Except that this time it was Belichick's thinking and ingenious decision that forced Carroll into that corner to make it all happen.
Everyone in the world, including me, every probability statistician, thought BB should have called a timeout. Heck, BB let the Giants score in the last superbowl, and saved time for Tom to try to tie it. So same scenario.
From the horse's mouth, Pete Carroll himself, thought BB would call what should have been an obvious timeout. But BB didn't.
So simple: How many short, quick slant passes has Seattle completed in this game? This season? It's not what they do. They lob it up, or Wilson scrambles around to pass. That's their strength. Two things they couldn't do with 20 some seconds left. BB takes away your strength, and running down the clock is what that did.
Belichick believed his goal line defensive unit was better than a -limited(20 seconds)- passing offense Carroll had on that field, so he wanted Seattle do use it, and he was ready to take his chances. Seattle has no intermediate or short passing game to be afraid of, it was the best possible situation for BB and his D, and he was either going to make Carroll call a timeout to change his unit and save one of his, or take his chances with a defensive unit that was easily able to figure out the passing play Seattle was going to make, thanks to running the clock down. It was thanks to running the clock down, that BB forced Carroll into running a quick catch and pass play, and nothing that would take a long time to develop, which is what Wilson's and Seattles' strength is.
Carroll should have called a timeout in that situation, as crazy as that is, once he realized BB was not going to, because that's the only way he could have kept the possibility of running 3 real plays, and not be limited by time to a short passing play as one of his 3. And either substitute for a run offense with Lynch, or save enough time for a wider possibility of longer developing passing plays that gave Wilson a chance. He banked on BB to call it, and BB allowed the clock to run down.
Once again, BB was playing Chess. Carroll tried to as well, but his chess game just wasn't as good.
I was watching them when I looked forward to playing the Colts every year because I knew we would get 1 win. We would always win there against them! Then we would lose at home to them.

To answer your question the best I can, I think it depends on how important they are to your city and how long they are good. When the Patriots first started the dynasty, there were so many pink hats, but now more fans seem legit than not. I believe this is how it was in SF also.
I would love to see Luck play! But yeah, I can see once Manning left you could have some issues. Manning also made the Colts, Patriots had Parcells and Bledsoe, so it "feels" longer if that makes any sense?
Did I mention if I was a Colts fan I would have tickets because of Luck?!

This is how I feel as a Dolphins fan. Beating the pats week 1 made my entire season even if it was mostly junk after that.
This is what we do as fans. This is why I do not trash other fans. We have all been there and will all be there again. I have gone to a bunch of Patriots/Bills game in Buffalo. I never rub it in, and people around me have always been nice. I used to root for the Bills or anyone (except the Jets) that came out of the East for the playoffs.
Yeah I just trash teams and really the only two I care to see fail are the Jets and the Patriots.

What an absurd article. Nobody believes Carroll is even in the same league as Belichick, but puh-lease. If Seattle ran the ball there, 9/10 times they score and win the game. They had a timeout sitting there in case they didn't break in.
It was a horrible playcall by Carroll. It's not indicative of Belichick's genius.

The Seahawks are popular as shit and I don't hate them. I've cheered them on in the past two Super Bowls. The Giants have won the World Series three of the last five years, but I don't hate the Giants and don't have to deal with annoying Giants fans all of the time. I don't like Boston sports fans because they frequently display a shitty attitude.

I think people need to realize Montana had much, much better players on his teams than Brady. Montana had 12 offensive pro bowlers on his 4 wins, Brady had 2.

Anyone that wants to bring up the words "system quarterbacK' when it comes to Peyton and Tom, bring it on. I will demolish this argument. It's usually an uniformed Peyton Manning fan who doesn't know jack shit about football offensive systems. That ship has long sailed. That stopped applying to Brady around 2005, and that label has, ironically, better fit Manning ever since.
System quarteback by Manning fans argument is ironically the one thing that proves Peyton Manning isn't as good as Tom Brady. Peyton Manning has played in one system, pretty much his entire career, his. And you can go research this. And anyone that's read about his offense, will know it's actually a pretty simple offense, that is executed to perfection, all credit to him. His offense in Denver, was pretty much the same offense he ran with the Colts with the exception of the last few games this year after Fox tried to add a heavier dose of the run game as soon as BB and the Pats exposed Peyton, once again.
Unfortunately as good as a passer as he is, he gets credit for being an offensive coordinator as well, and that's the area where nobody ever talks about how he is nowhere as good, and very predicatable.
It's actually that fact, the fact he is unable to adapt to any other offensive system that constantly bites Peyton in the ass against BB's defenses or Seattle's defense, or any other good, smart defense in the NFL. He's used it for far too long, and too many coaches know it all too well. He never innovated. When he runs into GREAT, smart, defenses in the playoffs, his offense has gotten exposed time and time again.
The fact Brady has been able to play under a number of different offensive systems, from a run/pass balanced offense in his early years, vertical offense during his Randy Moss years, and now a spread-option inspired Josh McDaniels offense that banks heavily on tight ends, is what destroys the system quarterback argument(truly, you have to be ignorant to still say this if you have watched the Pats offenses change over the years), and what makes Brady the better quarterback. In fact, Brady, at age 37, has began learning how to change his game a little and add scrambling as a weapon. He's not trying to be an offensive coordinator. He lets a guy better than him at that position, Josh, DO THEIR JOB.
The main reason the Pats were so successful this year, and one of the main reasons they are in the Superbowl this year, is because Brady and the Pats have gotten so good at playing in different systems, they are now capable not just of changing offensive styles from year to year, but on a week to week basis. Good luck figuring that out.
Peyton Manning's offense, oth, in Denver, is the same freaking offense he had with the Colts. And it's why he was decimated by Seattle last year, and once again by BB this year. Manning's ego got too big too early in his career, and though he could be as good an offensive coordinator as he is a passer. He was not, and he never got any better at it. And it's cost him. Peyton Manning is in fact the real system quarterback: One system, his.
Oh and finally, if that doesn't do it for you, then how's this: Brady just finished completing 37/50 passes, a Superbowl record, and 4 touchdowns, erasing a 10 point deficit in the 4th quarter, in a Superbowl against the best defense in the NFL the past 3 seasons. Manning's offense got demolished, just one year before by the same defense, 43-8. Manning's system stunk against the same defense Brady carved up like Swiss cheese in the same big game. You would think after it keeps happening to you, it might be time for you to change it and try something else....but even after that, Peyton Manning made no adjustments and played in the SAME system to start off the year this year, only to get demolished again, by BB and the Pats. And when Fox tried to change it up, Peyton failed miserably in it, and it cost Fox his job, and Peyton another chance at the Superbowl.

It's going to be tough to bring in anybody else because of Revis' contract and Devin McCourty is going to get paid this year. If Revis and Wilfork renegotiate, they'll be able to keep all three -- Revis, Wilfork, and McCourty. It sounds as though Revis is willing to renegotiate and stay in New England. Wilfork is going to be asked to take a home-town discount, which he was pissed about when he renegotiated 2 seasons ago (i think it was two..?), so we'll see if he does that again.
Wilfork, unfortunately, is expendable at his price tag. As much as I love him and he typifies these Patriots teams, this is going to be a bad market for an aging DT who has had season ending injuries in the last few years.
Well, obviously, I think all fans talk more about their team when they win versus when they lose. Plus, Patriots fans have had two unsuccessful Super Bowls looming over this team for the last ~7 years. The Patriots are one of the only teams in sports where if you do so much as mention them in a thread, a plurality of people will bring up their 2 recent super bowl losses, as if losing in the super bowl is a worse performance than 30 other teams in the league who either don't make it there, or who don't even make the playoffs. 18-1 is brought up as a criticism of the franchise, and it's brought up by people who are fans of teams who haven't made the playoffs in 10 years. So, naturally, when the Patriots do actually hold on and win, their fans are going to talk back.
Good read, play was mostly a blur, but I didn't realize at the time how NE was really selling out for the run with 8 on the line and Hightower definitely playing run first in the middle, makes the pass play call even less "crazy."
It's also the reason everyone hates the Yankees so much. They tend to win a lot.

It's a delicate mix of persecution complex, arrogance and childishness that I don't see nearly as often from any other fan base.
Speaking as someone who has had to deal with Boston fans since the late 90's I can tell you that Boston fans have been dicks for far longer then two years. I've never see more people thrown out of the stadium for being disruptive assholes then when the Red Sox come into town.
Of course we're not worse, or better. Fans are the same regardless. The only thing that changes really is when you win a lot. Then the expectations of the fans get higher, and the hatred directed at the teams ratchets up. Remember the heroic boys from Boston that vanquished those big meanies from St. Louis?

The no timeout call proves it for me. There was no realistic chance of the Pat's D stopping Seattle from scoring. It was going to happen. Bill and the Defense saw something they knew, and played it to perfection. There no other reason why they wouldn't call the time out, unless you think Bill had given up, and I don't buy that.
Bill explained it perfectly immediately after the game ended. He definitely knew what he wanted to do. As opposed to Pete who stumbled time and time again attempting to explain why his team did what they did.

Right? If Seattle scores, its 30 to 28. Would they risk a 2 point conversion to force pats to Hail Mary for a TD? Or would they play it safe with an extra point kick, and even if Pats get into FG range, they would tie the game up, forcing an OT.
