Question for SmashGAF, who uses or at least tries to implement perfect pivots into their gameplay? I try to myself although I mess it up online a lot, and I just can't do it to the left :T

I've been trying to incorporate it into my Greninja play since it makes Utilt and Dsmash much stronger options. Execution's not as consistent as I want it to be yet, but it's getting there.

Oddly enough it feels easier online than off to me. Not really sure why.

It's not a FPS though, it's 3th person :3
And it plays nothing like traditional shooters.
I've played all types of fpses/3rd person shooters and I don't feel it brings enough to the table.
Well, if you're going to make it sound like an OBLIGATION. But I'm still looking to play.

Doesn't really matter how different Splatoon is. Nothing can fill the raging void left by Team Fortress 2.
Naw I'm just on for glory so I'm available to play! Getting sick of boring default Palutena. And the void for a fps yet to be filled for me is Natural Selection 1 (NS2 sucks so it doesn't count kappa).

If I use pivots for anything it is Pivot Grab. Because Bowser has the best range.

Which reminds me. I don't think Calm Animal used Pivot grab even once. Why?
I think it's because he's too busy being aggressive, which means he makes unsafe decisions and gets hit sometimes. It's probably the hardest thing with Bowser: smoothly transitioning between defensive and offensive mindsets.

I'll be playing Splatoon but I'll still play Smash on the side. I've also already signed up for season 4 of the ranbats.
When people say they don't have time for the ranbats, it really confuses me. FSLink got all 5 of his matches done in an evening both seasons.

I just don't like how weak the range on the guns is. It's like...rifle range in that game is shotgun range in most shooters. Plus the shots are poorly focused, so you're firing more at an "area" than a person. I understand why they did that, but it wasn't for me.

After playing fighting games, shooters are just harder to enjoy in general.

Surprisingly, that's not the case. As long as you're at the right range for your weapon (which, yeah, is pretty short) you actually just want to keep people directly in your crosshair.

Visually it looks like it you're right and I spent about half an hour trying to compensate for a spread that isn't there myself. The game felt a lot better once I realized that wasn't necessary at all. It's really weird.

Should have played FPSs during hl1 mod days. Those shooters were much more technical with lots of skills to master (like bunny hopping). May they forever rest in peace..

edit: I swear to god I need a "used 2nd jump" hud icon because I always forget I used it..

Since I have time...

SMASHGAF SEASON 4 RANBAT SIGN-UP LINK (QUOTE TO REVEAL):

Sign-ups end next weekend (June 5th).

THE FOLLOWING PLAYERS HAVE RANBAT MATCHES THAT MUST BE FINISHED THIS WEEK, OR THEY WILL BE RANBANNED FROM NEXT SEASON:
Jrs3000
Juni
Kyzer
RedFalco
Aaronrules
MillionVolts
Thulius
Robiin
Zing

Basically, Bracket 7 has lots of people that suck. :-P

If you have tried to play your matches, but your opponent has not been responsive, I expect an e-mail from you promptly. Sunday evening, I will ban everyone with unplayed matches.

You mean it always hits in the crosshairs, and the effect is purely visual?

Also, what's the deal with your ranbat matches?

I have only really liked Halo when it comes to FPSes. I like the additional strategic decision-making a shield adds. I like games that make my brain think deeper rather than my fingers move faster, if that makes any sense. Nothing against the latter games, they just don't excite me.

There should be a sweat bead on your character's forehead or something.

Thank you guys for the controller scheme inputs!

Going to turn the tap to jump off.

Thanks!

Edit: Just realized if you do any of the corner inputs for C stick you get the neutral attack...what a stupid design idea. :/

Yeah pretty much, the spread is relevant when inking the stage but not when hitting other players. It feels like they're two separate projectiles.

As for ranbats I've never seen half of bracket 7 in this thread and haven't sent/received any PMs. I dunno!

PM them and send me the pic so I don't ban you - I know you are really active here, and I wouldn't want to ban everyone because no one sent me anything. :-P

Edit: I know Robiin is active here.

For real? I'm bad at picking things up.
No no, I mean that Sakurai should add one, haha. :-)

How are you doing perfect pivot Utilt?

Do you mean me? Because that's not what I ment at all with my post, on the contrary. It means I'm definitely going to keep playing Smash and the ranbats despite Splatoon releasing :p

I don't know. I don't see a single flaw in custom Palutena. She can't be punished and she can punish everything. It's Sonic with a tic throw that is also a guaranteed KO.
I find her very manageable. The big thing is that Palutena only has two moves she can use safely:

Fair
Jab

That's literally it, and Fair needs to be fast-falled to be useful in the neutral, which leaves her open during the jumping period. She is an extremely defensive character. She relies on Jab and Super Speed setups to do work. Super Speed is by far the most important aspect of the character to understand, because it leads to combos and setups from 0 to kill%.

Her shield attacks are invincible, but they are punishable - even Bair if you can perfect shield it. It has landing lag.

I am pretty good at reading - I wasn't referring to you. :-)

Custom Palutena has to go for lots of grabs so on faster characters it can be harder to get kills. Plus she only has 2 viable ko options, grab lightweight, and super speed kos (which are great I'll admit). Besides that her smash attacks have the worst recovery in the game and are only good for reads (and highly punishable). And her tilts are the worst in the game too and situational. So she basically uses a small subset of her total moves or something, and most of them are not safe on block. But probably top 10-15 in customs metagame.

edit: Anyone else up for some games?

Haha ok, just making sure.
Btw, has anyone seen SuperBowser or NooM post here recently? Soul Lab and me need to play our doubles match against them but it's hard to get in contact with them over PM...

I'd love to play someone but...I can't play the Wii U version right now =/ Does anyone wanna play me on the 3DS version. I main Little Mac (lol yeah alright get the jokes out of the way) but I have a 76% win rate online.

So then you Down Smash manually? Personally I have trouble doing stuff other than Forward _____ out of perfect pivots without the c stick.

Yep. Dsmash is kind of annoying to do manually but Utilt is virtually impossible. Plus I like tilt stick for Mewtwo and I don't wanna switch control schemes every time I switch characters.

Honestly the best use case for PPs is probably retreating from the usual running attack/grab mixup, but that takes better awareness and reaction than online play typically allows for.

There's nothing wrong with maining Little Mac. SmashGAF has some great Little Mac players.

None of that helps, frankly. It's not like she's going to be using smash attacks in a position where she can be punished, she already has 2 safe and extremely strong KO setups. She has ridiculous spacing and yet completely blows up the neutral game. She has entirely her own metagame and it's even more ridiculous than Sonic.

No one judges who you main here.
Unless it's that abortion-throwing asshole, Yoshi.

You should give me a replay, because she's nowhere near Sonic levels of annoying. DQ's Palutena is only using like...50% of her potential, too.

I think I've upgraded to 60% by now kappa... My fingers will never be fast enough to be Aerolink good. Honestly I feel she is the Magneto of this game with customs. But Magneto is more safe and offensive..

edit: blackquil where you at brah?
