Super Smash Bros Wii U Review Thread

Just a heads up LOTS of outlets will NOT have played online at all because the online was not working at the time yet.

Hopefully their will at least be some impressions later on for online play before the game is out.

Looking forward to GameXplain review :D one of the true nintendo websites left.

I've heard negative impressions from NVC (the good part of IGN) and GameXplain and considering Nintendo put it front and center on the main menu I expect it to get brought up frequently

I'm expecting the stage builder to be a positive considering how it uses the Wii U Gamepad. reviewers generally loved to trash year one games for not using it, I'm expecting some praise now that it's being put to good use.
Agreed on everything again. I've seen the same impressions

I'm pretty much expecting this to be my GOTY. 8 player Smash will absolutely dominate Christmas for my family. The lack of tripping should pretty much make this a better game than Brawl by default. Hopefully the online works well. Mario Kart 8 is the most fun I've had in an online game this year so Nintendo definitely has potential.

That being said, I'm hoping for a Metacritic score of at least 90. Not that it would affect my enjoyment of the game but I'd really like to see this game succeed on all fronts, Nintendo really has earned it this year.

3DS has a metacritic of 85.

I seriously would question things if the Wii U version isn't higher.

it's very confusing the first time you play it but i really like it now. we had a blast playing it in 4 player mode. if most reviewers just play it once, i can see them not really liking it.

I doubt Jose and the guys at GameXplain would only play it once yet still trash it

It could be broken. Performance issues. Online might not work. Maybe some people want it portable.

There are a multitude of reasons why someone might not like it. Of course, I doubt it will get lower, but there are reasons.

you can absolutely not knock down a console game for not being portable, especially a series that has been historically on consoles.

hopefully not, on the NVC it just seemed like they didn't even understand it, meaning they hadn't played it much, hopefully they played it more this week,

Get hyped for 9's and 10's people.

But seriously, I doubt review scores are gonna sway peoples buying decision on this game.

Well, let me rephrase that.

I'd be shocked if it gets a lower score.

i wouldn't know but once you get the hang of it, it's quite fun. that's all i can tell you.

cool cool. I was just sharing my predictions for how some of these scores might go.

I'm personally excited to try it out. seems like another fun way to diversify the multiplayer modes in this game.

I doubt reviewers will dock points for online at all. I mean Brawl is at 93 with an unplayable online mode...

Yeah specially Andre, he played 20+ hours in the first 30 hours he got the game, I bet this review is already at 100+ hours of game time and far more the come once the online is up and impressions are posted on that.

Seriously GameXplain is one of the few outlets who really do play the games and really go all into making fantastic reviews.

Subbed. I hope Arthur Gies is doing the Polygon review. I need to learn more of those big academic words that nobody uses in real life.

80 Metacritic. No playable Ridley.

you kind of can play as Ridley :p

yeah those guys are great

You absolutely can, especially if you reviewed both games.

Saying you cannot is ridiculous. Of course, this would likely require you to be a primarily handheld gamer, someone who has long train/bus commutes, and so on.

Everyone is different. While I was a student I sat in the library for an hour every day between classes. I would rate a 3DS version of a game higher than a Wii U version, or a Vita version higher than a PS4 version.

Like I said, however, I don't see that being the case for a majority of people, but to say "you absolutely can not knock down"? It's not about knocking down, it's about appreciating portability.

I had made a prediction of 91 avg way back in August or so, but with the 3DS one getting mid 80s and softening the impact of a new Smash release, I feel my prediction is a little too high.

Regardless of the final score, I hope that some reviewers call out the lame stage selection. I understand that it's a "YMMV" type deal, but honestly, I think the lackluster stages are the glaring issue in an otherwise really well designed game.

Is it enough to dock significant points off? Nah. I'd like a few reviewers to call it out, though.

I wonder what kind of scores this game will get.

I have it preordered. Hoping it has lots of single player content.

That's what I loved about the previous games. I've never really cared much for mp in these games.
