Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Got my plexi and art for my V.S. stick. Waiting on cherry switch buttons and clear plungers so I can add in the rest of the button art and I am just about done.

Already dualmodded with Phreakmod's Cerebrus board. This is very much inspired by the new MadCatz Tekken Tag 2 TE-S with the broken glass art. I had an epiphany with finally getting a decent compilation of Bruce Lee artwork together without making it look weird and off because majority of Bruce Lee photos online are low resolution and poorly scanned or watermarked.

I'm not a huge Bruce Lee guy, but that is some awesome artwork. Nicely done. I love that it's sort of a hybrid of the new Tekken stick "shatter" artwork, with that awesome Namco color scheme.

Seriously, nice work.

I think the KOFXIII design will be my introduction to arcade stick ownership. Definitely, I think.

Hi! :p
Dumb question, but...
I recently got the "Mortal Kombat Klassic Fight Stick".
(As posted on the November pick-up thread)
And adding this too...
Wanted that stick for a long time..kinda forgot about it, then searching around, only like 5 Gamestop had it and each only had 1.

The stick is everything I wanted, since for years I tried/bought others but always felt "weird" as if I wasn't playing like I did in the arcades. Wasn't aware of the one little detail about Suzo-Happ stick/buttons. :p

In any case, I have it on PS3. I'm aware both versions are wired, but what I'm wondering is: what is the safest way to plug/unlug it through USB?
I left it always plugged to one of the USB ports, but that made it the default controller 1; so when I had to play with the DualShock I had to reassign the controller everytime to #1; otherwise couldn't play.

Can I unplug the USB cable at any time or recommended with the PS3 turned off?
What I recently did, was just leave the USB cable plugged, so that it doubles as a charging cable for the PS3 controller and whenever I want to play a fighting game I just plug the stick to the mini-USB. But I still feel "weird" about it, or the times I just removed the cable with the console turned on.

You shouldn't worry about it at all. USB is physically designed to be hot-pluggable (ground pins are longer than the data pins so the grounds are the first to make contact when inserted and the last to lose contact when disconnected).

If I were to pick up an arcade stick now (looking at a Mctz), do you guys think it would work on a next gen console or would I have to buy another then? Wondering if I should get one now or when the new consoles release, using a pad right now.
This is hard to say. If nothing else there will be converters you can use.

Are these any good?
At that price? Yes. You'll have to replace the parts with Sanwa/Seimitsu before long if not immediately. But even after replacing everything the total cost would only be ~$70.

If you want a larger TE-style stick FS Pros and SC5 sticks are only $90 right now, very good deal. http://store.gameshark.com/listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=479

Awesome, thanks man.

I posted this in the Project DIVA thread last night. Not strictly an arcade stick, but I recall Yes Boss was interested and figure a general heads up can't hurt:

Heads up: looks like the Project DIVA F large controller is going into production. It will be released on March 7, 2013 (giving more credibility to that being the game's release date). Hori will be accepting preorders on their site until December 6.

You can also order at Play-Asia. They are also listing the mini controller.

Very cool,

Was looking at the Hori japan site yesterday to see if it was actually being made but it looked like it wasn't.

Good on the play-asia links. Will be buying both. March is a very good timeframe for me. From a Hori perspective, I'm actually a bit more interested in the smaller version since it is a totally new form-factor.

Now, wonder if the game is actually good? I'm guessing so since there is that big thread. Probably order the (extremely pricey) Vita game in the next month or two to check it out.

Placed the order Mikus. Looks like shipping is just under $100 for the big one. Fedex for both is about $110. I had to go with EMS since I had to ship to my PO BOX, so $50 more :-(

Exite! Something to look forward to for spring.

Curious if folks are going to do their ASotY again?

I've got an idea at which stick is my favorite for the year but I'm still waiting for the new Vewlix and the two Wii U sticks to arrive to decide.

So since the Wii U TE is essentially a classic controller, I assume people can use a Mayflash Classic Controller adapter and use the stick on PS3 and PC as well? :p

Sorry, it is a requirement. However as mentioned, yes if you get the adapter you can get it to work on PS3.

Anyone get the design throwback from the Wii U version?

BTW,

Got an email from Arcade Shock that the Diamonds are going to be shipping earlier than planned. Get your order in...this is THE stick to get. Just recently got back to my VLX after a few years, holy shit is that a stick that is in a class of its own. Diamond is going to be mind-blowing. I did not even realize the front was metal...now the brushed finish on the Diamond makes total sense.

Sticks I'm most excited about now: Diamond and Wii U Hori Tekken.

Could not figure out the "throwback" either. It is the same color scheme as the PS3 version. I'm hoping we get the femme plate for the Wii U version, make it look a little better. MC site makes no mention of it.

Don't sell that :-(

That is a better stick than the new Diamond. Diamond is only PS3. That ain't good for nothing and hard to duel-mod. Under Defeat and that is it. EX-SE is still the best stick out there.

It's the throwback to the original TE stick. Black/White case. This is the first time we're using 'S' white sides too.

Ah,

I see.

Well I'm gonna get one. Just gotta put in the order on Friday. Broke till payday. It will go nice with the Hori from Japan. Been a bit since I got a new stick.

Speaking of OG TE, I dug up an old painted original TE (white sides are black now) and gonna make that into an MK stick. Gonna order that MK face plate, still is available.

Hope I don't end up regretting it, but took advantage of Eightarc sale to grab a stick.

Having one stick to rule them all will be nice, I just hope it's not the clusterfuck that my MAS Systems stick was back in the day.

Eightarc sticks are very good quality and they have really excellent customer service in my experience in case anything is wrong.

Thanks to the Instagram and gaming thread I had fun with the program today and took some pics of a portion of my arcade sticks. These sticks all go back to three and four years...they've been in storage for for that long. I hope you enjoy! Some good sticks going back to when companies really ramped it up. Was a lot of fun putting together:

I am a casual-casual-casual shmup and fighting game player (I'm probably better at shmups, but not good compared to most of the people in this thread), but I want a modded-stick so I can play fighting games on the PS3 with my friends and my shmup collection on the 360. From what I understand, it's much easier to dual-mod a 360 stick than a PS3 one, and knowing me I'll buy a 360 stick and never get around to modding it, thus defeating the purpose of getting one to play with my friends. Is the Qanba Q4 a good choice for someone like me? From what I've read, they are comparable to MadCatz TE sticks.

If it makes a difference, I'm bad enough at fighting games where I often have trouble getting inputs right, so that may impact the type of stick that I want to use.

Also, if I do buy a Qanba, is it worth getting a clear panel with it? I'd want Guilty Gear or some sort of Cave art on there, but I don't know if templates are readily available for Qanbas.

There's also the option to buy the 360 stick you want and a Mayflash universal adapter. That's the route I chose, since the adapter lets me use my 360 MLG controller, my Hori Fighting Edge, and my MadCatz TE with my PS3.

-----

New project: think I'm going to grab one of the TvC sticks and mod it with Sanwa parts. Already have the OBSF 30s, just need to get a Sanwa stick & balltop. Might try an octogonal gate with this one. Excited!

And another question: I wonder if you can plug a Mayflash Classic Controller adapter into a Mayflash Universal adapter and have it work on 360?

Thanks for the suggestion. If I don't care about the existing art on either stick, is there any advantage that a Qanba or a TE/Fightstick Pro + adapter have over the other?

I haven't used a Qanba, so can't opine on pros/cons other than price (today someone is selling new "cross" style SFxT sticks for $101 on amazon) and versatility of the adapter.

Cool!

It was fun to put together. Kinda started adding some arcade stuff at the end cause I was having fun but I think it all fits the theme. I tried to make it as arcade-stick porn as I could! It was actually a good opportunity to recheck out some of the older sticks. There was a perfect, never-used, first-run TE in there and I was blown away by its style. I think that one is bonafide classic even if the Namco stick is MC's best effort. One for the books. Just wish I had all my others to add. Should be getting another 10-15 from Germany (including a bunch of my prized Hori SEs) on Thursday so look for those as I put them up. Diamond Vewlix gone be in there shortly!

Also, got a kick out of the email amazon.jp sent me. What the fuck is that shit!
