I don't understand the worries about the graphics, guys.
You don't remember how Galaxy looked in images: lots of jaggies everywhere... but then, poetry in motion.
3D Land will not be poetic as Galaxy, but graphically they're nearer than you think. Really.
For most of things they're equal, IMHO.
Based on these images and the footage I've seen... let's just say I think you could do with an eye test. ;)

Looking at the game still makes me feel claustrophobic.

But since the name change I can kinda appreciate that somewhat. The Mario Land games (well, Mario Land 2 at least) also had that confined feeling. So it makes sense that they are going after it in this game too...

the levels they've chosen to demo at press events give me the opposite feeling

Yeah, I was kind of like "is that it?" after playing at E3... marked contrast to Galaxy's debut.

Amir0x is gonna be so confused when he tries collecting the coin in this screenshot.
Being a person who can't see 3D, screens like that actually make me want to not play the game. It's going to be an annoying ride... Especially because those camera angles are not even beneffiting the gameplay. It's just a way to make the 3D effect look cool.

I didn't have that reaction to Galaxy personally. It's one of the best looking Wii games, both in person and in screens.

Experiencing the game is secondary to being able to say that you never gave in to the evil third dimension.

You can see them in 3D if you browse this page with your 3DS. Just click the thumbnails. You can even save them to the photo viewer in 3D. There is also the previous batch of shots in 3D.

There are also 3D shots for about 20 other games. Some are watermarked but it's great for a quick 3D view.

I've actually been to that site before but I didn't think these would be up so soon!

Normal parallax of moving objects means that stuff like this won't disrupt gameplay at all. Sure, it's hard to tell where it is in this screenshot, but when the camera's moving there won't be any issues.

Close one eye and move your head around. Is there anything at all that you can't tell whether it's in front of or behind another object?

Heck, even intentionally tricky areas like this (which can only be tricky due to a locked camera angle, mind you) have giant buttons that let you change the perspective so you can tell what's where even in 2D mode!

Nobody will have any trouble with this game.

Holy crap. I'm not sure I want this game anymore if they're purposely making it impossible to play in 2D.

Potential GOTY. Yes, even with Skyward Sword out in the same month.
They are actually releasing on the same day in Europe. And not even one million facepalms could express the magnitude of Nintendo Europe's stupidity for doing so.

Well Nintendo did say when the game was first announced (As Super Mario 3D and those four pics) that the game was being designed to specifically take advantage of 3D.
I'm interested in seeing how successful they actually are with that claim.

The camera is moving left and right. It will be easy to see. In fact I think it's obvious that it's directly above the Goomba and you have to bounce on his head to get to it.

Love me some locked camera platforming.
Love me some skewed camera vantage points.
Love me some laser focus on a gimmick to change it into a real boy.

Gona love me some 3d Land.

*Yawn* Okay, I think basically what it is is that you show Mario and then right after that we showed Rayman, and just the difference in graphics and just adult nature of Rayman...the graphics were beautiful.

what's up with the confined areas concern? this game is a 3D platformer asthetically designed as a 2D mario game so of course some of the locals will be confined. there are however more open areas as shown in the tgs trailer during iwata's speech. for some reason I feel like the people who are complaining about the confined areas haven't seen this trailer

Is this sentence a sense making one?

Yup, that's my main problem with Mario these days. The games are brilliant, that's not even in question, but they could maybe do a different art-style? This looks like basic Mario. It's better than NSMB though, that looked bland as hell. Mario World looked like Mario but with an edge, Yoshi's Island looked like a storybook, but after that they started playing it too safe.

Needs to look like this instead.

Well I agree. After playing Rayman 3D..letÂ’s be honest, there are no other action-platformers out thereÂ…that is the only game out there for people who like action-platformers. I mean, I guess Mario 3D Land, but Mario 3D Land feels like its aimed so much for kids. Whereas that is like for everyone, but you feel like youÂ’re not being insulted when playing it as an adult.

Hmm, not getting the "graphics concern" myself. I mean, that first screenshot, of Tanooki Mario racing along a pier, looks pretty awesome to me. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this one. Now I just have to buy a 3DS :P

It does show bigger worlds, but only to the scale those found in SMG2. They still look linear, and even worse, they look like they are made of blocks.

People are setting themselves up for failure in my honest opinion. It's a portable Mario game. Even with the inclusion of 3D I don't expect it to be as expansive as sm64 or even smg for that matter.

Both Galaxy games were largely linear, and structurally similar to the awesome void levels in Sunshine or Bowser levels in 64. This looks like basically the same thing.

mostly like what i see so far. the galaxy games i recognize as being competently designed, but, for a number of reasons, i just don't find them very enjoyable to play. if 3d land can offer a more focused, streamlined challenge -- bravo.

kind of agree with some folks in here re: the 3d. it's one thing if the 3d improves the design in place, it's another thing if the game has sections purposefully designed for 3d. obviously, it'll be playable in 2d mode, but you can just sniff the 'HAHA YOU DON'T HAVE 3D TOGGLED; JOKE'S ON YOU' level design/item placement from the media nintendo's shown. that kind of novelty would wear off immediately.

All the things I want in Mario. Linear, block-like levels.

the secret stages in Sunshine were some of the best 3D Mario platforming sections.

They wouldn't have been half as good with a run button.
