Super Smash Bros 4 DLC: 5 more characters spaces found in 3DS Files

Relevancy is a fallacious argument. I'm sure many people thought they were "phasing out" Dixie before she appeared in Tropical Freeze. Or how about Ganondorf? He hasn't appeared in a mainline Zelda title since 2006. But that doesn't matter, because he has seniority. Bullshit. The fact that people are still voting for K. Rool despite the fact that he hasn't appeared in years proves that relevancy doesn't matter. This is a ballot, not a "Sakurai picks and chooses which characters are relevant" contest. Do you think he's going to add Lord Fredrik over K. Rool even though he's probably received zero votes? Retro Studios wanted to leave their own mark on the series, which is perfectly acceptable. They've done a fantastic job. However, almost everybody seems to agree that their villains leave a lot to be desired. Hell, their CEO is following the Kremling Kampaign on Twitter. I will close my account if they make another DKC game without K. Rool in it. The return of the Kremlings seems inevitable at this point.

Oh snap!

I would love K Rool to be in, it's just a shame his fans are so militant and insufferable. It would actually bug me that the guy who made a YouTube video where he had a mental breakdown over how much he loved K Rool and hated Sakurai would get his way.

Needless to say, I've been spending every waking moment of the past month or so voting for Lord Frederick on as many IP addresses as possible. He should be in the top 5 by now, and we have until the fall.

I think Ryu would be a fantastic idea. I'd also love to have Simon Belmont and all the amazing Castlevania music that goes along with that.

A Street Fighter stage and Castlevania stage would be a welcome edition. I'd also like to see the Wind Waker level make a return as well as Corneria.

Not so sure about that. I'd think that the types of people playing smash casually that don't know the majority of the roster also wouldn't know who Ryu is.

If we ever get some sort of DLC sales numbers for smash I'd expect Mewtwo to be the best selling since there's not many characters they can release that are more recognizable than him.
To be honest, I forgot about Mewtwo since I was thinking about future DLC. There's a history of the best-selling DLC characters in fighting games being the least embraced/requested by the community, like Freddy Krueger in Mortal Kombat and Scorpion in Injustice. Street Fighter is a very popular series, even among casual gamers, so I'm sure most Smash Bros. players know who he is. He'll certainly outsell Lucas and Roy, and I'm sure he'd outsell the "popular" vote getters like K. Rool or Isaac.

Scorpion wasn't requested for Injustice, & his inclusion was even questioned by fans.

That's what I said. Scorpion was the least embraced DLC character, but he sold the best. There's always going to be a disconnect between a game's online community and the mass market.

This is also weird to me. I love video games just as much as anyone else, but I've never felt hugely attached to any individual character. Like... K. Rool shows up for a few minutes at the end of the Donkey Kong Country games. Why would anyone have a mental breakdown over him? It's okay if you simply like a character or the games they appear in, but there's a disturbing amount of people vehemently pushing a false agenda about their "favorite character." I have the Chorus Kids in my avatar, and I'd like to play as them, but I don't plan on making stump speeches anytime soon.

Yep, I really hope that it would work out for most of fans.
As long as one of these characters gets added:
- King K. Rool
- Snake
- Krystal (if she shows up at E3)
- Isaac
- Dixie Kong
- Inklings IF they aren't added as blatant promotion fodder for Splatoon

I'm fine with Mewtwo, Wolf, Lucas, Ryu, Roy, and whoever from one of the above is picked. I do think we'll get more thought; I'm of the opinion that the six characters we see are planned beforehand with two to three ballot characters being added.
Why do people keep saying King K. Roll is likely based on the ballot?
Because there are good reasons to believe that he probably will be the most wanted Nintendo newcomer for the game and while I don't see this as a ticket towards the roster, it most definitely will give him strong consideration for being added.

You have a very liberal definition of militant. And it's very ironic coming from you, of all people. Why not respond to me directly instead of being so passive aggressive?

What reasons? I'm not opposed to him getting in, I just feel like I missed something here.

If we are predicting the final two characters how about

-New Star Fox character (if there is any new characters in Star Fox U)
-Another Kong (They could choose from five or six easily)

My apologies, I misread your post.

The Star Fox character is likely gonna be Wolf. As for the DK character, I'd say King K. Rool seeing as he's one of the more popular requests right now for the ballot.

They wouldn't do the poll to begin with if that was the case. I truly believe that the ballot will factor into things, though it'll probably only be for one character now & will likely impact the roster for Smash 5 as well.
Yes they would still do a poll, having people talk about smash and making them feel their opinions matter.

Unless youve seen the poll results so far I dont see why youre spreading lies.

I'm pretty sure we're getting at least one character from the ballot, the way it was advertised in the Nintendo Direct a few weeks back indicated that it was gonna play a role in Smash 4's DLC.

Not lies, it's based on estimates that have come out. Although not entirely accurate, they do paint a decent picture of how the ballot is likely gonna turn out.

I wasn't talking about you, I was thinking of someone who got banned back in the summer :)

And (at least in Smash Boards, where I think his biggest fan base is), don't his fans consider themselves to be part of some sort of "Army" or "Force"?

As far as ballots go, I think Sakurai will honour it as much as he can. Sure he may still ignore Ridley, and will continue to ignore Goku, but I don't really see him ignoring King K. Rool or Isaac just because they haven't had a game super recently. I think the point of the ballot is to follow what the fanbase wants.

I think there are a few implied rules, like you're not going to see Master Chief getting into Smash any time soon.

Also there's only room for 10 characters on the Wii U, and that's being really aggressive with how it's scaled.

And you have the 2gb reserved space on the 3DS that they probably won't go over.

Also RIP Gonzo in 2-3 years

We've seen a DLC menu for character select in the 3DS game's data, haven't we?

I'm running out of space on my 2GB SD card that came with the 3ds. Was thinking of buying a new sd card but if I buy a new 3DS it comes with one, so not sure which route to pursue.

I don't know why people want a villain like K. Rool instead of Dr. Robotnik. Yeah, Robotnik has been in far more terrible games, but as a character he's still just way better. And it gives Sonic another rep. (Again, not a fan of Sonic, I'm just a bit bewildered at the K. Rool fervor).

...heck put Wiley in there instead of K. Rool. I mean, if we need a cool villain.... there's no shortage of good ones....

Now I want Lord Fredrik really badly. Or Tiki Tong. Or that evil Zookeeper version of Mario from Donkey Kong Jr.

Not to mention he could basically be a Bowser Jr. clone and I'd be fairly happy. (+ Wrecking Ball final smash)

Yeah, I was thinking that. He could be a second vehicle-based character. Or he could be on-foot using weapons and stuff (or whatever he does), and then for his final smash, little animals could come and build a vehicle around him and he could tear sht up. He has more history than K. Rool. I'm just surprised people aren't voting for characters like him if they want another villain.

K. Room would fall under "irrelevant" characters.

It's clear they're phasing K. Rool and the Kremlings out of the Donkey Kong series. We certainly won't be seeing K. Rool playable in Smash Bros.

That's exactly why the Kremlings showed up in Smash Run for the first time since 2008?

I'm so sick of hearing irrelevancy as an excuse K. Rool won't get in. There's reasons why, but that isn't one. Stop this.

Well to be honest I don't want Robotnik because another Sonic character in general is just bleh. And undoubtedly Sega would want them to use the lame "Eggman" modern version.

I generally agree, but most series involved in SSB need at least one antagonist. It can't just be good guys fighting each other. :P

That's true I guess, and I'd rather him than Dixie honestly. In terms of villains though... Mario and Zelda have one, I guess Pokemon does now with Mewtwo (though he's not REALLY evil... canonically).

Who else?

Wolf
Medusa/Hades
Ridley (won't happen ever)
K. Rool

Yeah there's not really much choice as villains go.

I just want wield a multi purpose blunderbuss as a fat pirate croc, apparently that's just too much to ask.
Watch him actually get in and ignore the blunderbuss entirely, I'd be gutted.

I guess I'll just never understand what about K. Rool it is that's so interesting.

General reasons for K Rool:

  • The game needs more villain/antagonist characters, and DK and Metroid are the only major franchises in the game to not have an antagonist playable
  • DK Series only has 2 characters currently, it really could have some more representation; K Rool is a more interesting additional character than another one of the Kongs would be
  • He's an interesting, or at least different, character for the game in general from a visual perspective (Crocodile)
  • He's been a King, a Pirate, and a Mad Scientist...which can lead to lots of interesting and fun moves that haven't been seen in the game yet

There are a few villains to choose yet.

Fawful
Captain Syrup
Wolf
King K. Rool
Ganon
Dark Samus
Medusa
Porky

Wolf's probably happening, Fawful and Syrup are probably too obscure.

Ridley > Dark Samus
Hades > Medusa

Overall I'd agree there are plenty of villain options to choose from though...we just need them to happen.

Some choices in Brawl and Smash 4 have definitely helped. But we're still not quite there.

Given the fact that Wolf is one of the characters people cried fowl for over his removal (like Lucas) on top of the fact that Star Fox U is coming, Wolf is most likely one of the two.

...Yes, I know. Doesn't mean that I have to be happy that they seem to be devoting much of the DLC development to characters I've already played as.

I'm fine with it. Heck, I'm glad that they are bringing back those characters.

Would you not prefer to play as someone entirely new, though? I mean, I've already played as Lucas, Roy, Mewtwo and Wolf in previous games. I wish they'd spend the time and cash required to develop these characters on new characters with new movesets, personally.

Honestly, unless they significantly redevelop the characters, I'm not interested in buying Wolf or Roy. Particularly Roy- what a half-hearted choice that is.

Take turns looking at it on the Wii U Game Pad

That's... not user friendly or possible at all. Tournaments often don't even have a game pad around.

This is more than 10 characters we're talking about. They're never going to hit that though, so it's not worth thinking much about.

Anyway, Ryu is actually at a lesser index than Lucas. Which means he was probably worked on before Lucas. Which means Ryu might actually be done or at least at the same place Lucas is at.

Because Donkey Kong is under represented in Smash and I'd rather have more Nintendo characters then third party ones.
