Summon Night 5 Physical+Digital Interest Poll Up

Again, I'm not sure this campaign will achieve its stated aims, but I signed up anyway. Better to have tried and lost, right?

But, is the game any actual good? Does anyone know? I feel like the game's quality may be secondary in many backers' priorities for some reason (NeoGAF's collective hard-on for Vita notwithstanding).

I really liked the first Swordcraft Saga game on GBA, if that helps.

At worst people were griping that 3 is better, but that 5 is still very good. I personally agree with starting strongest, and this looks way better than 3 from an aesthetics perspective.

Watching some gameplay videos, does anyone else think the graphics look amazing for a PSP game? It's really beautiful. It's a bit of a missed opportunity to not promote this with more gameplay footage

Is the plan to make an english dub, just keep the JP one or even dual audio (I doubt it)?

I think it just needs a bit more attention from some (even niche) media outlets after E3 and it'll get there

EDIT: Just in the worst case scenario, the game will happen anyway and the poll is just about the physical version right?

I'm glad this seems to have some momentum, even if I'm not interested in collecting physical copies and will just buy it digitally.

Though I'm curious, how many of these votes translate to actual sales? Was there a significant drop off when you've done this previously?

In the last two we did, the interest poll was pretty close to what actually happened when the presale opened. There's no guarantee, ever, but we're hoping that pattern holds this time as well. A gameplay video and pic of the contents of the package may actually increase presales when/if that happens. So far, so good, though.

The game looks very, very good, but you have to be careful because many of the online gameplay videos are running it on an emulator with effects on that make the Live2D graphics look even more polished than on a PSP/Vita.

Do you have it running with the English text yet, or too soon?

Oh I know, but there are ones with original PSP resolution as well. Of course the emulators make it look even better, but it'll still look amazing on the Vita. The art and character models are very strong.

It's completely in English. We're well into the second pass (rewrite/smoothing/character continuity), and a little way into the third and final pass (cleanup). Menu items for summons/skills are the main pain point left. Many of the summons/skills are ridiculously long with no easy way to abbreviate them.

I hadn't thought about that, but you're right. The Vita's emulation should make SN5 look like some of the emulators out there with effects turned on (i.e. exceptionally good). We'll have to try it after E3 on the Vita dev kit and see if that holds true!

I'm sure this goes without saying, but the more of that you can show off, the better.

This looks interesting, but I'm a bit wary to put so much money down on a game with no reviews and with so little information out there. It looks like a very basic SRPG, although the relationship system sounds like an interesting new twist.

I'm definitely in for Class of Heroes 3.

Halfway point:

Not bad, considering E3 took away a little bit of steam from it. Still looking good! 2 weeks left, is it?

With ten days left, I'm not sure we'll come up with the other half.

I thought there was more time than that... I think doing this during E3 might've lost some exposure. I didn't see as many articles on it compared to the other projects :/

Well, hopefully the higher price option will be open like it was for 2G.

I'm not pinning on E3, I just think that the goal was too high. Double what Class of Heroes 2 got two years ago? Unless it's something really high-profile, I think most gamers will just settle with a digital copy.

E3 definitely killed momentum. It was probably a bad idea to have a poll with E3 smack dab in the middle of it. I've extended the poll a couple weeks and we have a dedicated PR guy that's come on now which should help get the word out.

Still, we're well on the way to 3400 now, so that's a good sign. We had more the first half of this week added than all of E3 week.

Were you there? I guess it would be kind of bad to shill for sign-ups at E3, but hey, if they allow it...

I was there, but that was more about lining up deals and or working toward locking down the next and next-next games for us. Plus, there were a lot of pretty big announcements at the show and the effect is that they drown out everything else. Waiting until after the show and picking up and continuing was the best course of action.

Vic would Sony let you post about this on the PSBlog that seems to have a pretty big audience.

Working on making that happen, thanks.

Sweet I am really glad you are still making deals for physical copies so I will keep trying to sale my friends on these though sadly only 1 has a Vita so it's a little hard. Funny enough I saw this thread had updated after I got done playing a bit of Cosmic Fantasy 2.

Yeah, I'm committed to offering at least a limited physical option as long as we can for all the platforms we publish after which they're digital only. Thanks for your support!

Man... I saw Summon Night and got absurdly excited for a second. Then I remembered that the series is a strategy RPG and the swordcraft story games are just spinoffs.

It hurts every single time. :(

OMG, I was thinking this is the a side scrolling action game coming in too. Never know it was a spin off, I adorn that game on GBA.

Yeah, those side story games were pretty cool. Summon Night 5 is definitely a mainline entry in the series - the first ever to make it to North America.

We just released a bit more information about the game packaging. Each copy will include one of two big 19" x 14" posters (the max size we could fit into a PSP case folded and still have room for the manual and UMD) that look like this:

It's almost at 4k, but I have to say, you really should be showing this stuff off when you launch the campaign. The first impression's the strongest.

We picked up almost 200 already today, so that's a good sign. We're over 3600 signed up as interested now. I've got someone handling PR starting this week that is chasing coverage to get awareness up and getting more information like this out there.

I really like the trolley poster. Wow.

I think random posters are a bit off-putting. Not sure what the idea behind that is

Have you ever bought things from Working Designs or Vic before? He loves variants, a good number if not most of his releases have had disc variants or some other kind of packaging variant.

That's nice, I guess. Was an OST too expensive to make it work?

How about a dual-sided poster? I don't want to open to see what I got, but it looks like I will have to. =(

Trolley get!

Variants enhance and/or grow a gaming community by fostering discussion and trading. Usually I don't even acknowledge them, so fans can suss out the details, but the posters are extra cool, so here you have it.

I have no interest in this game, but am a huge Working Designs fan. I know that supporting this will lead to even better projects in the future. I'm so grateful for the games that Vic has brought over in the PSX/Saturn era that I feel obligated to sign up for this. If only I could find out what other games they have in the works. There are so many other good PSP RPGs out there that need to come stateside.

I'll have to think on it for the night, but will most likely support this. In a world where most games don't even come with a manual anymore I need to do my part.

Oh, I understand. A poster is better than nothing, but would it be packed inside the UMD case?

Yes. 14" x 19" is pretty much the maximum size with a decent paper stock we could fold into a PSP case and still have it close. We tested a number of sizes and paper stocks to arrive at that conclusion. :)

Sad that the poster will be random but I don't really mind.

Can't remember if I post here but I already sign up when I saw the thread before E3.

Cool news about the poster. I signed up day one but if I didn't I'd do it again.
