Also, goddamn I'm so glad Pat, Woolie, and Liam are gonna marathon Gaim. Best fucking Kamen Rider (though I still have a soft spot in my heart for W).

Whew, that took a lot more time than I expected. Now I just hope that Aaron and Romars actually read it.
Anime talk huh? I still need to look into what to watch next now that I've finished TTGL.

Sabagebu! obviously

This made me laugh out loud.. But to be really honest.. their new albums haven't been so great.

Don't worry. In the end, it doesn't even matter.

The version of Numb with Jay-Z is still the hypest shit. It's so goddamn good. (And will never be performed live again because Jay-Z is too busy making mad money and having sex with Beyonce.)

I was doing karaoke a few months ago and the machine broke, I said "Gimme dat goddamn mic" and did all of "In the end" from memory.

The place blew up.

This is actually a true story.

I did this in October for a Megadeth and Black Label Society show, felt like a complete moron but I played it off as needing to get cheaper gas because it is always cheaper in the town they held the concert.

Are you now crawling in your skin?

I had To tell someone.
I'm glad I told the Frienders.
Now I don't feel as dumb.

Again, I will continue to recommend Shin Mazinger. Unless you want something other than mecha, then Excel Saga. Or Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi.

Man, I should fucking watch Excel Saga again, followed by Puni Puni Poemy. Hell, I'm wondering now what Nabeshin has been up to lately.

I played all of Amnesia the correct way, in complete darkness any everything, but the knowledge that death was the better alternative destroyed any tension there. Death is already only a minor inconvenience in these games, but having it not even be that made me completely lose interest in the horror element, especially when the environments lost all semblance of creativity and horror, it just became "Look at this spooky torture chamber with this dead body! OooOOooooh!" The mansion was better, because it had all those rooms where things could pop out from, there was the threat of anytime anywhere still, since the formula hadn't entirely been run into the ground yet, but there weren't even really any enemies in the mansion, it wasn't until the underground area, which relied way too heavily on the strict layout. Like, you can easily tell when there's going to be an enemy based solely on how many rooms you're passing. Then, when you did run into one, it wasn't even remotely difficult to get away from them, there was no sense of dread, because 1, the AI was terrible and couldn't realistically ever get you and 2, even if they did, I'd just be healed and end up further down the hallway. Knowing when they're coming, combined with how little of a threat they posed set in a boring catacomb made Amnesia a super disappointing experience.

I unironcially love Linkin Park! But I'm a dummy. Had tickets for a concert in NY, traveled out to go see them, no one is at the stadium.

Apparently in my hype I forgot that the date for the concert is next week.

:( I'm an idiot.
I also unironically love Linkin Park.

SO NO CHI NO SA DAME. JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOJO! JOJO! JOJO!

Attack on Titan also works.

I love that first Jojo opening.

Another thing is that I don't find jump scares to be inherently cheap, it depends on how they're utilized. When the point of the jump scare is to make you jump, it could be considered cheap. However, if a game focuses on building up fear for the anticipation of the jump scare, rather than the jump scare itself, it's a valid tactic.

Jump scares are scary. It's the build and release of tension and sudden loud noises after silence instill dread. They're also commonly accompanied by disturbing imagery, which is another key component.

The problem is that they're also the easiest part of horror to do and end up being relied on too heavily, which makes them feel cheap every time you see one.

NO! Will look into the "Monster" and other recommendations later on.

Yeah. It's like they looked at the ending of the show and went "nope, this isn't over the top enough"
Might watch JoJo or Attack on Titan. Already saw Welcome to the NHK.

Also, give me a couple of minutes to reply to your post Aaron.

Cowboy Bebop is short and excellent, watch that. Also the dub is solid if you prefer to take it that way, so you've got options.

Edit: Oh, and FLCL if you haven't seen it, it's even shorter and also good, with a solid dub.

I do believe the threat of danger is far more useful than actual damage.

Always being on edge is scary, not random images. Jump scare can be anything though, it could be a cat and be scary, they can be done effectively, but I think atmosphere is much more important.

I would consider Monster as something to pace yourself watching. I binged the entire series in around a week and my attention slowly burned away. It's good, but I've already forgotten somethings because it's all melded together. I want to rewatch, but it's a large investment.

The thing about jump scares for me isn't the actually moment itself, but every moment after. In Dead Space, for example, after the first time a monster pops out of a vent, every time I saw a vent I tensed up. Horror is most effective when you make someone scare themselves.

I read it but it's a bit over my head unfortuneatly.
I did play some survival horror games back in the day, RE1 and CV, but I never really got the hype, even though I did enjoy them. I just don't have the reverence for that formula, I'm afraid.

See, I would count that as atmosphere, unrelated to the jumpscare. Jumpscares are easy, but I wouldn't say the type I detailed is inherently cheap, it adheres to one of the three tenants of the definition of horror, shock. The moment being in stark contrast to the dreary, methodical pace. At least that's how they should be, and used to be used. Now that's all we have, when the jump scare is the only scare, it is certainly cheap, but when it's used super sparingly then it creates the atmosphere that you detailed, freaking out over little things that aren't actually scary.

As for the quality of Amnesia, I think my problems mainly come from having it super hyped up. I didn't have anyway to play until years after release/popularization, so I kept hearing "Oh shit, this game is so scary! I can't even play it!" Then I saw the concept in a gameplay video, got really excited because it seemed to solve a lot of the issues the genre was plagued with, it got built up to be the savior of the survival horror genre but was flawed in a lot of ways. It's more of a personal disappointment, but it makes me sad when people talk about it as though it's the scariest game ever, because I honestly don't even think it's a good one.

Man fuck PT. It's outrageously obtuse and this first person perspective makes me fucking die at jump scares. I need this game to be in third person really badly.

You will cry like a little girl and you will like it.

That said, I don't think the actual game will be anything like PT. The teaser was intentionally obtuse because it was hiding a reveal. They deliberately made it difficult in order to draw out the mystery.

The final game has got to be in third person, right?
You don't pay for Norman Reedus then stick it in first person.
Unless you're a crappy TV tie-in game with shitty character models.

I think we are talking about different games, they are playing PT, not Silent Hills
never mind I'm an idiot. Their plan worked on me. I'll leave the above post untouched to show my shame,

2015's summer expo's conventions ect. are gonna be effing nuts.

" Hey everything is coming out. ALL THE THINGS. "

The thing about Bloody Stream is it accurately depicts JoJo at it's most, uh... fabulous. Like, the posing, the neon pink color base for most of the palette, the fetish-king Pillar Men, the bubbles and rainbows and rampant Joseph/Caesar bromance, it's all there and completely unadulterated.

I suppose maybe they should have done something to imply the actual setting and that there would also be fighting, but other than that it pretty much hits Battle Tendency on the nose.

im imagining pat jumping and flailing about because of jump scares and its the funniest/cutest thing I can think of...its the tiny babby body he has, his flailing legs amuse me.

I do think the animation part of Bloody Stream is better than SONO CHI NA SADAME JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOJOOOOOOOO but the actual song is much better. I do also like how the first opening recreates scenes from the manga.

Yeah, Bloody Stream as a song is pretty 80's, though that's entirely appropriate to the style of the arc. (I know it isn't set in the 80's, but man, can you ever tell it was written in them.)
