SW FU Demo: When is it up?

Beavertown said:
Wow, just got around to trying this out. Pretty fucking awesome all the way around. Some of the best graphics I believe I've seen thus far this gen.

The whole Star Wars thing kinda kills my boner for it though.
Better than cyber norse mythology. :P

In the demo?

Yes, its easy to do once you get a hold on the controls. My brother was doing it a lot on his first playthrough and it took me till my 3rd to get a hang of it :lol

After playing it through about 5 times now the controls are a breeze and I dont really have any issues with the camera

This game rocks and doing things like bending the scaffolding to blow up the tie fighters as well as using combos of lightning, force push and just using the objects to knock down the opponents it is much deeper than I first thought

My only complaint echoes a lot of comments here about the weakness of the lightsaber, he could have a hockey stick or even a ruler and cause the same amount of damage I think

I don't think we have an official thread yet and this is not worth doing a new one.

Apparently the Official Xbox Magazine gave the game a 7.5.

Just looked up Metacritic...

OPM: 70

Oh well I wasn't that impressed after the demo so one less fall title isn't that bad for my wallet.

it's a shame...seems like alotta people are indifferent to it

Hell, based on the demo alone, I easily give the game an 8/10

Remeber kids, 7 is still a good score

I do figure that alotta people are just gonna blow through it, rather than be genuinely creative with the set pieces and technology behind it

I have played the demo at least 10 times, and the more I play it and get comfortable with the Force powers, the more I want this game. At first, I thought it was a weak God of War clone, but now I think I have been seduced by the dark side.

By the way, has anyone been able to unlock the most difficult setting in the demo?

From the demo, 7 or 7,5 seem about right.

I replayed the demo with the controls limitation in mind, and I actually had some no-brain fun. This isn't bad by any mean, but could be much more with another control scheme.

I liked the demo. It's a decent fighting/adventure game overall. The Jedi has some moves. This game would definately appeal to people who love DMC or GOW.

Eventually I'll probably pick this up.

I read that oxm review, and he actually dint have too much negative to say about the game. He made a big deal about the QTE's for bosses though. Said he didnt like that he was forced to do them to finish off the big characters, he would rather use the force combos he unlocked. I'll look again when I get home and post more if someone else hasn't already.

They gave Castle Crashers an 8.5 though :)

Oh no doubt. This game totally blows that piece of shit away in all departments. It's actually a little mind blowing that they're releasing so close together considering how far behind that other game is.

I enjoyed the demo, graphics were great, I enjoyed throwing mofos around into ships and other shit. Too bad there isn't multiplayer, or this could be my new Jk2. It's just a rental as I'm sure the game isn't more than 8 hours of gameplay at most.

Demo was fun. Not sure what kind of replayability it will have so it's strongly in the 'rental' or 'budget' category right now.

Was I the only one a little frustrated with the targeting though? It seemed like a crap shoot on targeting exactly what I wanted so I'd often just start throwing random things - still fun but I would like more precision.

C'mon Wii version.

Game compare has comparison pictures up, big surprise, the x360 version looks better.
http://d.hatena.ne.jp/yoda-dip-jp/searchdiary?word=*[Game%20Compare]

PS3 version has lower quality textures ;/ Look at the floor texture in picture 3, also in the monitors in picture 2. PS3 version does look like it has less jaggies, other than that I don't see any other difference between both versions.

I love love love this.

The demo rocked me and I had zero anticipation up to this point. I really enjoyed this demo and I can't wait to pick up the game now.

This demo Rocked.

I c ant believe the game will be out in 2 wks!

Euphoria is teh best engie of this gen for sure. the animation and possibilities are endless. i was so happy see that the objects can be flung throughthe spacewindows - which of course seal up right away

I dont care what the reviewers say. granted I LOVE star wars, but this game is all about the FORCE. the way they programmed "weight" into everything is amazing. heavy things move slowly, light ones zip around.

Im a junbkie for environmental interaction in games. Euphoria plus HAVOK = pure game sexx!!

I guess I'll NOt get TH and get this instead!

...got some quotes?

Here:
"With its non-branching storyline and no multiplayer, Force Unleashed is certainly less ambitious than the classic Jedi Knight games- and ultimately, its design makes it feel more videogame-y and less of an all-engrossing Star Wars experience than Xbox entries like Jedi Knight II or Jedi Academy. but when the game's on, its on, and Star Wars nuts will revel in those moments where you can be an unbridled, Force-fueled bully."

Why do people keep bringing up GoW? What does SWFU have anything to do with God of War beyond the fact that both are 3D action games, a very broad genre? GoW was hardly even the first of its kind, nor is it the apex. GoW is also almost 100% melee, while SWFU probably puts more emphasis overall on (often extremely) long-range attacks since the game is pretty much all about the Force.

Sorry to use to your post when you're saying you no longer feel that way, but I'm just puzzled by the comparisons people have been making.

wow, retard city. I hate hate hate this kind of mentality.

Me too.

It's reasons like this why The Darkness had a tacked-on shitty multiplayer. Starbreeze literally said they felt pressured to add it in since so many complained that Chronicles of Riddick had no multiplayer, when it never even needed it.

Some games just don't need multiplayer because a) it simply wouldn't work and could/would compromise the story/characters/gameplay/etc, and b) it takes time and resources, those often coming at the expense of the single player.

3rd Person Action/Adventure with focus on a combo system. Spend points on increasing abilities/powers. Regain health by defeating enemies. Finish boss battles with a quick time event.

There are a lot of similarities to GOW.

Wait, "non-branching storyline"? Whatever happened to
converting back to the light side or staying with the dark side
?

That was the best thing about the Jedi Knight games. Would really suck if they have taken it out.

Supposedly they docked points off for no multiplayer.
You gotta be kidding me. So now EVERY game HAS to have multiplayer or it's a mark against it? Reminds me of when they were crying because Mass Effect didn't have MP. :lol I wonder if FFXIII will meet the same fate.

Anyway, I haven't enjoyed a Star Wars game this much since the one on N64, I think it was called Shadows of the Empire. You can see where it's rushed and has low production values in some parts, but it was a lot of fun throwing things around and raping fools with the light sabre.

Beyond the QTE, those things all apply to other games than just GoW. People are reaching with these comparisons. I'm not sure how you can play a game where your primary weapon is force gripping objects and people through the use of physics and think "God of War". That core gameplay mechanic is nowhere to be found in GoW and it's ubiquitous in SWFU, as its primary one. The game is much more like Psi-Ops than GoW or anything else. If you're going to compare it to a game, that should be the one.

I wouldn't say it's closer to Psi-Ops. Sure you have those powers, but Psi-ops was more slower pased game, focusing on shooting your opponent down and using your powers when possible to shift the advantage.

SWFU plays more like GOW where you enter a room, fuck shit up with combos and some force throws, regain the health that you lost and move to the next room.

That's quite basic, though, don't you think? You could describe quite a few games in that manner. You enter a room, destroy things, get health and move on. SWFU's faster-paced and more combat-oriented overall than Psi-Ops, sure, but it shares core gameplay mechanics with it that it doesn't really with GoW beyond superficialities like QTE.

So does that make any game that you get health from enemies a God of War clone?

I mentioend in post 684 why SW:TFU is more a GOW clone then anything else. Maybe 'clone' is too harsh, but I would say they're certainly taking their game mechanics inspiration more from GOW then JKII or Academy or even Psi-Ops.

In The Darkness multiplayer's defense, it was fun climbing on walls as the Darklings. But generally, yeah, it was meh. Gunplay felt strange outside of single-player. Speed was strange outside of single-player. With the right friends, multiplayer gets fun as hell, though. Racing around on floors/walls/ceilings/everything as a Darkling flashed me back to my AvP days. Good shit.

Someone mentioned TimeShift multiplayer. It's fantastic. Delicious weapons. Great customization. Time grenades are wonderful. Lots of depth once you learn that system. TimeShift was a game with very multiplayer-friendly gameplay concepts.

TFU, not so much.

Probably has something to do with the Wii version having a MP mode.

The controls felt a bit loose (running around) and something felt off about the jumping. Also I felt that the camera didn't move fast enough (didn't check to see if there was sensitivity options). After getting the hang of moving shit around with force grip and getting more familiar with the controls (I found the lock on system a little counter-intuitive), things did get more fun. I wish you could move around while holding stuff though.

Saber combos look like they will be fun, although I don't see the point when you can destroy enemies so much easier with the force powers. I couldn't figure out how to throw my saber except for the force grip + saber attack combo, but apparently it is possible in the demo? For some reason what I enjoyed doing the most was blowing open the doors with force push, lol.

Also, lame QTE AT-ST is lame.

This makes it sound like I hated it but I did enjoy the demo, I'm just not sure if it's a purchase yet. Also don't know if I would get the Wii or 360 version...I'll just wait for more reviews I guess.

I really wanted to like this game but the controls and camera did nothing for me. Jumping is odd, floating in the air while attack-jumping feels wrong, inability to move the camera while forcegripping is a deal breaker, target selection-locking feels unintuitive..

Stormtroopers that take 3-4 hits to go down? :/

Visually, it's nothing awe inspiring either. The demo features very bland, very sterile and very boring areas.

I agree with this. The demo did not show much to me...but maybe my expectations were too high as I was expecting to be blown away. Crates are over used, isn't there something else game designers can use besides crates? Force combos were interesting, leveling up your powers is interesting, but the game design shown in the demo was not that mind blowing. I have a feeling it was just a mediocre demo and the game as a whole is probably much better.

Well, I just ordered the 360 version off of Amazon along with the release date shipping option. There is obviously alot of skepticism surrounding this game but I really had a blast with the demo, the story should be interesting, and im a big Star Wars fan so I really look forward to the full game.
