Whats the difference between photoshop and photoshop extended? I'm looking at the $90 and $60 suite. Which is a better deal?

The $90 package includes their website building software (Dreamweaver) and the Extended version of Photoshop which is meant for 3D content creation.

You probably just want the $60 package.

Okay thanks, mostly wanting it for Photoshop and Illustrator. This gets tied to your adobe account so you can redownload it and such correct?

$900 is a bargain for everything you get.

Photoshop Extended
Illustrator
InDesign
Acrobat X Pro
Flash Catalyst CS5
Flash Professional
Flash Builder
Dreamweaver
Fireworks
Contribute CS5
Adobe Premiere Pro
After Effects
Audition CS5.5
Bridge 2
Device Central 2
Media Encoder 2
Oh, I didn't notice that it's a package. Well still, looking at Photoshop for $350 still seems a tad much. I mean aren't they obviously taking an advantage out of being the unchallenged market leader? Or are they having huge teams working daily at improving it?

Awesome OP, I just ordered... I am waiting for confirmation now. :)

200 dollars for taxes and shipping is not bad. :) I like physical products. XD

It drives me nuts that Audition only comes with two packages!

I might be forced to pay an additional $90 for the Master Collection just so I can get it.

Oh well. This is definitely a first-world problem that I shouldn't be complaining about.

I just (hopefully) purchased Photoshop CS5 with the discount. I used my college ID that expires 5/13. We'll see if they accept that without a college email address.

I have Adobe products through work, but I wouldn't mind buying a personal license just so that I don't need to do without when I leave this job.

Holy shit. I don't even know what I should get.

Okay, Master Collection it is. Box edition seems to be the more secure option.

Did anyone else have trouble getting to the student verification page?

Yeah, they keep giving me a "system error" and a phone number, I've been on hold for about 15 minutes. I checked my email though and I did get an order confirmation email...just with no info as to where to send my student ID validation. Might have something to do with blocked cookies? That third party page is awol.

Nice muzak though.

OH MY GAWD A PERSON! *finish order*

Not really... it's professional grade software that is used by many to make major BANK. People/companies make thousands/millions off Adobe CS every year, so it makes sense to me. Apple is fighting in bringing prices down though (FCX --> $300, PP CS 5.5 --> $800).

After a while I got transferred to a sales person who was kinda bad.

I got two sales people. The first guy found my account and said it'd be gravy, then transferred me to a second woman who said I didn't exist. Also, India. I won't know for a couple days if my order will go through.

Damn, they have one bad customer support.

And still angered they still show 80% off on the international sites. Instead we only have a 50 euros discount.

I've worked it out, the student discount is 80% off the base price of CS5 which can retail for like £2k. This promotional offer is another 80% off the 80% reduction for N.A, but hasn't been extended for anywhere else, which sucks major balls.

Yup, that's what I figured. They completely don't care of course.

These products are used by professionals who can make tens of thousands off single projects in part through their software. These aren't meant to be tools for the average computer user or hobbyist, and are priced as such. If you're a student you can and will receive it at a massive education discount.

This sucks... I'm stuck on CS3, and can't afford to upgrade at all. I'd totally jump on this if I hadn't graduated like 3 years ago :(

Edit: hmmm.. there's apparently 20% off upgrades until March 15. Should I hop on this or wait for CS6.

"Finally I can buy Photoshop" I thought. But no, only for US customers :( Damn it, it's such a great offer, I wouldn't even hesitate.

So, is Photoshop worth buying over using GIMP 2? I currently use and like GIMP quite a bit. I'm not sure that shelling out the $ is worth it. Anyone have experience?

So... Is there any catch to this? I'm ready to put down the $60 for the standard creative suite right now.

Well, Autodesk softwares are free for student. The Adobe discount price is nice, but the base price is far too high for most student. I'm not gonna pay three times my school fee to get the master collection.
Basically the whole 1000+ students had to find their own way of "acquiring" almost any program they need. That's pretty stupid.

And Side Effects offers a non-commercial version of Houdini Master (which is $6,695 for the commercial version) for $99 to anyone, student or not. The $99 version is limited to 1,920X1,080, but who needs to render animation at higher than that for personal use?
Do they allow it for all disciplines or just computer science degrees?

Art/design majors would need it far, far more than computer science majors, no?

Well, let's see how it goes, i ordered but in the e-mail they send they said that they wouldn't charge me till the student verification but my bank confirmed that they already made the total charge. I just hope it goes well and i can get my software. Also that verification page is incredible bad, just once loaded for me, i hope they received the scanned id.

I am in Canada and I can't get it to work.

What province? You may need to call it in. (And Quebec is not allowed)

So are staff eligible too, or jut teachers?

Based on what it says there, yes, staff are eligible, so long as you can prove it according to their criteria.

What are the advantages over GIMP? When you make only $12 an hour, $40 is a lot...

For better or worse, Photoshop is the basis of the modern visual image editor today. Any graphics or development job you get is going to run into this program from time to time - it's basically more ubiquitous than Windows in that sense.

There are other good tools out there for cheap or free. GIMP, Paint.net, etc. But each of them tends to suffer from various usability flaws or feature issues. A lot of the programs listed in the Master Collection seem like pure junk to me but the core apps are sturdy, powerful and user friendly.
