Step aside 1080ti... Meet TITAN Xp!

If Nvidia isn't classifying this as a gaming card, how does it compare to the current Quadro line? Those are in the $5k range if I'm not mistaken.

I recall a video of Linus Tech tips comparing the 5K Quadro card to the previous pascal titan X, and he had a hard time finding software where the difference in performance was noticeable. He concluded that it was a matter of really needing those 24GB of VRAM. I think of it in terms of it being a truck, the added feature is that you put bigger things inside, but it isn't going to go faster in the speedway. Faster in the end because of fewer trips, but not something you'll notice if you are not working with things that would require more trips if you didn't have the space.

Nope, it's actually a new card, lol

Once again the community has to call the product something else so it can actually be distinguished.

Just give up and start calling them all the NVIDIA Video Card (tm) and let the community take care of the branding for you.

You did see that I acknowledged that it's a new card, right? I knew that. Hence the "10% more performance for $500 more" comment. I was just confused about the name.

Titan XPP it is.

Damn how were you able to find a buyer for the old txp for that much.

For a while they were going above the original MSRP used because it looked like they were discontinued. Turns out Nvidia was just getting the new ones ready

Also sold both of my Titan X Maxwells after the last announcement for $850 each so I guess they hold their values.

Software as in non-gaming software? Or rendering software?

So $400 gpus are lower mid range now? I need to sell a body part to afford my next upgrade at this point.

I just got a 1080 for $420, and it's at least on the chart comparing it to to the Titan Xp, so I'd say no. Lower mid range is probably $150 to $200ish, you can still get great 1080p performance out of those GPUs.

I'm gonna call it Titan XP2 if that's alright. Because that's basically what it is.

But geez, imagine having shelled out for the Titan X Pascal last year.

Did they name this in contempt of everyone who felt the need to differentiate the Titan X of last year to its predecessors?

I feel like Nvidia is just trolling at this point. Release a Titan X, OK, that's fine. Release another Titan X, so people have to now start calling them Titan XM and Titan XP to tell them apart. Nvidia releases a different but officially named Titan Xp.

I like think they're all reading the internet today and laughing among themselves.

Now Nvidia is trolling their fans.

Announce the Titan X across two revisions forcing your fans give the second one the name Titan XP because it's the pascal version.

Now you announce the 2nd version as Titan XP.

Your move fans.
Titan Vista

Edit: Way late lol

I kind of want to but this Titan and sell the old XP. Maybe I can probably let it gorgeous for 600.

I also wonder if the water block for the one I have now will fit this one.

BUT I think I'll wait for the Volta Ti. It will probably be 50% faster than this.

Ah, you were ahead of me then. I was mixed up about both.

Yeah, didn't get much mileage out of this one. 8 months.

If you that kinda money left for a GPU you probably don't give a fuck and buy this one as well. I mean that's the whole point of the Titan line. Except of course work/professional usage.

Oh, so that's why there were very obvious cuts to the 1080 Ti.

Although, frankly, the cuts were so small and the price difference between this and the 1080Ti is so large, that there's zero point for buying this Titan for gaming. Well, outside of going "look at how much I spent on my PC".

"not a gaming card" is sooooo duuuuuumb you only could say that of the very first original Titan and Titan Black which supported high performance FP64 after that Titans became de facto gaming cards.
Actually, both Titan Xs and this Titan XP are targeted mostly on the deep learning (inferencing) markets.

Ok, now I need to make adjustments to my power scaling from the Scorpio thread:

X1: Apollo Creed
PS4: Clubber Lang
Pro: Ivan Drago
Scorpio: Rocky Balboa
Titan Xp: Son Goku

Ha, I wouldn't count on it

Not to get into too much fanboy bait stuff, but it would have to be really. If PS5 was 1.8-2.5x Scorpio's power (i.e. less than this card) that would be a problem I reckon. That may push the time frame for PS5 out further than 2020, but when it does launch it would have to offer a major upgrade over PS4 Pro and Scorpio to feel "generational".

This isn't even on the front page of nvidia.com. No announcement at a conference, no pre-release hype, nothing.

Yeah, I actually agree with your original assertion. Scorpio seems to be about on-par with the 980 Ti from a power standpoint . I don't think it's crazy to think that new consoles will be at 1080 Ti / Titan Xp levels 3-4 years from now.

It wouldn't be crazy at all, it's a realistic expectation to be honest. Unless the design is heavily power and thermal constrained and the PS5 manifests it's self as a hybrid of a home console and a handheld.

In any case, I still stand by my original assertion.

I was thinking along the same lines, as I mentioned before this kind of power would be somewhere in the mid-range GPU segment by 2020. A Titan X Pascal is somewhere around 2.5-3X the PS4 Pro's GPU and 5-6x the PS4's. Honestly, having a next generation console release 6+ years later with a GPU less powerful than this would be incredibly underwhelming.

I do wonder how long this console generation will last to enable the next generation of consoles to have a "major upgrade" over the PS4 Pro and Scorpio, we may see a generation as long as the PS3 and 360 gen, or even longer thanks to the mid generation refresh.

I don't think I'll ever touch another Titan card ever again. And I suggest people who need a bullshit "deep learning" card stick with the Ti version of whatever their next architecture line is.

Interesting fact - these no longer have the Geforce GTX green LED on the side:

edit: I was wrong... the picture was a fake.

Probably to save money.

I'm actually talking to customer support right now and people don't have a clue as to what is going on. All I'm trying to figure out is if the shroud mounts are the same as the original TITAN X (Pascal) and whether or not an Titan X (pascal) Waterblock will fit on the Titan Xp.

Horrible customer service for a premium product.

It's a minor refresh of the card launched last August. There's like nothing to hype or even say.

Probably to save money.

Save money by producing a unique cooler which is different to those used on 1080Ti?

The card's name is actually "Nvidia Titan Xp". It's not a GeForce or a GTX, so them using that old cooler with GeForce GTX branding was always a bit strange.

I wish they had updated the silver text on the end of the card to say "Titan Xp" though.
Has anyone seen any reviews or benches?
Also, the way things are going I can't help but wonder if next month Nvidia will release a Ti with all cores enabled, like a 1080 Tip or something.

Yes. The only thing unique about this cooler is that it's missing the light up logo and maybe mounting placement and they changed the color. It's not like they had to go back to the drawing board for it. Money saved.

I really don't care since I'd take off the piece of crap shroud and slap a water block on it anyways.

I was thinking about having one shipped here by tomorrow morning, but customer support can't answer my question about the shroud/PCB mounting points.

This seems worse than when Sony released the PSX (PS2) after years of everyone referring to PS1 consoles/games as 'PSX.' At least that was a niche, region-specific, collectible that was prone to hardware failure (warranting no need to actually refer to it by name 99% of the time). "Titan X" was already bad enough.

Depends how long the PS4 gen lasts. Its taken 3 years to get something almost as powerful as a gtx 980 to get put into a console. One would think it'll be 3 more until something as powerful as a gtx 1080 makes it way in there, which isn't even remotely close to a Titan xp.
