Switch-Gaf, did the Arms Nintendo Direct change your mind on the game?

I was already interested in getting the game when it was first announced, so honestly this didn't change my opinion. If anything else, it makes me want to get to the test punch already so that I can finally try out the game!

It's not really doing anything for me. Single player being just an arcade ladder with ten matches seems pretty lame. They still haven't really talked about how this game controls as a portable game, still seems like hard pass for me.

No. I'm still not interested in the game.

With that said, I got a chance to play ARMS at an event a few weeks ago so I already know it just isn't for me. I'd play it for a few days and then never again. If it had a single player story mode in the vein of Splatoon I'd be slightly more tempted, but it doesn't appear to have any real single player content at all.

I'm also not a fan of the artstyle and character designs tbh, which seems to be an uncommon opinion here.

My 6-year old nephew will go fucking apeshit for this game.

Me...eh, I'll be playing Tekken and Stormblood. Looks charming and well crafted though, but the direct didn't entice me more than before.

Nope, no interest in the game before, watched a few minutes of the direct and hasn't changed at all. It looks cute and fun and I can totally understand why other people are looking forward to it, but does nothing for me.

No. I played it at Genesis and it seemed kinda fun but kinda slow for a fighting game. Everything I've seen of it since has reinforced that opinion. I'm still buying it because I want more new Nintendo IPs and it seems to be one of their flagship games so I might as well.

I've slowly become more interested in the game, and the ARMS Direct has built some actual hype for me. I think the stress test next week will ultimately be what helps me decide on a day-one purchase.

If I have any huge concerns, they would be: how good the game's controls are in handheld mode/non-motion controls, since handheld is a big part of the Switch for me, and how the online lobby system works (can I invite my friend into an online lobby against other people, or is this another MK8D?).

Yes. I wasn't sure at first. I liked the character design and music, but wasn't sure about the gameplay.

And then I saw her face, now I'm a believer.

Why are we so sure it doesn't have SP campaign?

Because that trailer at the end had a mysterious figure show up that could very well be the final boss of a SP campaign...

Is it because they didn't announce it here? We still got a month to go till release. That could certainly be the focus of an E3 trailer on Nintendo Spotlight thingie.

Sadly this direct did little for me. I'm fairly cold on both of these games. If they ever end up doing a MyNintendo discount or something for ARMS someday in the future I may give it a chance if reviews are good.

Open the stand and take out the joycons for motion controls at least.

I suck at online competitive games and my friends aren't into gaming, so probably not. Will need to play it first before I decide.

No. I just tried watching the direct and couldn't make it through it. It doesn't look like something I'd enjoy. This and Splatoon are two of the Nintendo franchises that completely miss for me.

Nope. Was gonna get it before, still planning on getting it now. Just wish that the JoyCon color options were better around its launch. My neon ones are cool, but I'm not feeling Grey or Neon Yellow.

Nope, doesn't look appealing at all, don't care for these types of games i can see it getting boring pretty quickly, just want Nintendo to give us a damn Metroid Prime game for god sake.

No, reminds me of the shovelware the Wii got.

However on an unrelated note, I am now looking forward to Splatoon 2 which is a franchise I never really cared about before.

I was on the fence before but now I'm totally sold. It's obvious a lot of love went into it and like Splatoon I think it will be a smash hit. Nintendo is on FIRE! 😮

How on earth does this look like shovelware? I may not want it because it's a fighting game, but it looks stylish and very polished.

Went from "wait for impressions and reviews" to "day 1"

This is Nintendo flipping the fighting genre once again, making things fun. Making things not as serious. It just seems like a game everyone can enjoy.

When it was announced I was not felling it very much. It sounded fun but for a rent or 2. Now I'm absolutely sold. Amazing art and music, fun gameplay and free updates with new characters and stages? Count me in. Day one.

Was a nice Direct, but nope. Bad release timing for me (Stormblood is the day before) and have other fighters with better offerings before this comes out too (Injustice 2 and Tekken 7. USFII if you want to toss that in as well).

My feelings on the Direct:

Just the fact they're having a test punch tells me to buy this game. It looks very fun, and the video makes it a lot more likely I will preorder.

Much like Splatoon I like how it looks and sounds (as in the art, animation and presentation etc are all fantastic) but as a mainly single player gamer I can already tell it isn't something that will hold my interest.

So no it didn't change my mind, because I already felt that way about it before.

Still love Ribbon Girl though. <3

Not really, I'm probably still going to pass on the game. Honestly I think the game looks great and everything but aside from the fun I used to have with Power Stone and Smash Bros, I'm just not really into fighting games.

I'll give the demo a chance and maybe it will change my mind.

Nope. Limited single player means I likely won't pick this up.

I'm feel the same way. Would have been nice is there was a narrative element tying the characters together.

The gameplay hasn't sold me fully yet either. Need more impressions and info about what it takes to be skilled.

Mario Kart has filled the party game void on Switch and Tekken 7 releases early June.

Plus this game in general is just kind of garish. The Direct gave me a headache between that announcer, the music and the blinding colours. Wouldn't be surprised if it launches to middling reviews and gets drowned in the aftermath of E3.

My opinion is pretty much the same. I think the character designs and world they've built up are super great. But the actual game doesn't really look like it's my kind of thing.

Yup.

I was like meh before. Now I'm digging it. The other characters did it. And the different stages.

It looks a little more involved than I suppose I was expecting ?

I always thought the game looked neat .. but I wasn't sure if it was "neat enough to buy" territory and I'm still not.

The game looks fantastic and It looks interesting gameplay wise but it's just not what I want in my current gaming life. Back when I had more gaming time I probably would have given it more of a shot.

I don't get the obsession with people demanding a fully fledged single player campaign?

Like Mario Kart has no campaign at all yet everyone seems to be fine with it... it's all about the online and local multiplayer. Aren't most fighting games like this anyway???

I know it would've been nice to have but still

Neatherrelm Studios is highly praised around these parts for being the only fighting game dev that gives a shit about their single player content. Street Fighter V was highly criticized for the same reason. It's really not hard to get why people want single player content, is it? Not everyone has people to play with, or wants to play online.

People want another grand single player campaign from Nintendo, but instead it's three straight multiplayer games with not much to look forward to barring SMO. Disappointing would be an understatement.

Not at all. It still looks incredibly one-note, and I'm worried that the inclusion of additional sportsball modes indicate that the main one-on-one isn't deep enough to hold up the game on its own. The lack of a proper single player is also really disappointing, especially as the opening to the Direct with the "history of arms" was amusing and could have been leveraged for a fun campaign. Hopefully Grand Prix at least has like character endings.

I'm looking forward to the demo times, though, and I hope they prove me wrong.
