In an update published earlier today, Hotel Barcelona publisher CULT announced they would be removing AI generated content from the game, citing major ethical reasons.

CULT Games' stance on generative AI is clear: we are opposed to any professional GenAI use that has disproportional environmental impact, takes work away from real people, or has been trained on unethical datasets.

We regret that our store page did not clearly reflect this detail at launch. We've updated the page and will continue improving our disclosures. We want to thank the community for raising it so clearly. Hopefully this message has shed some light on the situation.

I haven't read through the article but would be pretty cooky if they said 'technology is unethical'. Title might be misleading.

People had the same reaction to MP3s and video streaming services and now they pretty much dominate the industry.

Within 5 years it will be rare to see a game that doesn't use AI to some extent.

Games already use AI: NPCs, DLSS, Procedural Generation etc.

Generative AI can speed up asset building or expand voice work, but companies need to train their own models because the big Language Models are trained on the entire internet.

Not a game for me, but screw so-called "generative AI" (glorified theft). Good on you.

Don't really care, the technology isn't unethical inherently, just how you choose to use it that isn't just copypasta-ing someone else's work without their consent.

I don't trust most companies that offer these apologies, many are likely already making use of the tech, will likely make use of outsourcing that uses it too, and there will be more implementations that involve it in the workflow process instead of just generation.

Whatever but really more people should probably be talking about the electric consumption. It's pretty wild. It will get more efficient, but more widely used. Pretty soon, au will be churning out memes, video, and antagonistic fake news way faster than our species can. That's going to take a lot of juice.

Unlikely, computational power required for Generative AI only keep increasing because no one has any idea on how to make CUDA technology and friends more efficient, it a massive engineering challenge.

Just look at the power required to run Turing Cards (RTX2000) compared to Blackwell Cards (RTX 5000), it's expected that Rubin Cards will start pulling 600W+

Oh what a relief because that was almost resembling a shred of good news, This timeline is sooooo fucked.
