Stressful Job vs. Boring Job

Mine is both right now. Business is slow in our small office and the business is losing money. This is causing everyone is starting to hating each other, mostly stemming from the two owners. I mean full-on, one step away from wishing death upon each others children hate. I want to leave so bad and very well might be quitting next month.

I don't care if it's boring or stressful, as long as people are working and not being bastards for eight hours straight.

It really depends on whether or not gaf is "bringing the goods"

Today? Ugh you all let me down, no good threads to be seen. I'd be pretty upset if I was real busy during E3 though :lol

Although my conscience hits me hard when I'm getting paid to do nothing, I still would prefer that over a stressful job. An occasionally stressful job is ok, but a job that is built to stress someone out isn't. It'll wear me out sooner or later.

I have a "boring" job right now, I'm working at a factory and can do my job pretty much on auto pilot. The benefit of this is that I have lots of time to think and if I want some distraction I can always listen to music, a podcast or an audiobook. I mostly dictate my own work pace, I'm not mentally (but sometimes physically) exhausted when I come home and I have a better salary than most people with stressful office jobs.

I'm in a job right now that is incredibly boring which I find to be stressful. When I'm sitting there doing nothing I can't help but feel like I'm useless and my time is being wasted.

This, not to mention computer use.

Basically getting to listen to music and surf GAF all day?
Sign me up!

It's not as fun surfing GAF for 8 hours while attempting to look busy as you might think. I had a full stressful job, staying till 12-1 am everyday for a few months and while it was exhausting it was also fun. Then recession came, some people got laid off and it became pretty much 8 hours of surfing GAF, everyday, it's actually pretty boring. The day drags on like hell.

Now it's starting to become stressful again with in between days of boredom (like, as you might have guess, right now). I think I much prefer the stressful days, but like not having them every day.

Coming up with creative designs and being able to manage my projects from start to finish, and having it be about something that fascinates me, is meaningful in my eyes. Sure, someone becomes richer than I do, but I don't see how a boring job would be different. Unless you're saying I should give up working all together.
Stressful jobs without all those perks are so much more common I don't think that it's worth considering. A dream job would be awesome, but it's called A dream for a reason.

That said, a dream job that is insanely stressful would not be a dream.

If you can find an honorable way of supporting yourself independently, it might free up all sorts of time to do something *actually* meaningful.

Basically, meaningless stressful jobs are so common, I'd gladly take the alternative so I could accomplish something meaningful during downtime, even if that's searching for a meaningful job. (that also isn't stressful)

Noticed a few job threads here. It depends if pay = duties/responsibilities/stress. Of course I prefer a job that isn't stressful and pays well. :lol I would take a stressful job, only if the pay is worth it. Most of the time, it isn't. -_-

Stress as in "Oh my god.. this shit is difficult/unreasonable, and if I don't find a solution (even if there isn't one), I'm totally screwed", I can do without.

I do like something to do, and that feeling of accomplishment.

Boredom (no one to talk to, and no internet) I don't think I'd like much, at all.

So given the options, assuming my examples are what's going down, I'll take boredom assuming I'm getting paid enough to handle business.

Eh, both have their ups and downs.
I'm currently at a boring job, it's nice to just stand here and do nothing but post on GAF but in some ways I miss my previous, stressful job. Sure it was a pain to be doing the work of 2 people but at the end of the day it felt good, at this job I feel no difference than I would if I spent the entire day at home sitting on the couch.

Eh.. It really depends on whether or not I like the work at the job and whether or not the co-workers are pretty easy to converse with.

My last job was pretty boring, but the teacher, her aide, and the secretaries were pretty fun to be around and the day went by pretty fast even despite the pretty boring nature of my work (tutoring and acting as secretary, and I actually liked doing it too). Alternatively, one of my prior jobs with a fast food restaurant was constantly stressful with a seemingly in-human workload (for example, "season 15 crates of chicken in an hour and it's only barely possible if you work like Superman for that entire hour and guess what, this is only your first hour in the day!") and the absolutely insane co-workers riddled with their own specific personality issues did not make the job better at all. Alternatively, my first job period was back when I was an assistant custodian when I was 14 and despite its stressful nature at times, the co-workers were a blast to be around and the work was bearable if not informative at times.

I would probably gravitate to a more "in-between" answer with a job that I like that isn't completely overdemanding. But given how most jobs tend to gravitate to either extreme, I would probably pick a boring job. I find it pretty easy to pass the time even in the most dead of situations.

Considering all the health problems that stress gives you, I'd rather have a boring job. Of course, in real life I'd look for a 50/50.

I've been bored to the fullest extent possible and I've been in stress in moderate amounts. Boredom is a shallow Sea, even at it's worst it's manageable. Stress however has no bottom in sight. Anyone who has ever felt like bringing a flamethrower to work will know what I mean.

If the stressful job means more pay (like it usually does), then that. Stressful also usually means the job is challenging which is very important for a job imo. I've done 2 boring jobs and seriously, it's way worse that way. Doing the same hand movement every day is not my line of work (and no, I wasn't talking about masturbation :lol ).

Of course in this current state of the world, I'd take any job that is even semi-related to my own field and knowledge.

If the stress is worth the extra pay, then sure.

If they both had the same pay, then everybody would choose the boring job, as it gives you time to plan stuff for your social life, expand on hobbies like drawing, browse gaf all day, etc. and stopping every now and again to do some work. Doesn't sound that bad.

Stressful only if what your doing actually feels like your making a difference. If you feel like your contributing to the company with real responsibilities and with real oppurtunities to show your worth then its a good job. I'd take stressful over boring, boring in itself is stressful because it feels tedious and well boring. I find the jobs where you actually need to work the full shift, the time goes by so much faster.
