Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The Subspace Emissary - Full-blown Adventure game.

Question time...

The video clips are used to show story progression. The clips appear to show an assortment of different characters. Assuming this story mode lets you choose one character and use that character throughout it, it seems as though that might make it difficult to use a stock set of video clips for all the fighters while still retaining "character development."

The question, then, is as follows...

Is Sakurai insane enough to include a complete set of adventure movie clips for EVERY fighter in the game?

I doubt it, especially considering the videos. Probably, each part of the game will have a different set of playable characters.

This "mode" by itself would be enough to get a megaton reaction if it was just its own game. Nintendo's universe teaming up in a sidescrolling action game??? Holy shit. And this is in SMASH BROS. I imagine all the standard one player versus modes from past Smash Bros games will be in this too.

The difference between this and other fighting games(besides developer talent) is that these characters have been in excellent single player games before. It's not like you're breaking the gameplay of the original fighting game to do an adventure mode(like in other fighting games), you're bringing a side-scrolling solution that fits very well into the existing single player scheme of most of these characters. That's a great addition and I don't see why anyone wouldn't be excited about it.

If these platforming stages are original and not from any past Nintendo game, then perhaps we can expect some original music as well?

Storymode spoilers:
Marios last boss will be Bowser that will transform to Gigabowser. You need to defeat Bowser to save lovely Princess Peach

Oh God, please let there be Mother characters in this game! I need this to be true now more than ever.

Now that I mention that, doesn't the pig-ship look Mother 3-ish? I have two copies of the game, but I'm eagerly awaiting the English translation before I really play it.

Hmm... could be, does anyone have that massive list of music writers making tracks for the game? I remember it was huge, but not where I saw it. >.< (All I can remember is Uematsu doing the main theme of the game)

Maybe that is an idea that needs to be help off, we don't need Amirox becoming even more insufferable.

Is this from something? I swear I've seen this enemy before.

It reminds me of the sheep that run across the screen when you use the SLEEP badge/power in Paper Mario.

I remember that thread where people had to choose which would they rather get if they could only choose one, Galaxy or Brawl?

Are the Galaxy people still happy with that choice?

Because of this, I have gained TREMENDOUS respect for Sakurai and HAL. They're putting REAL effort into the game, and it must be f****** hard work.

Well, I think this might just confirm Snake isn't the only MGS character in the game.

Ocelot perhaps?
It will probably be either ocelot or liquid snake.

Dissappointing thread title, by the way. An Adventure Mode, sure, but not really an Adventure Game, is it?

This is a direct quote from the official website:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The Subspace Emissary is a robust side-scrolling action game!

You know, the way that the title is structured, with "Adventure Mode" and "Subspace Emissary", rather than only Subspace Emissary or only Adventure Mode, maybe they'll follow Kirby Super Star and create other, smaller, 1p Adventure modes too?

Like a dungeon crawler/item collection one and a remake of an old title (Super Mario Bros 1?) in the new engine.

HAL's not developing it. It was outsourced to Sora. Sakurai's the one guy from HAL with a lot of control, even though he doesn't work for HAL/Nintendo anymore.

When I saw how much detail was put into SSBM and Meteos (a ****ing puzzle game), I gained huge, huge respect for the guy. No wonder he felt that Kirby Air Ride was a slap in the face.

From the video, I found it funny that Zelda gets all hyperactive and does some teleport crap and Peach just comes floating on her umbrella. Peach is like look bitch, if you're going to help Mario and I fight, you're gonna have the calm the **** down.

Or they just both used their up B attacks.

Noooo, really? Now is that up and B at the same time or do you press up and then press B? And what is this Smash Bros. anyway?

My point was that Zelda's was extravagant and Peach came nonchalantly floating in. It was humorous.

I'm honestly impressed!

The only thing missing from completing the Smash Bros. package was a decent single-player mode. Granted most fighting games don't really need an "adventure mode" perhaps since we're all used to the simple tournament approach in most fighting games. The usual laughable story layered on top of a string of random fights in order to make it seem loosely cohesive for example. Although this narrative probably won't make any more sense than the usual DOA/Tekken tripe its design approach fits perfectly within the Nintendo gameplay pathos. You could interpret that as another layer of cohesion that compliments the gameplay if you wish. Hopefully after the success of this game and Namco's further advances into this territory with Soul Calibur and Tekken we'll see an bigger push from developers to offer a little more than the simple tournament brawl.
A caveat: Sega don't you dare ruin VF6 by adding this design approach. VF is perfection as a tournament fighter.

Please don't misconstrue this as a maligned comparison to other fighting games. I simply wanted to point out that Smash Bros. is fleshing out a feature that other fighting games have attempted to do and have done poorly for quite a while (see Devil Jin mode or SC2's pseudo strategy mode).

Glad to see they're taking the "adventure mode" from the previous incarnation and expanding upon it and making it into a richer experience to really expand the game's longevity and enjoyment. This is going to be one hell of a game!

Wrong on all accounts my friend.

Sakurai was contracted by Nintendo to direct the game. Sakurai is the president and only designer of Sora inc. There is staff from HAL ("a couple of members of the original team who lived in Tokyo") and members from Nintendo (Nintendo transplanted 20-30 new employees just for this project). Then to make the developer the 50+ Sakurai needed, "Miyamoto introduced Sakurai to an unnamed development team who joined the staff". Then you have the original producers and assist staff from the original.

Everytime i see someone say "Sora is making the game", that is misinformation!!! Aremm.. Nintendo Database..

Except teleporting is much more badass than just floating around.
Unless you're Mewtwo and can do both.

Destructible objects hopefully means Subspace Emissary stages will be more interactive and stuff. Like you can whack a thing and a thing will come out of it. yeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaah

Sounds awesome.

Why does she still have Forare's Wind. WHY!?

Let me see if I have wrapped my head around this correctly, not only does this game include the normal multiplayer fighting and single player fighting, but it also includes this side-scrolling singleplayer adventure. In this adventure will you be fighting the enemies using your attacks from mutliplayer, if so that is pretty godly.
