after seeing trainwreck, I gotta agree with having John Cena be Cable. hes got the looks, the size, and can fit in well with comedic actors.
Him as Quadritch was basically Cable (but evil).

Just make him part CGI, they did it already with pre serum Chris Evans.

Ummm...Deadpool movie gets made thanks to a video leak that went viral throughout social medias and it's now a huge hit.

I generally hate fan casting because they just find someone who looked sorta like the character in one film, and run with that. But this might be one instance where I'd be cool with the internet getting their way. Everything I've seen Lang in is basically the older badass. Avatar, Salem, etc. So this character is definitely in his wheelhouse.
Cable has a convoluted origin, but if you're introducing him in Cable & Deadpool, you can play that up for humor. Have Deadpool text or daydream anytime Cable explains his origin.
The age thing, I wouldn't be super concerned. We'll probably have a Deadpool sequel in 2 years unless Reynolds is busy. It's slightly problematic going forward, but Lang seems excited so I'm crossing my fingers for him.

I doubt they're looking to do a whole franchise around Cable. Get Lang for a couple movies then part ways. He'd kill it. His personality and energy is perfect for it.
People get way too hung up on physical characteristics when casting. It's more about enthusiasm for the part and screen presence. If they can embody the character then you won't even care how tall they are.

Dude's too old and too small, he looks frail. Hire a younger actor and age them through make up. Cable never really looked old anyways besides the white hair.
Especially since Cable will be part CGI anyway.
The new actor for Colossus was a big guy but they used CG to make him even bigger and taller.
the latest fantastic 4 had a great cast though. It was everything else that didn't work

Yeah the cool thing about movies is that they're adaptations, not direct sequels. The audience needs to know as much about Cable as comic book readers did in 1990. Nothing.
People have already accepted a 6 footer Wolverine in Jackman, and they don't even bat an eye to the fact that Ben Affleck towers over Henry Cavill.
And keep forgetting that Cable will need tons of CG anyway.
Also you need some legit acting chops to make this work.
