Awesome news if they're not just screwing with us... but it is EB, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt. And a lot of alcohol.

Thats the most photoshopped Wi-fi logo ever! It totally looks so wrong..and bright.

edit:It seems its just because of the small image that it looks photoshopped.

It opened for me..the WiFi logo is present. :D

I don't get why EB would add that on their own, unless they hope to wrangle more pre-orders by promising a feature not in the game. Though, I have no idea if that's even legal.

Maybe it's not and they're hoping no one will notice.

The WiFi logo looks about the same in quality as the ESRB rating to me...
It's not the quality of the logo, it's the placement. I know they generally go in that corner, but it's covering up some of Pit, and that seems like an odd think to do for a box art.

That's one of my main beefs with this being a real box. The Wifi logo just doesn't fit.

they have yet to unveil the most menacing and powerful characters in smash brothers: Crate, Barrel and Party Ball

That is true, but with as much goodness on the front of the box as there is, something will probably have to be covered up a little bit by the logo. That is, unless they put the logo in a completely weird spot.

That's why I doubt this is real.

Why cover something up on the box art of the Game of The Century?

Playing Devils Advocate here...does Gamestop/EB games have a practice of photoshopping and changing box arts? Just seems like kind of a weird thing for a big company to do.

No online no buy.
I'm starting to hate when people say this. Even though it'll be disappointing if it doesn't have online it's still going to be great game that we all know you'll buy anyways =P

Not me. If there's no online, I will pass on even the greatest game of all time. Why would I want to play an amazing game if I can't do it online. Hell, when I owned an N64, I didn't buy any games on it because none of them were online.

No friends in real life I take it? That or youre beng sarcastic, cause that N64 comment was full of :lol

Seriously, I can understand the "NO ONLINE NO BUY" is ridiculous hyperbole. But it still would be extremely disappointing to me. The Super Smash Brothers series is one of the best multiplayer experiences available and in this day and age it SHOULD have online. The potential of having a ranking system, tournaments, online guilds/teams, and online trophies you could win would be phenomenal.

Yeah, sorry, sarcasm. Forgot my :lol

And I so do have friends. But they all live in another state, same with my girlfriend. That's why you've never met them. :lol

Seriously, I don't really play online that much, but I though Mario Strikers was hella fun on there and I really hope that I get the chance to play Smash online and get my ass kicked a lot. I'll have fun playing it with my son at home, but online would be a very good addition.

This game doesn't need online. Wii is about getting together with friends and family hence "Wii". All you people wanting online didn't complain on GC so what now?

Is the lack of online going to ruin this game?

My god this line of arguing is tragically retarded. Don't try to spin a lack of online as a positive feature of a console. Online gaming is large and very present now this generation, and a very multiplayer oriented game lacking online would make it appear very outdated. Also, fuck that "getting together with friends and family" bullshit. Sure, you can do that when you're in a public school with no job, but what about people who don't have the free time to find three other people with free time to play a game?

Also, last generation's online gaming wasn't present at the beginning and later on people DID complain about Nintendo's lack of online.

I'm in the "Would be disappointed" camp.

Really, with the amount of content revealed for this game, I don't think it needs to be online to succeed, but I'd sure love to have it. I just don't understand how I can play a 32 player unreal tournament match, (an 8 year old game) with little to no lag, yet developers with modern day tech are struggling to get fighting games up and running.

gotcha, lack of food clearly makes me go dumb.

That's because we didn't really expect online with a GCN title. Iwata promised us online for Brawl, so that's why we expect it.

Lets face it. To enjoy a game like this you need competetive multiplayer. It wouldn't just be dissapointing, the game would be a million times more enjoyable with online.

Especially since this game has a great cast, great fighting system, great music, great stages etc the lack of online completely dissapoints because there will be no point to all of it for the vast majority of people.

I'm sure Brawl would be a worthy purchase even without online, but I won't buy out of principle. At this point for a fighter (or a racing game to be honest) to not have online play is simply unforgivable. If DBZ Budokai Tenuhcuehdasda 3 can do it, so can Brawl.

That said, I still have hope. There have been times when the WiFi logo doesn't appear but the game does eventually have online (and vice versa, for example Yoshi's Island DS).

Not really, most people who buy games DO NOT play games online, so your "vast majority of people" comment is flawed. The hardcore will, of course, care but the general market wont give more than two shits, just look at the numbers and youll see that percentage wise, not that many people use online features in consoles, thats a fact.

Personally, if Online is in,, cool. I probably will mostly play with 3 other people irl cause I hate playing fighting games by myself (online or not, youre still the only one in the room)

Actually, people did end up complaining about that, or at least noting "hey, this would be fun online." Double Dash kinda pushed the lack of online play even more, to the point of someone making that ghetto online system to play DD online.

I remember joining that community. Warp Pipe IIRC.

Which bothered Nintendo so much, they pulled LAN play from one or two titles that were going to have it, and seemed to require third parties not include it either.

I thought it was a little disappointing that Melee wasn't online, but Nintendo just dropped the ball in general with the GameCube when it came to that sort of thing. (PSO was delayed and delayed because Nintendo wouldn't release the modem, even though they said they would when the software was there for it.)

Brawl lacking online would be a bigger disappointment, because it was obviously a big focus of the project from the start (it was announced as online before the project truly existed), and it's something they've hopefully kept in mind the whole way through while designing it. They also started work from the Melee codebase, so they've not had to redo absolutely everything from scratch. Hopefully that's given them more time to work out how to get online functioning in an enjoyable manner.

And if they do get it going, I hope it isn't restricted to just one specific type of play, where you can't choose options, stages, etc. (Something like Mario Kart DD's LAN play, or Tetris DS's weak online options.) I don't think Sakurai would stand for that, though. After all, how many Nintendo games let you configure the controls to your preferences? He knows the gamers want options.

I'm sure they've at least included the ability to trade stickers and trophies over the online service. There's just too much stuff you can collect in the game for them to ignore that.
