Super Best Friends |OT2| We Promise Nothing and Deliver Less

Those trailers got me so hyped back then. The actual game was pretty meh unfortunately.

But the writing and Nolan were pretty good.

It's okay. The only reason it's not terrible to me is because it knows what it is. It wasn't trying to be game of the year it knew that it was an okay licensed game.

Liam super defending the cute asian girl design...

Yeah, gameplay is repetitive as all hell. But most cameos (Mr. Sinister, Vertigo, Cable, Death) were better than they had any right to be tbh. Nailed the tone.

Honestly, Matt was kind of being a dick. Obviously he wasn't the intended audience for this game. It's not a fanboy game, but for a little kid that likes Xmen, this is a decent intro to the characters.

The not dying and not having the little girl killed were for the Tweens and children who'll play this because they're interested in Xmen. It's serviceable for a gateway game.

It's even more of a fanboy game than Matt is, actually. I believe the game justifies the gene with some U-Men bullshit. His hatred of Silicon Knights blinds him to other things, though.

Time for some top games spam of my own. No particular order.

Heavy Gear
Quest for Glory: Shadows of Darkness
Ecco: The Dolphin - Tides of Time
Chrono Cross
Fallout 2
-
Earthbound
Dark Souls
Dota
Lineage 2
Pokemon Emerald
-
Guardian Legend
Lunar
Heroes of Might and Magic 3
Diablo 2
Quake

I'm admittedly not an expert, but from what I saw isn't the game mostly about fighting Neo-Nazis and not colorful cartoonish X-Men villains like Apocalypse*? I don't think the target audience here was actually as young as you're imagining.

See also: Douchey McSports and Copman, your amazing protagonists. I do like that Douchey is just pre-beastorization Beast ripped off to masquerade as a new character design, though. Letterman jacket and everything, just laming it up.

*Yeah, I know Apocalypse is actually pretty dire, but look at that goofy-ass blue motherfucker. Kids love it.

Vignettes of people going hollow.

That actually sounds pretty great. Something like Kino's Journey except the protag is just someone on the verge of going hollow meeting the likes of the various characters like Solaire and Logan and seeing the sights until
they go hollow themselves, just before they reach either kiln

Vignettes of people going hollow.

That would be perfect holy shit. Each 'episode' focusing on one character like Bokurano. Fucking perfect.
I think a live action movie could potentially be cool but I know they'd fuck it up.

This would be fantastic to see with a big budget, but I can't imagine them being able to get the details in or a good enough plot to really sell it as a blockbuster. It'd have to be a tour of world, and the game does that better, sorta, since you get to explore it yourself and experience the atmosphere.
Man I love Dark Souls. It feels like walking around in a book.

E_Darkness, you and everyone else in this thread have amazing taste.

I just noticed how many pages there are already. I need to step up my game if this aspiring junior wants to get in the shame wall.

Also I saw people spoiler texting their favoruite games so I want to join in. Random order:
God Hand
Devil May Cry 3
Chrono Trigger
Etrian Odyssey IV
A Link To The Past
Devil Summoner Overclocked
Digital Devil Saga
Dragon's Crown
Demon's Souls
Nier

I'm so fickle with my favourite games it'll probably be different next week.

After all of us making lists of our favorite games today, figured I'd propose a new type of list because fuck it, I'm bored.

1. Needless
2. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
3. Devilman
4. Getter Robo Saga
5. Akira

Honorable mention goes to My Balls. Yes, that is the actual title of a manga.

I don't know what it says about me that I am extremely curious as to what that third item on your list is about.

This made me realize that I really don't read much manga. Anyways, here's my shitty list.
  • Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
  • Attack on Titan
  • Haikyuu!!
  • Dragon Ball
  • Masturbation Master Kurosawa (I'm not kidding)
Honorary mentions go to Berserk, One Punch Man and One Piece which I haven't read yet but would probably enjoy if I did.

Edit: Also Bokurano which I am in the midst of reading.

I don't know what it says about me that I am extremely curious as to what that third item on your list is about.

I only read it like 3 days ago because of the GAF thread "Get someone into a manga with just one page" so I'm being biased. Basically it's a manga based on a 2chan story. It's somewhat typical loner-romance-mess.
I got a feel from it though so leave me alone.

Spoilers:
It did have hilarious Jojo references though.

I really don't know what direction the game was going. Yes there were flaws, but I've seen much worse spinoff games(is it a spinoff right?)

What a mysterious Jogo.

I rented X-men Destiny and it played like shit. Even if we're talking about the use of cameos, the game felt so terrible. I'd much rather recommend one of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games or X-men Legends for kids.
Kids deserve semi-decent combat.

I never did a list of my favorite games so here it is:
Bayonetta
MGS3
Shadow of the Colossus
Persona 4
DMC4
Chrono Trigger
Xenoblade Chronicles
Fallout NV

And when it comes to manga I really haven't read much. In fact all I've read is Jojo and Berserk, actually I just caught with Jojo today.

For me it would have to be:
1.
Jojo
2.
Gintama
3.
One Piece
4.
Dragon Ball
5.
YuYu Hakasou

I appreciate that all you nerds either had Earthbound or Chrono Trigger, two very special RPGs in my heart of hearts.

You frienders are something special. I mean it!

;_;

Comparatively, yeah those are much more enjoyable games. But I could see Xmen Destiny being one of those games that some kids hold a special attachment to, whether it's the art style or the use of the Xmen license.

Catching up with last weeks podcast and once again Liam is being contrarian almost for the sake of it. D:
He's just being Tsundere. Seriously though he's just trying to argue mostly in case someone listening disagrees. He does the devil's advocate thing, I can kinda relate.

I guess that's fair. It wasn't so bad that a kid would hate it, for sure. (And I regretted not putting Paper Mario or Chrono Trigger on my list)

I feel like such a pleb for not having played Earthbound and not being super hyped for Chrono trigger. I mean It's great and all but not in my top 5

I never played Earthbound, but seeing all the love it gets it will be one of the first things I'll buy when I get a WiiU.
People moved on to manga now? Jeez I need to step up my game.
Screw orders because I love them all (and screw spoiler tags because now I'm being lazy)

Berserk
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (especially Steel Ball Run)
Claymore
Vagabond
Rurouni Kenshin

I guess the first two are givens to be part of the best friend fandom.

My manga list / no order ocourse

Bokurano
Oyasumi Punpun
Claymore
Rurouni Kenshin
Yuretsuzukeru (completely nsfw)
I need to read alot more manga

Play EarthBound???

giphy.gif

And mother 3

First earthbound, then mother 1, then mother 3.

I think I still have my OG cartridge still at my parents home with the big box and the dumb guidebook that came with the game.

My very first RPG ever. ;_;

I love that little gem of the SNES library.

I haven't played Earthbound either.
Its too bad that there's no portable version, at least none to my knowledge, available. I really don't have the patience to sit at home and play RPGs like I used too.
