Is it safe to use an usb stck for additional storage? I don't have a hard drive at home and don't have enough space for the update on my Wii U basic.

You can but its not safe, since they don't have a power source they have a limited number of rewrites everytime its being used, it will eventually delete all data.

SMASHGAF RANBATS – SEASON THREE
With a batch of players with renewed interested in this game, I wanted to post about the SmashGAF Ranbats. Ranbats are much like a sports league, where players are put in brackets to compete against one another. It is all fairly fun and casual, with the goal of fostering a sense of community in the SmashGAF threads. Below are the rules we use to guide SmashGAF Ranbat play. If you are interested, quote this post to see the sign-up link below:

Season 3 starts on Sunday, April 19. Sign-ups will close on Friday, April 17.
The results of the first round are due by Sunday, April 26.

BRACKETS:
I have the preliminary brackets set up. These are expected to change before Season 3 begins, but they provide a strong idea of what match-ups everyone will be facing:
http://tinyurl.com/ktl9yff

SETUP:
• Each player belongs to a bracket.
• Player names are listed as GAFNAME(NNID).
• Each week, you are responsible for playing one new person – of your choice - in your bracket by Sunday night.
• Record the score in Google Spreadsheets using the invitation you were provided with.
o 1 = Winner.
o 0 = Loser.
o The horizontal cells from your name are your score; the vertical is for reference against who you played against.
• The format is Round Robin – everyone plays everyone in their bracket once.

IN-GAME RULES:
• First to 5 wins takes the set.
• 1v1.
• Customs are legal, items and equipment are not.
• Either player may switch characters between matches.
• 2-stock with a 6-minute timer.
• Time Out Clause: if the match timer hits “0”, the player with the lowest damage % wins.
• In-game mechanics result in the stage decision (each player picks; game decides).
• When starting a set, each player may post two stages that are banned for the set.
• For the purposes of this rule, omega-version stages are all one “stage”.
• If a player wins on a stage, that player may not pick that stage for the next two rounds of the set.
• Legal stage list:

All For Glory Stages
Battlefield
Smashville
Town and City
Lylat Cruise
Skyloft
Castle Seige
Halberd
Delfino
Duck Hunt
Wuhu Island

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS:
• Be honest.
• Be respectful.
• Be responsible.

GROUNDS FOR REMOVAL:
• Dishonest score reports.
• Disrespectful conduct.
• Consistent failure to play matches on time.
• Consistent complaints about connection quality.

FAQ:
I am new to SmashGAF – can I join?
Yes! Anyone is welcome to play! This is about having fun and fostering a sense of community.

What should I do to try and find my matches?
PM people on NeoGAF! Try to work out times instead of hoping it all works out. If a player has been banned, PM me for an e-mail contact.

What if my opponent and I are having trouble making our match happen within the one-week period?
You have a two-week grade period to play each match, but do your best to play your match within the one-week period provided. If you do not play a match one week, you must play two the next to catch up. I will be lenient on ranbans, however, and will only ban a player after the ranbat season has concluded and matches are left unplayed.

What should I do if I have tried to set up a ranbat match with someone, but they are unresponsive?
PM me the evidence of your attempts so that I can make an informed decision regarding ranbans.

Why is <Insert Rule> the case instead of <Insert Other Rule>?
Everything exists as it does because I feel it is a good policy. Nothing is cut into diamond, however, and if the majority player base feels a policy change is needed, I fully welcome discussion on the issue.

Can I join late?
Unless someone drops out mid-season, you will have to wait until the next season begins. There is no player cap, however, so you will be welcome to join when the next season begins.

Can I play ahead, or even finish my entire season right away?
Sure, go for it! I encourage this, actually.

Should I wire my connection?
Hell yes you should! Here are two methods to improve your connection:
1) Wiring your Wii U through an Ethernet adapter is the best option. A wireless connection will never stack up to a wired one. Here is a link to a cheap adapter that many players here use, and it works wonderfully:
http://tinyurl.com/qej8w74

2) If your modem is far away from your Wii U, you can try a Powerline Interner Adapter. These work by channeling your internet connection through an electrical socket. I do not use one personally, but several GAF members have praised their efficacy. Here is a list of options; if a GAF member wants to weigh in on the various levels of quality present here, I am glad to recommend one over the others:

How were the brackets decided?
The top player from each bracket moved up to the next bracket. The player with the lowest score in each bracket moved down one bracket. New players, including most returning players, are grouped in a new bracket.

This season, the top 2 players will move up, and the bottom 2 players will move down.

I was banned in the first season. Can I rejoin?
Anyone banned during Season 1 can rejoin the ranbats for Season 3. However, if the player is banned a second time, the ranban will be notably longer. Fool me once, etc.

Robin changes (from Smashboards)
Raziek said:
can confirm NEW CHANGES (Testing 3 versions: 1.02 3DS, 1.05 3DS, 1.06 Wii U):

RobinF Levin Sword Durability Indicator Glitch FIXED (Did not Flash for Female in previous versions)
Wind jab is faster, Hits connect significantly more consistently, including the final hit.
Books no longer disappear (despite being picked up) if they touch a platform. (BATTLEFIELD BUFF)

I can confirm (Testing 3 versions: 1.02 3DS, 1.05 3DS, 1.06 Wii U):

Dash/Walk speed is identical. (Tested Side-by-side on 3DS versions)
Thoron Damage is the same. (18%)
Nos still leaves you in Helpless. :(
All Damage values identical. (Did not test Soaring/Gliding Elwind)

Not explicitly confirmed, but based on feel:

Grab range seems identical.
Thoron KB slightly nerfed. Kills DK (neutral positions on BF) at 152 in 1.02, 158 in 1.05.

Can De-confirm:
F-tilt deadspot is NOT completely gone. It seems better, but I was able to produce a whiff by having Marth walk into me.
Pummel speed is NOT faster (1.02 vs. 1.06)

They're neat changes, but not really that helpful in the grand scheme of things. Robin's still going to struggle against the greats.

tried my main bowser jr. and didn't felt anything changed..but i'm hardly a pro that would detect subtle changes

mewtwo is pretty strong, mostly because of his big reach ,the teleport dodge and the anti projectile moves

it's not as easy as other characters ,so it will probably not fall anywhere the top tier...but i think i'm gonna buy it once it's avaiable

That sounds pretty risky, but I currently don't have another choice if I want to play with the update. It is a cheap usb stick anyway.Thank you!

I'd recommend deleting something you are not currently using until you've got external storage, that way the update data is installed to your console too.

Is Mewtwo the new Diddy?

He can teleport with ease, his attacks have been doing an insane amount of damage, but his hotboxes are below average size-ish, yet his attacks take up a huge reach around him rather then hitting in one general direction.

Mewtwo is very power for sure, OP? Maybe... I already sense a nerf in the works though.

it is?
only played against it,not using it since i don't have the dlc,and it didn't seem that bad

He has some improvements compared to Melee but not enough to make him high tier or top -- unless people find something about him that hasn't been found yet. He feels pretty in the middle.

They even nerfed his Uthrow KB compared to Melee -- it doesn't KO Mario with no DI on FD until 145ish%. Lol.

Well bowser is also in the middle so he works well for me.

well, there's a difference between being bad and not being top tier

also..I'm not really a smash competitive guy..so if a character is "solid" is good enough for me

Looking at the Sonic nerfs, it looks like he was hit harder than other characters. Feel like he's still really good and manageable, but it's going to be harder to get damage/kills.

Starting to remind me of Brawl Sonic.

Link supposedly has his jab cancel removed, Dan Salvato (the guy who found the jab "infinite") tweeted as such earlier.

https://twitter.com/dansalvato1/status/588345024317935616

yup, canceling the first first jab is overall changed, timing is tight, opposed to the previous patch where you could easily link jab1>almost everything

I'll mess around with him more today, got my 3ds to work so I'll trying things at lunch hr haha

From smashboards

ugh...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! WTF really?!

...what? :( Fuck the world is true. I haven't heard of any nerfs other than his B-throw having less KB.

can someone confirm that bowser jr.'s drill smash has now decent hitboxes?
previously it was possible for the opponent to position themselves between bowser jr. and the drills and avoid damage completely

Mewtwo is really fun. I am excited to continue playing him tonight. I spent 2 hours with him in training mode against a level 9 Mario.

Dtilt is probably one of the best normals in the entire game.
Jabs are great for tick throws.
Uthrow KOs at about 140%.
Confusion is great for reflects; confusing as a command grab (appropriately).
Disable scales with %; you can get a fully charged fsmash at 85%.
He doesn't seem to get combos off of throws at any %, but dthrow leads to good setups.

Dat Bthrow nerf hits him hard.
Isn't it like a 5% difference in KO range?

Overreactions to a top tier, brainless character getting a slight nerf.

What nerfs did he get?
I haven't really tested anything for myself since I can't play now, but people have been saying:

B-Throw was nerfed. (was obvious)
The amount of hits and damage on spin dash is less now.
If Homing Attack misses and hits the ground, it forces us to move forward compared to before where we can control where it goes.

I think that's about it. Not sure if he got any buffs.

I'm gonna miss getting kill confirms from Jab 1 > Uptilt/Dsmash :(

Ewww. That's disgusting.

More so reminds me of PM 2.5 -> PM 2.6 Sonic transition. I haven't played this patch yet btw.
