woo dark souls! I still have not played any of the souls games...should I start with demons or dark 1?

Start with Dark 2 because then you can only go up from there

Is there anything close to a monk or fist fighter class in dark souls? I've always been a sucker for punching shit in the face.

There are no "classes" in the souls games but there are fist weapons. Do not use them. Not on your first playthrough at least

The classes in Souls games don't make much difference. It just determines what your starting stats are. You can do fist fighter in both games but it's not that viable of a build.

There's fist weapons but using them will make your life harder. Strength builds get lots of versions of wrecking shit though. Souls it's hard to really build your character to be whatever you want till late game. You have to find all your equipment as you play.
I think i'd have to choose the atmosphere.

Then do Demon's first, but don't you dare skip Dark 1 if Demon's doesn't pull you in immediately.

Ooh. This is a loaded question... I'd really say you can't go wrong with either, but lemme pitch a scenario to you: Do you want a world with few loading screens that lets you go anywhere in it, or a game with arguably better atmosphere?

I personally prefer Dark 1, but it's pretty much up to you, so long as you play 'em both eventually. For me all the loading screens when you leave/enter level is Demon's got on my nerves really badly after playing Dark 1.

I think i'd have to choose the atmosphere.

There are fist weapons that you can use but you won't start out with them and, having never used them, I can't tell you if they are good our not.

They're not shit-tier but they're like C tier. There's one
boss soul
fist weapon that gives you a Shoryuken though. Still not great to really use.
Playing Demons after playing Dark feels super weird, and super janky. Start with the original.

Preferably on a PC.
Uh, Demon's on a PC?

the souls games arent completely that strict in terms of clases. You can create so many varients of a class to suit your playstyles.

Personally I use a double cestus weapon set for PVP, one cestus is coated in fire and the other in lightning, so I rain down fire and lightning with ever strike and stagger em until they're packed into a corner and whap on them like ippo.

Being a fist fighter isn't a great idea in any of the Souls games. All the dedicated punch weapons range from bad to mediocre and the Souls games aren't generally ones where you want to sacrifice range on your first playthrough anyway.

But to be sure, stick with a mostly melee build. Some magic or buffs here and there are fine, but the combat of the Souls games really shine when you're fighting up close. It makes you really appreciate all the work the put into the enemy AI, enemy tells, hitboxes, i-frames on the dodge rolls and just how well the game controls in general. You're seriously knee-capping yourself if you decide to go pure mage or ranged.

EDIT:
While we are talking about dark souls, is the dlc for dark 2 any good? Do you think I should get the season pass for it?

So far, impressions on the Sunken Crown DLC have been pretty positive with a number of folks saying it's one of the better areas in the game. But if you're still skeptical, hold off on the second DLC and keep an eye on the DkS2 Community thread or the Reddit to see if it's worth investing the whole $25 bucks for the complete package.

It is absolutely brilliant. It's basically a God tier Zelda dungeon, placed in a Souls game.

It's incredibly immersive, and extremely fun, and challenging to boot.

I definitely agree with this. If you are having trouble with a full melee build, you can try pyromancy because you get such a small amount of uses that you can really only use it for bosses. When I was playing the first, having pyromancy kept me from quitting early because if there was a hard-ish boss fight, I could fall back on pyromancy.

That's unfortunate. Dark Souls 1 and 2 are much better on PC then console. As long as you use DSfix for Dark 1.
Durante is the coolest motherfucker ever. I'm using DPfix for Deadly Premonition PC too. What an awesome guy to continually update that content.
Dark 1 is by far the hardest... so keep that in mind.

Oh, no way. It's Dark 2. It's just that everyone who plays Souls games got gud.

Man you guys made the decision between dark and demons even harder...but i think i'm gonna go with dark then go to demons. I dunno I feel like i should do that like....like its my destiny

Yeah, but fuck him for calling Demon's Souls a tech build for Dark Souls. That shit pissed me off so much.

Your destiny is wrong. Going backwards is going to make things difficult. Play Demon's first. You won't regret it.

You know what you might be right. Well, Demon's is easiest none the less.

A really recommend giving both a try if it's feasible for you. Play a good 10 hours of each to see if you greatly prefer either. Definitely prioritize both of them over Dark 2.
Dark 2 felt like it had more bullshit than difficulty for me.
Lots. There's a lot of traps that don't even let you observe that they are. Like the
one door in the Forest an enemy breaks down and hits you through.

Also they weirdly keep putting enemies in groups to aggro at the same time to feel scary/hard. The combat engine is way more suited for 1v1. Demon's is the easiest.

Eh, I thought Demons was the hardest, from the lack of polish. DS/DS2 feel balanced based on whatever playstyle your use, where as in DeS, it felt like they were pushing magic hard.

Going shieldless through DeS is an experience.

What are you guys favorite boss designs? I'm not talking about the actual fight but just the boss as a character. For me, it is a tie between Guts Artorias and Ornstein.

My Dark 1 shieldless run has a special place in my heart. It increases the tension a lot. Should give it a shot in DeS.

I do actually like that it was hard to get a 100% phys block shield for the start of Dark 2. It discourages turling a tiny bit.

God that's a hard question... like every single one? Artorias, Smough, Ornstien... I like the DeS Tower Knight for just being a huge normal enemy...
(I really love the variety of bosses in Dark 1)

well I'm getting some money soon and I was planning on buying revengance, skullgirls, a preorder for ultimax, FF7, Xenogears, and dark or demons.

Shields are for babbies. The only shield for me is the
Grass Crest Shield
and it remains unused, on my back.

I couldn't get into the games, until I played shieldless, and realized how much terror comes with it. The game speeds up considerably.

Artorias, Manus, and Kalamet are the perfect trio to end the DLC f DS.

Poor Sanctuary Guardian. Always forgotten.

DeS: False King Allant, Maiden Astrea, and Old Monk.

DaS: Great Wolf Sif, Biggie Smalls, and Artorias.

DaS2: Hah.
The Pursuer is alright.

Hmm... Beyond Two Souls part 4 isn't working. Toss that onto the pile of bugs the Zaibatsu have to sort out with the website.

Speaking of piles of bugs, is there a place to just dump info on bugs and stuff like that that hinder the experience of the website? Instead of having to drop a comment that no one might ever read

Fuck... that's a hard choice. Revengeance is only like 12$ for consoles now right? Looks like Demon's and Dark 1 are both $16. All three of those games are some of my favorite games ever. I'd say get one of the Souls games and Revengeance, if you only get two.

Also people in this thread will be playing Ultimax if you're into fighters and wanna play with losers.

Sorry. Low hanging fruit.

THIS. I've never like blocking in games. I've always preferred dodging and I found dark much better shieldless.

Dark 2 felt like it had more bullshit than difficulty for me.

To an extent, yeah. Though I think a lot of that comes from a lack of polish or proper playtesting on certain enemies with strings of tracking attacks, big enemies with sweeping melee and so on.

I still find it challenging to rank the games purely in terms of difficulty, since each game has its own exploits and ways to completely trivialize most of the enemy encounters. Even then, I don't think difficulty is a great barometer to judge the Souls games anyway, since once you become familiar with enemy patterns and distribution, level layout, dodge i-frames, stamina management and weapon movesets it doesn't become a challenge to play through any of the games and rarely die. The real strength of the games comes from the amount of polish and work has gone into the aforementioned and how often the games successfully pull them off.

This is the same for me however, I got used to using a shield but I am so uncomfortable not using one that I need to train myself not too for my dual wield build dex build.

Gaping Dragon, Dragon Lord, Kalameet, I really like a lot of their dragon designs.

Otherwise, Sif, False King Allant, and that blind hero from Demon's.

Only thing that stands out to me from Dark 2 is that frog thing, I have a hard time remembering any of the bosses of that game.

I say start with Demons by virtue of how much shorter it is and how much fewer options you have to pull your hair at over in comparison.

Also dat Tower of Latria. You have to experience it asap. You will evolve as a person once you're through with it.

That's a tough one. Adjudicator was pretty fucking out there once you got it all in while Sanctuary Guardian is probably the most badass Manticore of all time.

And then there is the Gaping Dragon. What more needs to be said other than that? Sinh ended up being pretty rad too. Funny how many dragons there are for a setting where dragons supposedly died off before the first game.

I'm going to do a Giant Dad build in the future. For funsies.

I don't know why. Dark Souls PvP is completely dead on PCs.

My favorite joke build is Muscle Wizard or RIPPED.

The wealth of hilarious Dark Souls YouTube videos are amazing. And is it dead? My internet was always too shit to get online working.

WHAT AHHHHHHHHHHHH

This. Tower of Latria is a fucking experience like no other. My favorite location in any Souls game.
