if so this program sucks horrible vs Pictochat for this particular need (long ass car rides with kids). My kids used pictochat more than most of the games on trips

yeah, when I use spotpass I see the other unit and can send a message

Yeah streetpass is only activated in sleepmode so it's not really set up to emulate pictochat, honestly I kind of don't see much point in the streetpass functionality of swapnote altogeather.

The only quantitative thing I can tell you is that more than 10 million handwritten notes have been exchanged in the four weeks after the launch of the service, which you can see in the Iwata Asks interview posted on our website (in Japan) just the other day. So I can say that users are using this software actively to some extent. And, I believe that the number of handwritten notes to be exchanged will increase at an accelerated pace if we can have users continue to enjoy the software for a long time. In fact, we have some plans to encourage more people to use it, and you will find out what I am talking about when we reveal such plans in the future. Therefore, we believe this software will gain more popularity going forward.

10 million notes in 1 month is nice, but I've noticed activity on my FL has slowed since, granted it's all dependent on who you have on the FL and mine is barely at half capacity.

My guess is Animal Crossing integration, and perhaps even general integration in future titles.

Either way, they need to update the app to
- reduce load times
- allow a foldering/sorting system. This will be even more important if you have integration with a game
- allow more notes than the current limit of 3,000 to be saved on card
- fix the 3DS blue light notification so that you don't get repeat messages of 'you have a swapnote' lingering in notifications. I know lots of people turned thier notifications off because of the message spam.

I concur with everything you say sir/madam/Zelda species of indeterminate gender .

I would have thought that the 3000 limit would be enough for most, although if they do add some sort of sifting system e.g. folders then it might not be moot.

I made a list a while ago of updates I would like to see done to Swap Note. So now seems like the perfect time to post it

Even though I know we all love Swapnote,
I thought I should make a list of some improvements that could be made to make it even better.

1: Re-Note / Re-Swap (retweet) - the ability to pass on a message that you received so that you can share it with the other 99 people on your Friends list.
-You can only send a message to the 100 people on your friends list. But you can only reply to the messages that you receive. What if you get a really good message that you want to share with a community much larger than the 100 people that person originally sent it too? I shouldn't have to re-create it, and the originator shouldn't have to shuffle their friends list to make it happen either.

2. Color or Shades of Grey
- It would be nice to add detail to some drawing by using color or a few shades of grey at the very least.

3. More ink per post.
-Not sure I really need 3000 swapnotes, but longer & more detailed ones wouldn't be so bad. So if they sacrificed the ability to store 3000 down to 2000 to allow me double the ink space and an extra page or 2, then I think I would prefer that.

4. Animation Frames
-I'm not talking about full on animated notes, but watching a swapnote is already sort of like watching a story unfold where you can reveal certain things by drawing them last. So it would be nice if you could time your drawing to play out at a certain speed, maybe sync an included sound with that specific portion and allow you to change certain pieces of the drawing while the note plays.

i.e. I draw a happy face man. then I reveal something that surprises him, like a cake being thrown. his facial features change to a surprised look all on the same note page.

5. Multiple pics per note.
As in 1 per page for those of us that can't draw or would rather communicate through pictures.

6. Short video clip in place of a picture(s)
a short 3-5 second video clip could be placed in a note

7. Different Pencil Selections
- Maybe the option to select a thinner pencil and a thicker pencil than the default one provided. This will allow you to maybe add some fine detail lines or thicker outlines to the things you want to add them to.

The ability to select a different stationery for every page of a note.
-backgrounds can be helpful visual tools depending on the portion of the note.

Replies Displayed in Order
-sometimes replies are replies to the reply.... and they would make more sense if displayed in order.

Note Sorting/Search - messages are automatically sorted by date and time, but what if I want to find a message by a certain person and I have over 2000 messages?
or what if I want to trim my friends list down to add new people and want to see who hasn't sent me anything or hasn't been an active swapnoter in a really long time so they can be replaced with someone more active?

Cloud Note Storage
It would be good to be able to back up your favorite notes to the Cloud based Nintendo Account. I doubt the file sizes are very big and it would allow you to also access them from the eventual Wii U app (so that you can finally put that expensive 3D TV to good use)


Anyone else have something to add that they would like to see in a future update or newer version of Swapnote.

This would be great but I don't think Nintendo cares to make swapnote that fully featured.

Also as a general point, regarding the new quotes from the Nintendo Q and A, I read those statements as more hinting about some kind of promotion through swapnote rather than as adding new functionality to swapnote. Hope I'm wrong though.

I want to do the same thing thing but then what would you do? Put out an open call for active swapnote users only? I've got 95 friends but very few notes. If swapnote had communities like MK 7 that would be amazing. I'm sure the gaf community would produce a lot of laughs.
