Swedish lactating bloke's dream turns sour

The Swedish dad who's spent the last few months attempting to squeeze milk from his breasts has thrown in the towel, with nothing more than "sore breasts" to show for his efforts.

Student Ragnar Bengtsson, 26, said that male lactation "could prove very important for men's ability to get much closer to their children at an early stage". He accordingly embarked on a rigorous regime of moob-pumping, designed to tease nourishment from his man mams.
His efforts, which involved "stimulating his breasts with a pump" at three-hour intervals, were followed by a television crew, and it was in the TV8 studios on Tuesday that the dream of lactation finally ended with the "Milkman" making his ultimate, defeated, appearance before the cameras.

Or not quite, because Bengtsson has been invited to appear on the The Tyra Banks Show, where presumably he'll trade pumping tips with the celebrity US hostess. Quite what American audiences will make of the whole thing remains to be seen, but not everyone in Sweden was enthusiastic about Bengtsson's bid for sexual equality.

Magnus Talib, a member of the TV8 production team, said: "We never expected the enormous reaction we got; a lot of people were almost blinded with disgust." ®

Couldn´t it work on some guys, because we all have different amounts of fat and lactiferous glands under our nipples.

A guy with severe gynecomastica could probably milk himself :lol

It is possible for guys to produce milk. Its not very common but it does happen.

Why do I know these things. Curse you Discovery channel!

It's not just the gland what seals the deal, it's the hormone stimulus as well. An excess of prolactin could make a man lactate, but the underlying potential causes are far more worrisome than sexual equality.

But isn´t "real" gynecomastica caused by a wrong hormonal balance and a oversensitivity to female sexual hormones? So a guy with it would be more likely to lacate?

Man, I should´ve sticked with studying medicine, fuck you depression!

Oh, feminism in Sweden will go much further than this. It's getting pretty bad. :(

Hopefully Germany won´t follow, I want to keep my figure!

Every show. I saw one interesting where they put electrodes on people while they had sex to figure out what positions worked best. FOR SCIENCE! :lol

Yes. There is a very delicate balance between estrogens, progesterone and prolactin, all hormones present in both men and women, although at different levels. It's the interaction between these hormones what causes breast enlargement and lactation in women, under normal conditions.

Hormonal imbalance, as well as a number of medications, can cause gynecomastia and galactorrhea. However, the role of prolactin in milk secretion is critical. A male can develop gynecomastia because of estrogen/progesterone imbalance, but unless he also has hyperprolactinaemia, it's unlikely said male will lactate, unless he is also taking medications that are associated with galactorrhea, such as risperdal (an antipsychotic).
