can see what games you already have yeah?

I have some I could recommend if I know what you've already got.

All that aside, The Swapper is one I recently completed and was really fantastic. It was challenging and the story was incredibly interesting.

Do you want a hard game? They Bleed Pixels is one of the best platformers ever made.

Hotline Miami if you haven't played it.

Stealth Bastard Deluxe

amnesia: the dark descent
blackwell deception
frozen synapse
kentucky route zero
lone survivor
papers, please
richard & alice
stanley parable
superbrothers
to the moon,
unity of command

Not a Steam exclusive, but Hotline Miami plays way better with a mouse and keyboard. Steam Spelunky is the definitive version with the daily challenges. Otherwise, Gone Home, SpaceChem, Frozen Synapse, Thirty Flights of Loving and Papers, Please are all stunning.

For the love of god,

Botanicula
Machinarium
Papo & Yo
To The Moon
The Stanley Parable
Gunpoint
Hotline Miami

These are good places to start.

Here are some of my favourites. I'm not a connoisseur of indie games, so I'm likely missing some great ones and my write ups aren't the best, but I didn't want to just dump a load of names. One of the great ones I'm probably missing, is The Stanley Parable, which I've only just purchased.

Dustforce

If you like beating your own records, check this one. It's a platformer, with an emphasis on momentum and learning the subtleties of the game. It also has probably one of my favourite game soundtracks ever, which I listen to all the time. I really love this game.

Rogue Legacy

A "Rogue Light" according to developers. It's an addictive game, which leaves you always wanting to go one more life and it has a good sense of humour.

They Bleed Pixels
tbpe7kix.jpg

An often overlooked platformer, with a nice style, fantastic music and some interesting mechanics. It's hard as hell, but it's really good.

Lone Survivor

A great Silent Hill game, which does a great deal, with very little. If you have any interest in Survival Horror, I couldn't recommend it any more and it was recently upgraded to the Director's Cut.

FTL

There's no shortage of people ready to explain why this one's so good. I'll just say it's addictive, the music is godly, it'll make you feel like the captain of a space ship and it's addictive as hell.

Hotline Miami

A brutal top down action game, dripping in style, which also requires you to come up with interesting strategies. The music is godly. I've completed it on the PC, PS3 and Vita and it's one of my favourites from last year.

Others

Cave Story+
The Binding of Isaac
Volgarr The Viking
Shatter

I didn't see Orcs Must Die recommended but I really liked it. Get the first if you want single player, the second if you want co-op.

Oh. No games from XBLA. My bad. I'll recommend Recettear then.

Also, ignore any reviews of Fortune Summoner that are negative in any way. Fortune Summoners is a fantastic Japanese RPG and I can't believe anyone out there doesn't see it for the near masterpiece it is. The only problem with Fortune Summoners is that it is a bit short and the story is incomplete. Which isn't bad considering it is indeed such a small project. The 2D, pixel art is gorgeous. The characters are fun. The combat is great and perfect for anyone who prefers 2D action combat to turn based combat. Despite not being a turn based game, battles are very strategic, and the AI is extremely competent. The enemies are even harshly challenging in the higher difficulties. People who like challenge in RPG games, should definitely try Fortune Summoners. As Fortune Summoners is very challenging.

And along with having solid gameplay. And implementing 2D action platforming gameplay which more Japanese RPGs ought to do. The game is amazing charming and heartwarming. More games ought to be as heartwarming and cute as Fortune Summoners. While also retaining polished gameplay.

I particularly recommend Fortune Summoners to people who think that many Japanese RPG conventions and traditions are outdated. Fortune Summoners is not a grindy game at all. In fact, much like Chrono Cross, it limits you to how much you can grind and level up, forcing you to battle with skill rather than the level and statistics of your character. And anyone who doesn't like turn based combat and would rather have things like 2D platforming or fighting-game-esque action combat should definitely look into this game. Not only does Fortune Summoners require adept platforming to beat the game, but also strategic and skillful combat. Even in the lowest difficulties, enemy AI is challenging.
This, this, this and this! Serious bro fist to you. Fortune Summoners is my favorite 2D platformer in a long time. I love this game. People will tell you the controls are bad, but I just never found this to be the case. In fact, it has a more detailed combat system than most similar games. It's a lot of fun, has a good 25+ hours of gameplay and the graphics are gorgeous. I swore if I ever become wealthy, I'd throw tons of money at MEL of Lizsoft to make a sequel.

Super Meatboy and Hotline Miami (which I only got recently and am currently about 25% through but has already made a hell of an impression) are probably my favorite indies.

* Path Of Exile - great ARPG with huge amounts of depth [free]
* FTL - rouge-like elements applied to a starship commend style game
* Risk of Rain (not actually played this, but it looks awesome and is now on my christmas list)
* Sword of the Stars: The Pit - a turn based scifi rogue-like (closer to rogue than FTL)
* Realm of the Mad God - sort of an MMO shooter, but hard to describe [free]
* Terraria - build stuff in a kind of 2d platform version of minecraft

No recommendations for botanicula?

Probably one of the most delightful games I have ever played.

Also dustforce is quality platforming. One of the best out there.
