Street Fighter & Friends 2017 Swimsuit Special announced

Why do you consider artists to be less because they draw porn?

Judging by the quality of Ecchi-Max's work on that cover and on their own blog I have zero qualms condemning the overall body of their work generally shit. Maybe next time I'll be more precise with my language. "They literally hired a fucking terrible porn artist for their cover art, and an awful cheesecake artist for another cover variant. They should have known better. At least they commissioned one person who can draw human anatomy without forgetting there's a skeleton in there, somewhere. "

Heard back from the publishing director. There will be a few guys in this year's edition, but it will be predominantly female pin-ups, like last year.

Haggar will be getting his own piece though, and it looks like Guile will be featured in another based on one of the previews.

Lei-Lei (aka Hsien-ko) and her sister Mei-Ling (I think this her name in US at least).

Karin picture, it's Lilith from Darkstalkers and maybe Natsu from Rival School, can't tell.

Chun Li picture, Lin-Lin/Mei-Ling and Lei-Lei/Hsien-Ko from Darkstalkers.

Thanks! Don't even recognise the names. I mean I guessed the ones with wings were from Darkstalkers, but that's about all I knew. I jeed ti play more games...

No interest in getting these but I do like that the one of the variants matches with one from last year:

The girl from the bottom right eyes are waaaaay too far. Makes Clannad look normal.

I mean...that seems like a good idea for this kind of content.

I can imagine the dude drawing that Chun picture going, "These fucking abs." and then somebody was like, "What's going on with her head, man?" And the guy going, "These fucking ABS, tho."

Are those the only guys to be featured or are there potentially more?

This sort of just exemplifies why I'm not too keen on SF as of late. There's too much of a obsession with fan service (often involving fetishes, too). Dead or Alive always had the fan service thing covered. I'm not a fan of DoA, but i'm fine with that series alone being the main competitive fighter with a focus on objectification but it's clear that Capcom wants a piece of that as well.

There's no class to it. The FGC, while full of different minorities, it's infamously seen as a "boys only club". This sort of stuff, in the biggest fighting game franchise of all, certainly doesn't help.

I feel like Capcom teaming up with Udon was the really turning point into this. Udon mainly focuses on blatant fan service that feels like a disservice to the potential of Street Fighter and the FGC in general.

I'm not sure. The Haggar piece is the only one I know about for sure because he told me, and the Guile appearance is based on a small preview one of the artists posted on twitter, which also features at least one female character also.

Last year there were only two male beefcake pin-ups, which were posted in this thread already, and some random background appearances. I imagine it'll be similar this year, but that's just a guess.

Man that Juri cover is god awful. I like the Morrigan Vampirella homage.

How did that cover get chosen though? There has to be better art than that in the book.

Udon does do Street Fighter comics that honor the source material and don't treat the characters like sexual objects. The Akuma and Chun-Li minis are really good.
Stuff like this bikini issue is just a rare thing they unfortunately do.

Nothing wrong with making a living as an artist however you can. If they deem their quality good than nothing wrong with having drawn "porn". Many famous Japanese and manga artist start this way and still do it.

The dude what created Ghost in the Shell (Masamune Shirow) now makes tons of pornographic comics.

The only artist on that list that are top tier are Jeffrey “Chamba” Cruz, Omar Dogan, and Rob “Robaato” Porter. I like Andrea Cofrancesco but only when he isn't doing pervy loli stuff.

Jeez people, you guys are clueless. They're not going to use the best art for promos because they obviously want people to buy the thing to see them.

Gotta the trash out of the way first.

Aw, that's a bit of a shame if it sticks to just 2. Would've been cool if there was an entire beefcake version instead to go alongside the pinup version, even if it was just 12 pages.

If you dont mind PMing me the preview from the artist I'd apreciate that cheers

That Juri cover is hilariously bad. Every time I look at it I have to stifle a laugh. It's lewd, sure, but it's so awful the overall effect is comedy. I don't know if that is the intent or not.

That's not the way this works. You use better pieces to get people interested. That's why companies hire cover artists.

Pin-up magazines are one of the best places to judge a book by its cover.

It's nothing new. Marvel still thinks Greg Land is a good artist.
