Super Bunnyhop: Kojima vs. Konami

"Burn to the ground" and continue making MGS games might not contradict each other as George believes.

Its possible that burning it to the ground means just shitting out bad MGS games after Kojima, yearly and bleeding the fanbase dry. And then dumping it off to the highest bidder in 4-5 years.

Its a horror scenario, but i dont believe Konami or this CEO of their will just put a lid on it and let it rot. They will milk it until the cow is sick and dead

Yep, the source obviously meant "they will burn it to the ground by mishandling the IP", the sentence "they don't need KojiPro anymore, they can hire less talented people for cheaper" alludes to that.

As I said in the other thread; They claims are too egregious for me to believe this, or at least believe is exactly as the video claims, especially if they are they only ones able to be tipped off

Nope not really, some real petty shit goes on in Japanese companies. SQEX is pretty famous for it also. And its mainly because they know they can get away with it and there will always be replacements to fill the role.

Ive seen stuff like that before first hand. Other hilarious stuff like a disgruntled programmer trying to sabotage the main game code, then running off before the lawyers / cops could find his ass. Shit that sounds like it belongs in a movie like Office Space but nope its true.

As always bishoptl is free to contact me if he wants to verify the programmer thing.

note to self
act like im in Westeros when becoming a game designer

KojiPro acted largely independent from Konami and often kept them in the dark, which really upset the execs at KJPN. One of the big blows to their relationship was the Game Informer spread for MGSV. Not only did the execs at KJPN had no knowledge that was coming out, and but they also learned details about the game from the article along with everyone else. Which of course pissed them off immensely.

This was a long time coming, unfortunately.

Anyway, this was a wonderful video. Great job, SBH.

Sorry but .. source/need to clarify where you received that info.

Time for everyone to move on. Only thing left to do is decide what to do with all of the old Konami IP's.

I don't think they're going under since they have other businesses and assets. I'm just hoping they decide to auction off some of their stuff like all the Hudson ips.

I know it does happen no doubt.

Im just having trouble believing that those claims are happening to "hundreds of people" and Super Bunnyhop are the only ones able to obtain this level of insider information from just some email inquiries

Wow, a Youtube personality actually investigating, sending out emails and getting sources instead of repeating and making up stuff. Even if not everything turns out true, I'm honestly, non-sarcastically impressed and will sub to this guy.

Yep George is awesome, he also has a degree in journalism, which is why you see him doing stuff like this.

Ironically, the Hudson Soft IPs are probably the most suitable ones for mobile ventures. I'm still amazed that they haven't done anything serious with Bomberman, since I can easily see that working on mobile, albeit in a cynical money-sink way.

The other one that comes to mind would be Metal Gear Acid, and I don't think I need to tell anyone just how easily that one would get fucked up with a mobile mindset, seeing as it's already a card game.

If you get a large number of pissed off folks and when something is happening to that level the chance of info getting out is a lot higher. Not that hard to imagine. Esp with a company as large as Konami and the folks on Kojima's team.

I'm incredibly sad that this actually is all about money. The swift and egregious actions by Konami had me thinking Kojima slept with someone's wife or something, but no, it's just about the bottom line. Unreal.

What's the deal with that Game Informer bit? Did KJPN not know about the scope of the game up until the magazine?

Thats exactly my point, and why Im having trouble believing this. Of course it could be 100% true, but Im extremely skeptical

Someone knows if any of what the source claims is true or not. None of this lies out of the realm of possibility—we haven't seen this big a scenario recently, though, or at least not with so much publicized controversy and distribution of gossip. All I can say is that Irem has done a much better job transitioning into pachislot than Konami is at the moment—they're even generous in loaning their IPs, what a role model. Taking Weidma's source with a grain of salt will help us figure out more, or at least spin wheels in the meantime.

The elephant in the room, for me at least, is how D4 Enterprises recently got access to Konami IPs for digital distribution (globally!) via Project EGG.

Parts of this are true.

Most of it is pure speculation based off the true things.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. This sounds like too much of a "tell the internet what they want to hear, only multiplied by 100" kind of thing to me. All sounds a bit fishy to me.

I'm really not sure I'd agree.

Like...everything the person said is either observable (Konami retracting from the traditional console business, Konami wanting more money out of their Metal Gears -> Ground Zeroes, the "paid demo") or very plausible(the big restuctoring, Kageyama wanting his staff to quit on their own terms -> the Love Plus+ guys leaving a weak before all hell broke loose)

I mean, yes, the eMail is bitter in tone, but there really is zero farfetched or extremely "out there" information in here. Grain of salt and everything, but I wont be surprised if that really is what happened.

Unfortunately, all of this sounds rather believable.

and thats the fucked up part
i could never see this happening to a company like say Platinum, or Nintendo, hell i know for a fact not Sony cause Yoshidas a cool guy
hes friends with Kojima afterall

I had a friend who just started working at Konami a few weeks ago already hitting up every person she knows for a new job. Like, people she BARELY knows.

The whole staff quitting on their own terms is also a very old school Japanese company thing. Since it washes their hands of any legal issues and if said employee does accept those terms and they will still be given references in return when looking for new work.

Speculation or not, most of this is coming to light each week. So you might as well pass it off as true lol. Japanese companies are so cruel >.<

I don't want to identify further. That's just going to cause more issues. But I was surprised when I saw the message on LinkedIn a few weeks back.

I know it's just an exaggeration, but why is it the first thing that always come to people's mind when coming to Kojima's possible crime is adultery ^^; ? I mean, is he really that much of a big dick G?

I really wish Kojima could just get a group of people/investors together and try to buy the Metal Gear IP from Konami (and maybe Silent Hill as well).
The amount of money would be so high that only a few players in the game industry could pay it, and I doubt none of them would put up with kojima bs.

There is no risk of the company going under, but they may sell off dormant IP's or those that could fetch a good price.

Has this youtuber been reliable with his anonymous sources in the past? This sounds kind of hard to believe.

The video says that the information could not be verified so I'd take it as nothing but rumor at this point.

If I was Konami and I was shutting down the MGS franchise.I would DEFINITELY not say I was going to do that until MGS5 comes out and sells. Later down the line is when you can release that kind of information.

From looking at their website, it just seems that they are using at least a couple of those IPs for slots and other gambling gaming machines.

My guess is that they will fold at least some of those IPs into their gambling machines.

Understandable, but If she works like in the Konami Gaming, Inc side of things, I dont see why she would be concerned with her job. unless she is looking to leave the Konami because of perceived company ethos

I'll need to watch after work, but reading that summary gave me chills.

Mad King Targaeryan at work, but I hope Kojima sues after MGSV. Not for vindication for gamers spurned by company actions (that would be selfish of us to disregard the good work Konami gave us a decade ago), but for actively creating a hostile work environment and ruining people's lives when they're forced to quit.

Kagemasa wants to get into gambling? Let him know how it feels to lose everything.

someone said the CEO is 75 years old
so yea
old people definately love to hold a grudge and are insane enough to do something like that article says

I do wonder though, what makes Konami to keep their gamesbusiness? Is their main business not in different markets nowadays?

So Is it not more attractive for them to sell of their ip's while they are still worth some major buck? It is not like they seem pressed to give gaming a lot of attention nor do they seem pressed to deliver quality products.

Well he may be crazy, but all this nonsense aside I got to respect a dude who created a company like Konami with his own hands.
Too bad the department I've been a fan of is running to ground, whoever is responsible for that.

Im surprised that the father still runs everything since I would have thought his 2 sons would have taken over by now. Looks like one son is the President though, dont see info on the other. At least I thought I heard he had 2 sons?

Honestly, it could boil down to a "Why spend 5 years making a AAA game when we can profit 100x on mobile games in 6 months?"

And if so, this won't be the last company to make such a drastic shift.

Its more throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks with mobile gaming. Which means a lot of wasted resources in the mean time if it does not take off. Which is why you see games come and go like nothing and why so many titles seem to be so similar to each other.

More than likely keep the IPs for brand recognition on their slot machines, and mobile games, Im guessing

To those other than we Neo gaf posters, If walking in the casino, and I see a big picture of Metal Gear or Contra, Im more than likely going to use that machine if I played video games enough to recognize them.
