Super Mario Run |OT| Dash, Jump, Switch

They knew what they were doing, classic bait and switch with "free" titles

It's not bait and switch, it's the only way they have available to offer a demo of the content before purchase. If anyone is to blame, it's Apple for not allowing official product demos. The only other option is to not have any demo, make it an up-front purchase, and hope that people will drop $10 on the game anyway.

The Player ID's are just an alternative way to add friends for folks who don't want to use social media. Like Miitomo, the primary way to add friends is by linking to Facebook and Twitter.

It's not the only option to add people. You can also link your Facebook/Twitter account, or send personal invites via email or message.

Oh thank god.

That's the reason you're depriving yourself of this? If you don't enjoy the core gameplay, yeah, that makes sense, but numerical IDs for adding specific friends you don't have on social media makes this too much to bear?

Well now that I know it's not the only way to add people, I'm cool with it. But yeah, I hate the numeric addition. Just let me create a username or something.

Also, I don't have an iOS device (at the moment), so I can't play it anyway.

They trust their customers, they don't trust their non-customers.

Which is why DRM/always online stuff is so nonsensical. They aren't getting the noncustomer's money either way. Yet the always online stuff will keep some people who otherwise would be customers from buying.

The music industry figured this out and came up with other ways to monetize their content on top of traditional album and song sales. Other media are lagging behind.

My main reason of not purchasing it at $10 is due to never truly owning it. If the servers go off, then I can't play. Sure it's Nintendo and t won't likely occur, but I won't support that practice.

Just do a one time verification that the Apple ID owns it and disable that online crap.

Game is excellent otherwise though.

I've been playing this for over an hour, and I've only gotten the green coins on 2 levels. Pretty sure I'm going to get my $10 worth and then some out of this.

The game crashes after a few seconds every time I try starting it, never gets past the "Nintendo" red screen, it just boots me back to the home screen.

Running on an iPad Mini 2 fully updated with a strong Wifi connction.

If there's no fix soon I'm just going to go back to Rayman Fiesta Run and spend my money on something else.

Was that iPad ever jail broken? Even if it's not currently, apps can still detect it and crash.

Kind of enjoyed gathering the hidden coins in the demo levels. Really appreciate that there are different 'tiers' of hidden coins to discover and the stages alter slightly to account for added challenge on collecting them with each completion. Really wish this was a feature in other Mario games, a great way to promote replayability and add extra challenge.

Not sold on the $10 price though as I just found myself kind of bored of it by the end of 1-3. They were very smart about translating Mario to the iPhone, but I just kind of don't care either. I also rarely play anything on my phone ever. Still would love for the coin challenges to come to future Mario titles.

Anyone tried sharing the game with the family? Is it possible for someone to download the game and have access to all the game on another iPhone, with another Apple ID?

the best one so far

"i've waited MONTHS for this and now they make me pay $10 for #SuperMarioRun. go fuck yourself nintendo"

this guy was so hyped for this but he ain't forking over 10 bucks lmao.
mobile will stay a wasteland if those guys are in the majority.

the green coins are no joke. i almost wish you could just skip over the purple tier because at least in the early levels they dont feel that different from the pink ones in challenge.

Bought it. First game I've bothered to purchase on mobile. Mario as Mario gets, coin runs are fun.

Kingdom builder and toad rally working off each other is good, no idea how to get different colour toads though? Anyone know?

The price isn't that much, don't get why people are complaining >_>

When you clear a world's castle you add more levels to toad rally, and the toads you get are based on level. The grassland only ones you start with are red only, and completing the first worlds adds an overworld stage with red/green toads, a cave stage with red/blue toads, and a castle stage with all three.

The legend!

Yeah it did. Try deleting the app and rebooting. Other than that, not sure 😕
Still nothing. :(

Lame, but I guess I can just wait a bit for it to come to Android on my S7 edge, which will probably be better than playing on my bigger iPad Mini 2 anyways. At least then I'll have my cell network to play it out of the house.

Really????

That's... weird. Plus the fact that you don't think it's weird to expect extra game content for free? Do you understand how these games are made? Specially the ones that don't have microtransactions? The developer needs to pay their expenses too. Sympathizing with that is fucking weird.
Yes really. It's a game with pretty visuals. That's it.

Please, don't goddamn talk down to me about game development. I understand how it works, and I also understand that consumers aren't exactly foreign to the idea of free expansions or additions later on. Did I expect free content? Nope. Wouldn't have cared either because I never would go back to the game anyways. Do I sympathize with people who felt like they didn't get their money's worth and hoped to have it maximized later on? Sure.

I feel the same way. In all honesty $10 is reasonable and I don't think it's overpriced in the least, but it might not work in a decade.

This game is polished.

Endless runner made me almost not get it.

But it isn't like an endless runner at all. There is a ton of stuff in here. Pokemon Go is an embarrassment by comparison.

Added a bunch of people, feel free to add me: 6587-1405-7422

Completed all the levels with the first stars done, gotta got through again and grab the next set. Really enjoying Rally though and up to ~500 toads and expanded to my second area. Worth the $10 already though for me.

the third tier of coins look black on the level select screen but dark green in the levels so Ive been kind of referring to them as both interchangeably.

LOL they're freaking black coins, the game calls them that. Stop confusing people lolol

I freakin love Toad Rally... the quick competitive face off is just so addicting.

I hope a similar type of mode hits the switch version of 2d Mario.
