Strawberries are awesome but a lot of the ones available at the supermarket are shitty. Strawberries grown by factory farms are hybrids that emphasize size. But bigger fruit usually just have a lot more water in them which dilutes the sweetness.

If you can make a trip out the California, head out into the valley, stop at a roadside stand and buy one of those giant packs of fresh picked strawberries for a dollar. That's what good strawberries are supposed to taste like.

It's a trick. Look, I live in California and I'll be the first to tell you that strawberries are bullshit. Even if you eat a couple of delicious ones, you'll have a stomach ache in a few hours because of the seeds. That negates any deliciousness in my book.

Probably depends on what area you live in, but I can find good strawberries in the grocery store from big agriculture driscoli etc, when they are in season. Early or out of season strawberries suck and aren't worth the money.

I feel the same way about apples. I love braeburn apples, but only if they taste perfect. (sweet and tart, very crunchy) Get them when they're not at their peak and I'd rather just not eat them at all. (a bit mushy)

Same goes for peaches. In season they are delicious, in the winter time they have imported peaches from Chile and everytime I get them, they suck.

You obviously don't live near strawberry fields. The one's straight from the field are usually large and taste so damn good. Store bought ones are shipped under-ripe that they can't even compare. That's likely what you are eating.

I'm with the OP. I've yet to find a strawberry that tastes really good without having to add sugar or whipped cream, but I really like strawberry flavored stuff. Besides, I feel really sick for a couple minutes after eating some. It's a really weird thing, it comes and goes really fast, and only happens when I eat strawberries. Maybe I'm allergic or something.
