PSA:I've owned it on D2D for years. Downloaded and activated it no less than a billion times. All the mods work just fine. Buy it and launch it through Steam if you must, but you really should buy it.

Irrational put a crazy atmospheric spin on what most people would expect to be pretty run of the mill string of environments.

You'll have to tactically enter the house of a serial killer, carefully going room to room. Be mindful though, his mom is crazy and he's a little trigger happy himself. There are hostages.

Breach a diner robbery gone wrong. There's a full staff on hand, so spraying an AR will quickly take you back to the menu screen.

How about a club with a gang skirmish going on inside? Way more civilians than hostiles. Should you bring a less lethal weapon instead of a gun? Risky considering the gang war going on inside, but taking live ammo is also pretty risky unless you want to chance popping the head of a club goer with a stray 5.56 slug.

You should be able to run the game with a tin can and a AA battery these day. Requirements are pretty low. They're posted on D2D.

*Not my screen caps and you'll blow these away with anything north of an 8800/4850.

I'd go for it if it was SWAT4 Gold... great game though. It's right up there with the original Ghost Recon games and a fully modded ARMA2 in my favourite tactical shooters and it has those two games beat in spades in terms of atmosphere.

My only issue with the game is that it's way too easy if you use smoke grenade launcher, I can blaze through the levels by myself with that thing.

This game might be my most favourite coop game of all time. It's ultra fun. A lot of fun in singleplayer too.

The only bad thing is the loading times, which is even a nuisance on modern monster computers. But still, super mega awesome game.

my only complaint about this is that it's not the gold edition with the expansion, so it would cost almost as much to get the game and expansion.

I really want to play Swat 4 but I will not buy it without the expansion.

I don't own this game and I did some of the artwork for it. That's a bit shameful. I don't suppose it's out for Mac either. I switched OSes since.

Oh, and with a modern card you can do just about all the control panel super sampling and AA your heart desires. :)

Who doesn't already own this?
Me, but I decided to throw it up on my Goozex queue after this topic. I've been replaying a bunch of shooters recently. Just finished up Sin, half way through Sin Episodes till I decided to start a Halo replay. Heh.

I remember playing the MP demo for this, and getting my ass kicked. Went back to AA or Unreal or BF... some thing else :lol

Never played it, does it still hold up?

Speaking of old SWAT games...

This is all I remember playing, and I remember it being awesome.

I still have a copy of it. I really liked it - a SWAT RTS game is an awesome idea (you can even play as terrorists!). Too bad the game itself is kind of blah.

I haven't played Swat 4 for a year or two but I remember the last time well. Limping, due to having been shot in the foot, I had only two guys left and one last terrorist to deal with. I limped around that club for around 30 minutes before the guy surprised me and riddled me with lead. :/ Great game though.

SWAT 4 is very cool when you're playing with a bunch of people you know, especially in LAN. Missions either go extremely well with zero casualties/injuries or become hilarious (a lot of the rage from getting headshotted late in the game evaporates when you have quipping buddies). Getting frustrated with your teammates, tasering and cuffing them is great fun.

Oh yeah, SWAT4 is by far my favorite Co-op game. You basically have to spread out the gear between door wedges, paintball guns, beanbag shotguns, flashbangs, CS gas and chem sticks... so people actually have to work together and clear rooms one by one.

Crayon Physics Deluxe is also on sale. Also an awesome game.

Fort Zombie is not to be bought at any price.

Oh, and an important part of team play is learning not to arc grenades into door frames and blind the whole team! :lol

The team I used to play with had silly callsigns and everything. We had John Woo cop, Horatio Cain cop, movie-trailer-voice cop...

SWAT 4 is also masterful in SP with a couple mods.

Sure the co-op is awesome, but I don't want new people to think it's some kind of MP only game.
True. The Stetchkov Syndicate has the squad make some good input in a couple of the missions. Plus, playing alone adds to the eerie quiet. You never know if a shotgun guy is in the bathroom right by the door you're opening.

Far from it.

And yes, it holds up 100% Think Chaos Theory+ in terms of graphics. Just fine and dandy. Plus all the SS you can throw in there makes it render wonderfully.

Tsk tsk, don't let your guys die! :D

God I love this game. One of my favorites ever. They really don't make them like they used to.

OH MOTHER FUCKER YOU BLINDED ME. I mean, it usually made more sense to carry the gas mask so renegade flashbangs always fucked me up. :lol

Man I've always wanted to play a game like this, and at 6 bucks that deal is pretty hard to pass up.

Do it!

It's an absolute steal at $6, and it's not a particularly short game, either. Granted it's pretty much completely standalone mission-based rather than story-driven, but there's a good chunk of content there, and even more if you get the expansion along with it.

The gameplay is superb, and Irrational's tendency for atmospheric level design also shines here, with some environmental flourishes you wouldn't expect in this type of game.

Yeah, I saw some co-op servers, but they're empty.

Most of the multiplayer servers are unpatched because of the server hacks as well. Boo.

Ah, what the hell. Bought. My first Direct2Drive purchase (aside from Civ 5 which doesn't really count since it's Steamworks).

I heard this was decent but I had no idea that people considered it a classic.

Wait, so the base game and Syndicate cost less than Gold when bought separately? At least on direct2drive.co.uk.
Ed: What the heck, I'll get it.

If there's a lot of interest in playing online is it worth creating a thread in the match-up board? I'll need a good night's sleep but a few good rounds with Gaf is something I'd really like to do.

In the states it's $3 less than Gold if you buy SWAT 4 on the $6 sale. SS is $9.95 Plus, SS is always $9.95 and you can pick it up later. Regular SWAT 4 will hold you over for a long time.

One of those games that probably won't ever come to Steam because of Sierra and Valve falling out. I'm going to try it, hopefully can get in some not-so-serious multiplayer.

You know I never finished this one. Played a good few hours and was like "okay i'm done" even though I enjoyed it..

That fucking mission
with the fucking cultists and the dead children, jesus fuck.
Feels like I have the entire game ingrained in my memory.

Make sure you get Syndicate if you'd like to get some high-player co-op going, you get a maximum of ten players (two teams) with the expansion.

You go to the web site, sign in, you can view your game and their keys and download them at will. Nice and simple. Never had a problem. There's a download helper that wil let you pause or throttle speed, but you don't even have to use it. You can just download the games through your browser. I've upgraded my PC no less than 4 times since I bought SWAT 4 and it's never gave me a problem with activation.
That's cool, never used the service before.

Quick question about D2D- can I buy it on one computer and then download it on another? Thanks.

Yeah. In my experience (25 games over about 3 years), it's just like Steam except without the client and autopatching.

But the games do download with the newest patch.

They do have a client now, but it's really janky so I just launch my D2D games through Steam. No problem. The client is completely optional. Quoi? Are you talking about the switch from Sierra to EA? I feel like I should know this but I can't come up with anything.

I didn't even think Sierra existed anymore. Aren't their old adventure games owned by Activision now?
