Of course. So is he gonna drop the character or what
I wanna know how people will react to actual Stephen Colbert and not the "Stephen Colbert" he portrayed for so many years.
I think there will be a large initial backlash. People will think CBS made him change or something.
So will Jon Stewart get an hour on CC?
Hah, cool. Never seen that before. Here's a video of him out of character talking to John Kerry in the Colbert backstage

Wow. What the hell.
Colbert report is gone in 8 months regardless it seems? That sucks! I just started watching again
CBS does have Ferguson though. Aside from curbing the F-bombs a bit I don't much problems for Colbert.
#cancelcolbert worked!!!
If CBS wants that key demo, they'll let Colbert do whatever the fuck he wants to do.
oh god all of the "happy they finally hired a middle aged white guy" jokes are already exhausting and it's only been like an hour.
I can't believe that anyone would think even for a second that he wouldn't drop the character. I know, you love the character, we all do, but there's no way in the world that would carry over to the Late Show as the freakin' host.
I hope he does something truly epic to write the character off of Colbert Report though. Maybe not kill him off, let him maybe make appearances on Late Show, something like that. Or heck, kill him off in an amazing way if he'll be done with it for good. Whatever he does, it should be fantastic.
boring choice. I'm not happy
not that it matters. I haven't watched any late night talk shows in years
Fergie is on at a late enough hour to have that breathing room. The whole "I hate this job and Cbs ain't paying me shit for it and for some reason still have me on air" doesn't work with the early time slotIn many ways it's a miracle that CBS lets Ferguson basically do what he wants. Really gives me faith that they won't constrain Colbert too much.

I doubt the persona he'll craft for Late Night on CBS will be all that different from his current show, just minus the deliberate political bent and conservative parody. Colbert Report isn't end-to-end political satire all the time anyway; there are plenty of segments in his show that don't really rely on that so they offer decent insight of what to expect from him, I'd think. Anyone who regularly watched the Colbert Report probably isn't going to be too surprised by how he handles Late Night. IMO.I wanna know how people will react to actual Stephen Colbert and not the "Stephen Colbert" he portrayed for so many years.

Whoa, that is quite a shakeup. I love Colbert and it will be great to see what he does with an hour long program. I wonder what will happen to Colbert's CC slot. I'd guess John Oliver, but I believe he's getting a show on HBO.
Makes you uncomfortable?

John Stewart am cry.
So I wonder who could take over for Colbert on the Comedy Central?
This is terrible news. I will miss The Colbert Report when it goes in 2015. I will have to check it out when he makes the switch to The Late Show. As others have said I hope they give The Daily Show an hour now. As I always thought it felt too cramped with just the 22 minutes or what ever it has now.

His annual salary is $25 million and has a net worth of $80 million. I'm sure he'll be fine.
WSJ said:CBS said in a news release that it had signed a five-year agreement with Mr. Colbert to take over its flagship show when Mr. Letterman retires next year.
Mr. Colbert, 49 years old, will retire the character he plays on his Comedy Central show—a sendup of Republican talk-show hosts—and will be himself as the host of the CBS show, the company said.
Further details, such as the show's producers and location, will be announced at a later date.

calling out late night for a lack of diversity is more than okay, it's just always boring to see a joke run into the ground. it's probably no different than any other entertainment news story, but normally I never bother following the reactions as they're going on.
