Swap Note

So, I apparently have all of the special stationary.

Anyone wanting it can add me. My FC is noted in the list woohoo posted above. Send me a PM so I can add you back.

I got a notification on my 3DS telling me I had a Swap Note message, but when I booted it up it told me that it was either from a user I deleted from my friend list or the message had corrupted data. What the hell?

Hey I have 30 slots left on my Friend List for a limited time only!
Act now and you can be my friend too!

4468-0950-2817

Added all the fc's from this page except for Master Sheen (tells me your fc is invalid). My fc is on the big list on the previous page.

Here's a hint, it's 1676 3834 1264

Totally forgot you have to enter in each other's FCs rather than receive friend requests. If you friend me, shoot me a PM with your FC.

Added all yous guys.

I got a notification earlier that said I had already received the note and swapnote was going to delete it for me.

Thanx, I guess?

Edit: I just noticed you said "a user you deleted". How the heck do you this? I added a ton of folks months ago before I realized how lacking the 3DS is in notifying others of friend requests. Is there a way to delete folks who you're waiting on friend request accepts?

After you add someone and they add you back, you need to check back the friends list before opening any notes they send, or else the 3DS won't be aware of your friendship status getting confirmed and will believe the other person is not in your friends list (even if you added them first).

I'd like to get the special stationaries if someone would be willing to send them to me. I already have the Reggie, and Zelda ones. My FC is: 0087-2706-6614

Do you think I'll get the MH note if I play TriG for the first time now? Or did I miss my chance?
edit: I accessed the TriG server a couple of times but I didn't get anything :/
edit2: I got it now :D

Huh, that must have been it then. What an odd way to to do things. I hadn't deleted anyone from my list so I guess it's narrowed down to this. Good one, Nintendo.

Added your details to the collated list in post #2097 =).

It's an outrage!!!

Why don't you ask Nintendo for a refund?!

=P

It could be a bug, but it sure is ass-backwards.

Is it just me or is Swapnote SpotPass a little busted? After hearing about it on 8-4 play I checked the app for my Zelda note. I ran the manual SpotPass check and it indicated I didn't have anything new. Immediately after that I got a SpotPass notification that I had received a new Swapnote. Just opened it today, and it was dated 2/22/2012. What's the point of using SpotPass if you have to go manually check for it anyway?

I also wasn't able to use the Zelda stationary, but I have a feeling it's something I've yet to unlock. Thought I'd already unlocked all the features, but I'll have to send out some more.

Edit: Had the same problem with Reggie's note, I didn't get a SpotPass notification about it until after I opened up Swapnote.

It's basically how spotpass works. If it's closed, it uses Streetpass for a bit, THEN spotpasses usually after.
If its open, it tends to be connected to your internet more as there's the browser, games, e-shop that it checks on.
To get past this limitation they used a manual check.
Also mail tends to send in bunches. If you haven't used it in awhile, you might view notes then back out and see that you have even more notes!

I haven't had to do this with anything else that uses SpotPass, though (Samurai Warriors, notices from Nintendo, eShop notices.)

This uses SpotPass in its own way, you'll get tons of mail which is saved online till you or it decide to get it. Reggie was most likely just being stored and would of been sent
later on if it wasn't for you checking. It's just why that's there.

I added Woo&IndeedHoo and went to add Jocchan, but he's not listed. I guess your Friend List is full.

Thanks :) added you too.

Be prepared to be spammed with all the special stationary and lots of photos of my pussy!

Not everyone who posts in this thread reveals their friend code which is fine :).

Actually it depends on how your 3DS pikmins are feeling. Some days they have more energy than others, you know?

Any proof that a faster class SD card will speed up Swapnote?

It might make it slower actually. I bought a class ten card and it seemed to go slightly slower than the default card in my other 3DS. A Gaffer said that anything over a class 4 card would run slower because of the way the different classes of cards are designed to handle memory. I can't remember their username though I'm afraid.

Ok, I put the wrong friend code. My bad ;)
0645-5824-5228 Username: MW

Corrected!

I'd like to get notes from people! My friend code is 3609-1192-2134. Let me know if you add me so I can add you back!

Added to the list in post#2097 :).

So I'm to the limit with friends but my boyfriend has like 5 friends on his 3ds and is sad about the low activity :)

1762-2673-7592 is his unique friend code!
Pm me or respond here and he'll add you back ;)

(we also have Mario Kart, Resident Evil, and Dead or Alive...)

It's not guaranteed to be the case, but as I posted elsewhere:
Me said:
I've brought this up before, but most folks seem to assume that "Class 10" SDHC cards are better in all ways than lower classes. However, some brief internet searching seems to reveal that, generally, higher class levels only ensure faster speeds for reading/writing large files. For OS use or frequent use/movement of small/multiple files, lower speed level cards can often be far faster.

The guy in the thread you linked to was getting 50-100x quicker read/writes on small, random block access when using his Class 2 Sandisk card in comparison to his class 8 and 10 Kingston and Patriot cards. The latter two cards were clearly faster when it came to transferring large files (writing/reading images, audio files, etc.), but horrible when it came to "file system" use.

It may be worth doing a real speed test on your SDHC cards to determine how speedy they actually are.

Link to one set of speed tests with the data mentioned: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005633

The problem is that higher class speeds tend to sacrifice random access speeds for smaller files, instead focusing on faster transfers of larger files. This tends to be a problem when using SD cards for "file system" use.

We'd need someone to actually check their card speeds and compare them on the 3DS to be certain, though.

Initially I used a Class 4 32GB SD Card for my 3DS. SwapNote was one slow loader and it would literally take me 10 minuites to load all of the messages recieved, and take an additional 30 seconds to mark them as read (if you didn't let the message play back at normal speed). Immediately invested on a 32GB Class 10 SD card, and all of my SwapNote loading problems disappeared.

Cool! Added you!

Thanks :) added you back.

I like your Mii's 'shades' :).

Ah, it was you! Thank you for posting that sir :). My 8GB Class 4 card runs fractionally slower than the default card supplied by Nintendo but that is only 2GB so I don't know if it would be due to that. I bought a Class 10 8GB card but that seemed to be quite sluggish so I am no longer using that. If I can muster the enthusiasm and energy I will conduct a little test of all the SD cards I have. Hopefully someone will beat me to it though :).

Hm, do you think it was the Class 4 32 GB card that was the culprit here? How did you find it with the default card supplied by Nintendo. Was that similarly sluggish?

Considering the Class 4 one was a Kingston and was formatted with the SD Card Association's format software, I seriously doubt it.

The default card supplied by Nintendo, if I'm not mistaken, is Class 10 as well.

It's not. The read and write speeds I got in my comparison test put it closer to class 4 than 10. It's got solid read speeds for smaller amounts of data.

That would make sense. We still need to do a "real world" test of SD cards on the 3DS, checking their Crystal Disk Mark ratings against the speed of access.

I have a class 16GB Class 6 card, and I haven't noticed any delays in loading. It might be a tad slower than the stock card (not sure on that), but I don't find myself sitting around waiting for loading.

Right, it's definitely worth the trouble to go around online and research real world speeds and all that jazz beforehand. I got an 8gb class 10 card on someone's recommendation and didn't notice much improvement from the stock one in loading the icons or swapnotes. Ran it through crystal disk mark and it didn't compare favorably to the stock one for smaller stuff, either.

In short: don't trust the speeds listed on the cards since they're usually at-best estimates chucked on there by the manufacturer!

I finally got wifi in my new apartment and spent about 20 minutes downloading a huge backlog of old/new notes. Hopefully I'll get back to doodling soon!

I shot you a PM and I added you too.

Add me folks

Googles 'crystal disk mark'....hm, this is relevant to my interests!

Thanks gents :).

Heh, that will learn you! :P

Glad that you are back sir :). You should have the new stationary but please do not hesitate to ask if you are missing anything.

Could I get someone to send me the special staionery? The only ones I've received so far are the Reggie and Aonuma ones since I only have a few 3DS friends. EDIT - I have the VDay one as well.
