Well, Twatlight was trash so I am not surprised if it doesn't take her long to "re-imagined" it.

we've gone full evangelion

What an insult to Evangelion.

Doesn't this change a pretty large portion of the end-plot? I mean, one of the big plot points of the book is that Bella almost dies giving birth and is turned in order to save her life.

MALE PREGNANCY FTW!!! tumblr and AO3 fangirls will be pleased.

I mean, I hope the story is different instead of literally just gender swapping. Will Jacob be Jacqueline? In any case, brilliant idea as it'll still sell.

Isn't Bella getting pregnant a big plot point? Should be fun to see how she tackles that.

Personally I have no issue with this. Meyer made one hell of a gold mine for herself, might as well mine the shit out of it.

So, from shitty fanfiction it came, so shall it return.

Can't really see this getting that much attention, people are too busy with John Green and the various other fanfictions-turned-books that are around now.

Lot of haters in here. Nothing's stopping any of us from making something that connects with the youth and gets us rich.

Right place right time exists, there are many... many... vastly more talented writers struggling in anonymity. I don't hate Meyer for her success, but I kind of dislike her for this specific idea. It's intellectually vapid.

It's been known to happen. Ever played Mass Effect 3: Citadel? ;P

Are you in any way impugning the Citadel DLC? Because if so I will fight you.

OT: God help me, but I will probably read this. The first Twilight book holds an odd place in my heart.

I mean... Is it? Sure, it'll be bad, but can a plot or premise be intellectualy vapid just on it's own?
I feel like a good artist could definitely do something interesting by deconstructing the problematic gender politics of their own work in a similar way.

Probably.

I'd be down for the concept, just not the story or this writer.

ive re-imagined this drek as not existing a bunch of times, where is my billion dollars :(

Guess she is struggling come up with a new book if all she has come up with is gender switch.
That was my immediate thought as well. Some writers block happening and she's trying to keep herself relevant. I don't understand how she came to the notion of a remake of twilight with the genders swapped.

So a fanfiction of her fanfiction, got it.

Why do people keep quoting that Twilight is fan-fiction. The reason people talk about Twilight and fan-fiction is because 50 Shades is fan-fiction of Twilight...it was an original successful idea. She is now milking her audience like every other industry.

Because people use the term massively inappropriately.

Fanfiction just means....fiction produced by a fan. I think it's reasonable to assume that most writers like what they write. George RR Martin is probably a huge fan of A Song of Ice and Fire, for example. Steven Moffat produces Doctor Who fiction because he is a fan of it.

It's just become incorrectly synchronized with amateur writers, who find it easy to write unofficial work of series they are fans of. Since they're amateur, they often have simplistic ideas that they work with, such as what Meyer is proposing here, retelling the story via gender swap. In actuality, this isn't any different from what many writers do. They often write a whole story, think "Hey, what if the boys were girls and the girls were boys" and rewrite it to see if that works better. It's just part of the writing process in general.

I don't think it's bad what Meyer is doing here, it's just that I see little point in this being a twilight reimagining vs a story of whole new characters. Why constrain yourself to the plot of Twilight while keeping the core ideas of it. And yes, it is most definitely fanfiction, as much as anything is.
