Super Mario 3D Land Commercials (Japan)

The game movement is very slow, doesn't look like it's 60FPS either.

So slow :/

Vanille said:
There's a fine line between acceptably slow and painfully slow, and this game has crossed it.

It's not a meme if it's true.

"This game is too slow"
"There is a run button"
"Look how slow Mario is!"
"There is a run button"
"Man so slow. Mario ruined forever"
"There is a run button"

So guys, what I'm trying to tell you, is that this game is so slow it will probably cause Nintendo to go third party.

The speed of this endeavor appears to be lacking.
Is there an input device that will have the effect of increasing the acceleration?

Oblivion said:
Seems like kind of an artificial way to make the game faster, don't you think?

That's about as quick as Mario gets in the 3D starfinder games but it's still way too slow compared to the 2D sidescrollers...
Still miles ahead than that Sunshine thingy.

Oh and the 1rst commercial with the JapanaMario is the only one that gets a reaction from me.

I heard there was a Zelda reference in this game for the 25th anniversary, I think I figured it out, Mario is wearing the iron boots for the games duration ha ha ha!
seriously thought there is a Zelda like stage or something right?

I also love the main theme, I really like how it ends.
Would have killed for an orchestra version of it :(
It sounds quite different in one of the videos posted yesterday. I was wondering if parts of the track had been orchestrated, as it sounded a lot deeper and some instruments seemed much more authentic.

I guess that cube stage with the Mii face has something to do with spotpass?

'In the street pass room, pick up items you have received through streetpassing in the street to help in your adventure'. Or something.

Street.

So, everyone in this thread is like

?

fun facts :
Mario sidescrollers (especially Mario 1/3 & 4) are actually nearly as fast Classic Sonic games which were waaaaaaaaay slower than the garbage we get now that are called Sonic games (yes I'll buy that Sonic colors now that it's 20 bucks, I know that it's good).

Next to Paper Mario, this was the game that sold me a 3DS. So I definitely am looking forward to this one next month.

Mario 3D Land is not a 2D side-scroller though. I don't know why you keep comparing it to them.

Because they basically said they merged the 2D Mario with the 3D Mario game in the making of this one....and it's the 3rd time now they're trying to pull the 2D sidescroller people into playing a 3D Mario game.
Read the interviews, they made Galaxy 1 & 2 with that in mind (hence the 2D sections in both games) and they're doing it again by basically scrapping the health system and putting a flagpole at the end like in the sidescroller games.

This game is meant to be a 3D sidescroller of sort.

Yeah, it is a 3D side-scroller and because of that it still has 3D elements, those elements wouldn't be possible if you moved as fast as in a 2D Mario. Well they would but they would be incredibly difficult and frustrating.

Nor really concerned by the slow discussion. My difficulties to be hyped for the game are more for an aesthetic matter...

Sames old musics, same old models, assets... Nintendo just made Mario something automatic and sterile... It's like a new mario is just an add on with new levels now, in the same endless visuals...

Plus this one is worse cause it's so focused on platforms (which is good for gameplay, don't misunderstand me)... It's like they finally assumed the "gameplay against art" or "gameplay against storytelling" totally, making a game where you barely have a background anymore.

Some people must find this direction completely legitimate to what should be a Mario i guess, but you know me, i like my videogame to make me believe in some world, to have some life... This Mario feels like it's all special unlockable levels only based on challenge, which should be great for the gameplay for sure.. But it's a little sad somewhere.

New Mario Bros Wii already felt like they let the level designers design the game completely. Mario could be totally iconographic at this point, no need for any wonderful and immersive childish world i guess...

It has a lot in common with the 2D Mario games. A lot, like, right down to the core design.

But people really shouldn't be worried about the speed, for two reasons. Firstly, as mentioned a thousand times over, there is a run button. How this run speed looks relative to other Mario games is completely irrelevant, as it feels very fast in the context of this game. And the second reason is just that; context. Its easy to look at videos and go "oh this is too slow", but when you're actually playing, interacting with the game world, and forced to take into account Mario's speed and pace of the game, it doesn't feel slow. The speed feels just right.

Well part of what makes sidescroller Mario so much better than 3D starfinder is how the character moves so fast and react so quickly making it a split second action game.
That is lost in this and the others 3D mario games.
So yeah when they promise something that is as fun as 2D Mario they better start by getting the basics right first.

I'm not saying it's not fun, I'm saying it's LESS fun.

Can anyone tell me what this is and have any pictures of it? The site seems to be under stress and either doesn't load or is taking forever to load. Figured someone would mention it but all I see are "WANT" posts.

Ha, that's funny. Picture loads after I post. Disregard. :P

Well, if anyone else can't see the picture here it is...

People complaining about it being slow sure are not much fans of Gears of War series.

u_u

Neither are they of many of this generation FPS's....

Did I miss the announcement where Super Mario 3D Land is a 3rd person shooter?

Yes. It has an overhead view with many rooms, and you light torches, solve puzzles, and navigate room to room, 2D Zelda style. In fact, I think the gif posted above is part of the Zelda level:

I didn't really think much of bringing back the run button, but combining run and powers makes it as classic as original 2D games. This is the first 3D Mario since SM64 that Mario has been able to freely fight enemies (vs. with FLUDD, Starbits, or timed Power-ups in later games), and the first 3D Mario at all to have the traditonal 2D power-ups (Mushroom, Fire Flower).

I don't know if I like everything about the game, but I can't fault them for reworking the 3D Mario to try and make it even better

Im optimistic, but not enough to get this game before Mario Kart. However I look forward to trying the demo I think they promised. I dont like the new theme so much personally.

The videos aren't blowing me away which is the first time that has ever happened to me when seeing a new Mario platformer game. However, I've loved every single Mario game (including Sunshine) so I'm sure this one won't let me down.

Boomerang suit... oh man. I need this. o_o

This game looks really fun though. Hopefully I'll still remember it whenever Zelda's 2 or 3 days away. Or a week. Whatever. I still don't really remember the exact release dates for some reason.
