Sushi burritos are dumb

Kinda just looks like a giant hand roll or uncut normal roll with a fancy new name to charge more for.

Is there anything inside that would qualify it to be a Japanese/Mexican fusion?

Or is it literally just a giant hand roll?

Ehhh, I think they're great

1. Fast-casual japanese food, probably why its so popular in SF and NYC is that its easy to get in and out without having to sit down, order, wait for a waiter etc.

2. Way cheaper than sushi, not sure where you guys are going but I'll take 10 bucks to fill me up with sushi any day

3. Lots of variety, not just fish, chicken, pork, vegetarian, pretty much anyone will find something they want there so its easy to go with a group

Blaze pizza and other fast casual pizza places are doing a similar thing for pizza and I think that's great too

This guy knows his shit.

Good analysis.

That one is definitely never the case. 10 dollars is the starting price for most of this stuff from what I've seen.

The only legit take away from most of this trend food stuff is it's definitely different, that I can appreciate at least. Pricing is virtually never better that the normal stuff though.

Yall need to try those Indian food burritos, that's actually legit.

That sounds terrible. The first time I ever had home made sushi, the girl that made it did not even have a knife to cut it, so it sounds like what I had that time and it was horrible. I don't really like Nori to begin with, but biting into it like that was seriously gag-inducing.

Home made sushi sucks full stop

The only way a "sushi burrito" works is if you're just chewing down on a traditional roll and just didn't bother to cut it into individual pieces.

These "sushi burrito" places are like the worst parts of rice balls mashed with the lamest kinds of portions of sushi.

I would be interested in the Japanese take on the burrito. Can anyone vouch for what Mexican / Cali burritos are like in Japan?

Decent and filling sushi is around 16 at lunch in NYC.

Plus takes longer to prepare fresh. Here you getting much higher volume, which is essential for fast casual.

Man that's a bummer, it's a dime a dozen for sushi places out in LA. Suppose it depends where you are.

I'm a fan of Sushirritos. Cost less than the equivalent sushi roll at a restaurant, more filling, and portable. Too bad I don't have locations convenient to me. It doesn't replace real sushi or burritos, it's just a new thing. I dig it.

Looks like a hipster version of maki sushi
It's not like you can get a quick-serve maki handroll that's filling enough for lunch. You'd have to order like three from a sit-down sushi place. It's not really the same product.

terminology in this thread is reminding how much I hated working at Sushi restaurants

especially the Americans who would always ask "what's in your california roll? eww crab, no thanks"

;9

While this thread is up, can I also add that this method for pizza consumption looks like a sure fire way to give your mouth 3rd degree burns from hot cheese just spilling all over you?
I mean it looks delicious but god damn.

Oh yeah. LA has very cheap sushi options.

What we lack out here are proper delis though, I've always been mad jealous of the NY style deli. My girlfriend came from out there and most of our stuff out here are pale, overpriced comparisons apparently.

GOD DAMN IT WHO NEEDS A MORE PORTABLE FUCKING SLICE OF PIZZA

yeah one opened 3 blocks from my house so I tried it out, it was garbage. A whole bunch of flavors and sauces mixed up into a mess. Sushi is amazing because you get nice, distinct clean flavors of fish and sea in different bites.

Pouring a bunch of sushi into a wrap is Jim Gaffigan levels of culinary excellence.

Its not hard to spend $10 on a legit sushi roll. So, $10+ wouldn't be too bad, depending on how its filled.

I remember "sushi burritos" being a joke in MST3K, probably Prince of Space. I'm guessing one of their fans watched that and thought "Hmm, not a bad idea."

My crotch burns just looking at this.

Hang on just a minute...can we talk about this?

Like how is that even a possibility? How do you prepare the ingredients for sushi without a knife?

This is blowing my mind.

It was just cucumber and imitation crab and I think she hacked up the cucumbers with a butter knife if I recall correctly. They had just moved into this house and had like nothing to cook with. You want to know what's even worse? She didn't have sushi rice so she used Uncle Bens and proceeded to serve it hot out of the microwave. I gotta stop thinking about this, it's gonna make me sick.

We had some in San Francisco when visiting and I wasn't that impressed. The concept - on paper - gets the blood pumpin, but the execution is off.
