Steam Winter Sale 2021

None of the 30 or so games on my wishlist are discounted by very much. Pretty sad sale, which I guess I should be used to by now. I keep hoping for the sales of old where you could buy 6 games for $20. I can barely buy a single game for that now. Digital games now hold their full retail price for years if not forever and if you are lucky you can get them for 50% off during a sale. While I wait for games to get to under $10, I am likely to get it for free on Epic. I guess Steam does not feel threatened by all of the alternative platforms out there, because they are not doing anything different. Between getting games for free on Epic or getting access to a ton of games for $10 a month on GamePass, I am finding myself not using Steam nearly as much as I used to.

You know the discounts available during the sales are up to the game publishers right?

I've heard great things and Mrs Voyage has been asking for a fun co-op game so this is getting purchased as well. Thanks for the reminder!
Its on sale on PSN also, got my kids to start ... they were loving it until they got to the first boss... hated it haha

Me and my wife will play it instead

I finally pulled the trigger and bought the entire Pinball FX3 collection for $112. It's time I finished modding my Atgames Legends Pinball table.

I picked up all the IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles & campaigns, along with Dirt 2.0.

Gotta feed the beast!

As usual I stocked up during Haloween and Thanksgiving sales.

I did get Terminator Resistance as a Chirstmas gift for a friend.

I'll take a look in a bit, see if there is anything that I want in preparation for Steam Deck. Titanfall 2 looks like it may be worth having in my Steam collection for that price, seems most people can run it fine on Proton and it is one of my fav FPS games of the past decade.

Question for you Steam vets…I'm new to Steam and PC gaming in general. I was checking the Winter Sale and I've found a few games so far…but is there an easier way to search the sale in list form, like not by category? I just want to look at all the games on sale, not by genre. Do I just click on "Specials" and they will just be mixed in, or is there a super secret mystery way to list just Winter Sale games? Lol

Steam has added so many games over the years (many of them which should stay invisible). It is hard to browse even using third party sites, but third party sites will at least allow you to browse by discount. I find the steam tags system to be bad for search, as half of them are ones which were added by the community for a cheap gag. The best solution I have is to add whatever games you are interested in to your wishlist over the year and then sort your wish list by discount.

I'm a bargain bin shopper mostly.. These are what's in my cart right now:

Not 100% sure about the last three.

Guns Gore and Cannoli is tremendous brainless fun. Keep and eye (or listen) for the drunken leprechaun zombies :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Hellblade is amazing, I started playing it a little over a week ago, took a while but when it clicked it certainly did so. You really, REALLY feel for Senua. It wouldn't be too unfair to call it a walking sim though not to the same extent as Death Stranding . A second playthrough is much more brief and enjoyable without the aimless wandering and combat is especially stylish after familiarising yourself with it. Its all about the story though.

Fantastic game. And looks beautiful.

Meanwhile in reality...
That wasn't my point. The game still goes for full retail of $60. It is only $30 after 50% off. You used to be able to rely on a game going down in price to $20 or $30 retail after a year or two, then during a sale, you may have seen it for 50% to 90% off. So you could grab a one or two year old game for less than $20 easily. Village is not a year old yet, so $30 is pretty good. Some games are "new" to Steam, like Days Gone. I already have the game on PS4 and will grab it once it is cheap. In my mind, Days Gone is over 2 years old and selling for $50 full retain on Steam. That seems high to me. It is currently $30 on sale for a 2.5 year old game.

I did get a Steam gift card and am struggling to pick what I want. The games I want to play are not discounted by much and the games with steep discounts I am not really interested in at the moment. Such a hard life. Poor me. I am looking at Guardians of the Galaxy, Chernobylite and Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2. Was hoping they would be cheaper. In the end I will likely buy at least one of them.

All I wanted for Christmas (because I felt nostalgic for an RTS space game).

Just finished downloading, gonna give it a run soon!

Lmao I fucking forgot how goddamn hard this game can be.

What the hell dude, how am I supposed to attack an entire fleet of interceptors and frigate thats protecting the only source of resource with my fleet that gets shot down within minutes and then expected to rebuild the fleet with zero resources?

By playing too much and obsessing over every detail until I ge it right I assume 😂

The secret in Homeworld is to abuse the salvage corvettes. But you need to discover this early on the campaign or you will suffer later.

And also don't forget...

You can get this for $1.79 or something on GOG if you use the code Mandalore gives at the end of his review. I mean this thing is worth it at full price imo.

Lenna's Inception looks great.

Will have to pick up Gibbous - A Cthulhu Adventure at some point. Seems like a good Point n' Click title. The thing is i still have some adventures to finish in my catalogue.
Edit: S Sophist check out Near-Mage a new game from the Gibbous devs

I guess that'll do it this sale. I'm always looking for deep cuts, and I'm really excited about Gedonia. I'd never heard of it, but it seems to be getting great support/development and brings a lot of rpg depth...with a small budget. But I'm forgiving and always interested in finding hidden gems. I already own Dragon Age and DS2 physical, but they were cheap enough to impulse add on Steam. I haven't played OOTP since '18, but I put about 900 hours into that one, and '22 was 75% off, so I had to bite. Pretty good deal for about $25 for the nine games imho. Good sale.

You can try this site: Steamdb.

That could be something to grab also. But from what I remember on PS4, it was quite difficult isn't it? SW Squadrons could be another VR choice. My daugther got Planet Zoo this morning, she seems to like it a lot!
I believe there are difficulty levels or some mechanics you can outright ignore to make the game easier. I forget which.
