Do I just have to keep waiting for my game to update? Is there a way to make it check for it and start downloading it?

Once you initiate the download, even if it fails the first time, it will download in the background at the next opportunity.

Well of course, plus with a game with a larger budget it'd likely cost more than 250k.
But are they supposed to price them $1-2 as a business or something? Just because they can eat the cost better doesn't mean it's a smart business move. It's also in line of what other fighting games charge for DLC characters.

I just find it surprising considering the amazing deals they gave out in regards to Mario Kart, but I guess they feel like they can get away with whatever for Smash. That was some of the best DLC pricing I've ever seen.

This is closer to Destiny in terms of amount of content to price ratio... and that sucks.

3ds eshop is working I think, also

It's always the same shit around here, someone presents an easily disputed argument that misrepresents the facts, people handily address it with actual facts, that someone chooses to ignore the facts deliberately until they no longer can, and then they think they can get to decide when the discussion ends. Bleh, fuck that. If you think Nintendo's DLC pricing model for characters makes them distinct from other fighting game developers, you don't know what you're talking about. If you think this sort of pricing model hasn't been justified, you don't know what you're talking about. And it's really that simple.
Like I said people like to complain. That or they have no idea how much stuff costs to make ore how DLC works in the first place because they aren't used to it.

Again other games have prices exactly the same or similar to this. Minus Arcsys because they don't give a shit.

Oh my.

Oh. My. Fucking. God.

I had moved my Smash data onto an external because I had to make space before. I put it back in now and all my data was wiped...

$5 is on the low side for fighting game characters. Complainers need to take a look in the Xbox Live or PSN stores and see how much characters cost there.

Care to explain the difference? Whether it's a costume or actual character it has to be tested, designed, balanced, etc.

A costume is a single model applied to an existing character animation. Aside from checking for graphical glitches, there's no "balancing" needed. You test it a few times in a fight and that's it.

An ACTUAL character needs that, ideas for moves, tweaking of timings, weight, speed, victory and losing animations, music, and to make sure it works against every character (all... what will it be, now, 54?)

The two are in no way comparable.

I'm really disappointed they didn't show anything they were developing further on. Most of us already knew about Ryu/Roy.

At least there is a lot of new content!

holeee shit. Sorry to hear that :(

It's for times like this that my brother picked up a Power Saves. God only knows the number of times we lost Melee and Brawl data because we were fucking around. You know anybody local who's got one?

Hah! 30.00 for everything.

And people called me crazy for saying 20.00 for everything last night.

Finally in on 3DS. I'm grabbing it all.

You seem to be excluding some things...like the models, the textures, light maps, audio files (I've had some of my old projects become incompatible because of an unusable sound byte, and I doubt it's just because I'm a crappy programmer), and even if the new character models are compatible with that coding (I've seen too many rigs explode because the files decided they didn't like my characters...it's not pretty).

The would definitely be some things they'd have to totally redo, but I'd be surprised if that included animations or drawing the stage (other than making it fit 16x9), or any character interactions with the stage. Then again I have written a lot of code but dont know much about game development.

I disagree but mostly because a new character adds a lot to a fighting game and requires more work per character (to include balancing) than a racing track and a few character models.

Could it be priced cheaper? Yes. I'd love it if characters were like $3 and stages were $0.99, but fighting game characters are expensive and they want to make a profit.

Interesting. Will have to work out if the stuff I want comes close to that to work out if it's better for me to get the pack or not.

I hate these type of skins so much.
Why can't they just be full head coverings?

Why is Nintendo intentionally selling costumes that look like someone skinned and wore their characters?

That is the face of a serial killer.

furries of course!

It's always the same shit around here, someone presents an easily disputed argument that misrepresents the facts, people handily address it with actual facts, that someone chooses to ignore the facts deliberately until they no longer can, and then they think they can get to decide when the discussion ends so that shit can remain unaddressed and faulty points can be stood by til the end of time. Bleh, fuck that. If you think Nintendo's DLC pricing model for characters makes them distinct from other fighting game developers, you don't know what you're talking about. If you think this sort of pricing model hasn't been justified, you don't know what you're talking about. And it's really that simple. You don't gotta like it, but you shouldn't paint it as some Nintendo-exclusive price gouging, lmao

shhh apparently we're all nintendo fanboys who are okay when nintendo does it
