Switch already the best selling item of 2017 on Amazon US

Thinking maybe hold off saying stuff like "best in 2017" until the first consoles have been shipped and the pre-order money has been taken off the cards.

Lets see how the april 2017 npd thread goes.

I don't see what the big deal is. Weren't their threads about how well PS4 was doing during pre-order season in 2013? I distinctly remember there were.

There were 2 new consoles available for pre-order at the time.

Didn't even VR sell like hotcakes at first? Especially when surrounded by rumours of limited availability?

I'm not saying it's gonna be DOA, but this really doesn't mean anything imo.

no VR didnt sell like hotcakes at all.

And Wii U in Jan was basically done selling in large quantities

Or more likely coming back to laugh at your post.

They will sell as many as they can produce this year. All reactions to people actually using the device has been overwhelmingly positive. It's only on forums that people are hugely skeptical. My prediction; if they make 10 million this year, they'll sell 10 million. If they make 15 million they'll sell that many. .

Not because it was the best selling product on amazon 2 weeks into january, there were far better metrics, this is totally useless. I believe Sony even said pre-orders were into the millions.

All the hard years of middling WiiU sales already redeemed, and in just two weeks. If I didn't know any better, I'd say whoever made this thread was a bit overhasty.

It's been out of stock for over 14 hours now and is still at #01. The fact that when the PS4pro or the XB1 is out of stock they slip down the charts hourly tells me Amazon are keeping it at #01 artificially. That's not to say it's performing badly (nor should it) but at the moment this means nothing.

No one posted this yet? Cmon Gaf.

Amazon best selling tops are always laughed at in the sales threads. Because Amazon is only a very small part of the market and these tops don't show any relevant trends.

Especially for pre-orders where you don't pay anything they mean really nothing.

This is just like "Super Mario Run is #1 on App Store!" Of course it was, with the huge "pre-registration" campaign and gigantic ad banner across the whole App Store. Is it still? Of course not.

Wait for the first big game of 2017 to come out, and this will change too.

Of course the Switch is gonna sell through its initial 2 million no problem. The question is how it does after launch and if word of mouth or advertising keeps people interested. I don't see the Switch having a great year after march.

It's the 14th of January. It's great that Switch has sold so well over the past few days, but this really doesn't mean anything.

Wii U sold like gangbusters on launch day, too. It's what happens after that will matter.

I hope you'll visit the April NPD thread. I feel like this will be quoted a lot so you wouldn't want to miss the fun.

I don't get it?

It's selling due to

Anticipated demand based on NES Classic
Anticipated shortages
Inflated demand due to hoarders and resellers

I honestly, truely wonder what % pre orders are for people buying one for themselves.

that people have all praised it? why wouldn't I? its launching with the most anticipated game for many people of this year AND last year, followed up by a Mario game which again is overwhelmingly positive.

It'll most likely get its own Pokemon as well. the question is why are you so sure it won't sell as many as they can produce? Is selling out a phenomenon reserved only for the DS, Wii, and PS4 in its first year?
