SuperData: Hearthstone makes $20 million/month, ~8m players on PC ~9m on mobile/month

They are trying to help these recent issues, rewards for ranked play, tavern brawl basically a free pack each week but I definitely agree Hearthstone is not newbie friendly and it's getting worse and worse with every card expansion. I'm wondering when if ever it will start effecting their profits.

I'm sure by the time it does start being problematic for new players to pick up the game they'll already have a few things in the work. Something like consolidating certain expansions together and letting you get Classic and GvG cards from a larger than usual pack would help accelerate the process and also help them have a base before picking up whatever the latest expansion is.

Everytime I go back and pick it up I'm always pissed off about legendary cards. I don't hate them in principle, but I do hate when really rare cards can just be plopped in any deck and still be very very effective. They should be situational, or require a deck that is built around them.

Hated the android client and stopped playing.

Updated my stream 7 to windows 10 and literally installed hearthstone this morning and it runs great

Any of the expansions worth purchasing?I only have the base game

Naxxramas is worth it. A lot of great cards in that expansion.

The game is great so good for Blizzard. Mobile money is huge.

No wonder Bethesda are pushing a card game for next year. They want a piece of that $.

I am kind of surprised Square Enix isn't making a similar card game as well. Final Fantasy universe has many characters and creatures so they could easily pull it off.

Not to mention Tetra Master and co. They already have a cultural baggage behind a FF card game. It practically writes itself.

I got in in the beta and have spent 2 dollars. I have a coworker who has played nearly as long but with huge gaps. In an attempt to catch up he's easily spent 100+.

Poor guy isn't even close.

Great game if you've played it since release. Tougher and tougher to catch up every day that passes.

THIS is how you make a F2P game.

I've never bought card packs using money (only gold), but I've bought the two adventures using money and I don't feel bad about it. Partially because I they're new content. Content not "on-disk".

Anyone feel the same way? Or maybe the question is, why are we spending more on Hearthstone and not other F2P games?

When I think that I've been playing this game for over a year I don't mind the 70$ I've put into this game. However, I doubt I put anymore in. My decks are good enough for a game with balancing issues & a great amount of RNG

Yes, this is how you make F2P - by making a game, that requires at least 3 month of gold grinding in order to build semi-competitive deck. And if you actually want to be competitive then you have to pray RNG gods for legendaries. All card games by their nature are Pay2Win, the thing is that it is accepted in TCG space.

Buy the complete Naxxramas adventure, all of its wings are useful.

Blackrock Mountain on the other hand, only has a few useful cards. The first wing is great: Emperor Thaurissan which is used in many classes and the "Everyone get in here" Grim Patron which only Warrior uses (but it's the best deck atm). It also has Quickshot for Hunters! (SMOrc)
If you like Warlock aggro (zoo) then get the second wing as well (Imp Gang Boss).

So you could just buy the complete Naxx adventure, and get the first BRM wing (with 700 gold or $7 I believe) and you're good to go.

Try to get Classic packs first, since it has the biggest card pool, then Goblin vs Gnomes (specially if you want to play mechs)

Anyway, have fun! And as in many card games, building your collection takes time and patience, but it's always fun opening packs! (It's immensely satisfying opening a legendary card! )
