Switch Owners, what is your go to Multiplayer game?

Splatoon 2.

Unless I'm with the fam, in which case, Mario Kart 8.

Unless I'm with the bros, in which case, Arms.

But really it's just Splatoon 2.

I currently play ARMS and Splatoon 2, shift when I'm bored of one to the other.

Mario Kart 8 is taking dust, thinking about it, I'll give it a go tonight, same for Bomberman.

Yeah. It's been discounted several times though, including in EU. Where are you located? You can always make an NA account too.

(Yes I'm a bit zealous about this game. It's so good)

I'm in canada so i"d assume we got that sweet 10$ switch tax.

Arms beta was kind of cool but I found myself getting frustrated a lot. Played enough MK on Wii U, I'd probably enjoy it on Switch but don't feel like spending the money.

Splatoon 2 is great, I've probably already put more hours into than I did in the first. Glad I bought it, almost passed because of issues I had with the original (mostly stability - which I learned was fixed last week when I went back to it a bit).

I have Splatoon and Arms, and while I like Arms, I can't seem to be able to stop playing Splatoon. It's just so much fun, and I hate shooters.

Those people are dumb. ARMS is absolutely worth $60.

Eh. I feel like it's comparable to Rocket League in terms of content/modes and that's $20. Not that it isn't fun and very much worth $60 to those who enjoy it a lot and have spent a ton of time with it. I just feel it's not priced adequately in the context of other MP offerings in the market.

Splatoon 2 easily

digital crack

Like, literally.

''I'll get to level 12 and go to sleep, it's late enough.''

*attains level 12*

''Well, just one more game, it won't kill me!''

*Gets 6000 freshness bonus points at the end of the game*

''Well....level 13 ain't that far...''

End of story: I went to sleep at 1AM and became a walking zombie the next day.

Why can't I get into Puyo Puyo Tetris? Like, I played Tetris kind of as a kid. I had it for the Game Boy but didn't really get into it. I tried the PPT demo on Switch and like, the presentation is great and I understand the game, but it just hasn't really clicked with me.

Is anyone else in the same boat, or did it take a while to sneak up on anyone? Part of the problem is I suck, and it infuriates me and challenges my ego because I'm usually really great at puzzle games. But even on normal when I'm playing Tetris the comp just starts dumping shit on my board and I'm like, "fuck this I'm not having fun."

I just don't get it, and I want to get it...

Splatoon and Arms are great, but I never tire of MK8. I thought I was ready to move on after 250 hours on Wii U, but it still has its hooks in me hard.

Gotta be Splatoon.

I never liked Mario Kart. The characters and world never appealed to me very much, especially compared to Splatoon. And I never enjoyed the gameplay either. It's just really frustrating with item rng, etc.

ARMS doesn't appeal to me either. It plays like a normal fighting game with the rock-paper-scissors triangle of attack, block, and throw. I never found that gameplay compelling in fighting games before, and I didn't find it compelling in ARMS either (I tried the test punch).

Splatoon 2 right now but I still dip into ARMS every now and then. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe also has a ton of play time and is probably my go to local multiplayer game.

On the Tetris side, it demands good speed and setups. It depends on which AI character you're playing against (I'm assuming you're playing the demo) but some of them require you to do more complex techniques like T-Spins which require some more planning than usual. The combo system also rewards clearing lines with successive pieces no matter the number of lines cleared, which is different from the "just do tetrises" mentality you might be approaching the game with.

On the Puyo side, it's a bit steeper of a learning curve. It requires more "long-term" planning, since chains grow exponentially in power as the number increases, and doing anything above a 4-chain needs knowing a good number of setups or memorizing patterns you can quickly and consistently setup and execute. It is incredibly rewarding, though. It feels incredibly good to pull off a 10-chain and see your opponent flooded with trash. There are really good players out there though, and I fail even when practicing against the AI from time to time despite knowing a couple patterns and having spent something like 100 hours in the game. Seriously, don't underestimate the game's AI.

The story mode is good at easing you into the mechanics though, and there's a tutorial section in the game, plus some really great online resources for learning Puyo like the Puyo Nexus' Wiki tutorial.

Thanks for taking the time to explain. I was feeling pretty garbage after losing to the AI consistently. I'm wondering if maybe the game just isn't for me. I assume that once you get the hang of it, the pleasure of the game comes from just playing Tetris or playing Puyo, and even when I'm coasting okay and clearing some stuff, I find I'm just not really having a lot of fun -- it kind of stresses me out.

I really enjoy Lumines, though. I dunno.

In a way, it's more like a fighting game than a puzzle game, because of how technical it is and how much "opponent reading" you have to do; you constantly have to figure out whether you can lengthen your chain or combo safely without being attacked, or if you can counterattack whatever attack your opponent is setting up, or if it's time to go all out on offense because your opponent made a mistake. I can see how people could be frustrated since it's not a regular 1P puzzle game where you're 100% in control of what's happening on the screen.

Splatoon 2 is the first MP shooter to grab me by the balls like this since CoD 4: MW.

Can't see myself playing another online MP game on Switch for a while. Locally with mates though? Mario Kart 8 all the way.

Online:
MK8
and (recently) Splatoon 2

Local:
Puyo Puyo Tetris
Astro Duel Deluxe
ARMS
Bomberman R
and (since today) Overcooked!

At this moment in time it is Splatoon 2. I have about 6 close friends who also play so it is even more of a blast when one or more of them are on.

ARMS. It has been a hit with everyone I’ve played it with. Not enough friends own Nintendo Switch to make Splatoon 2 local multiplayer viable, and we’ve already played a ton of Mario Kart 8 together on my Wii U.

Online: Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2
Local: Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2, and the king
Puyo Puyo Tetris
(Super Bomberman R sadly wasn't a big hit)

Will probably pick up Overcooked soon.

beeen trying to decide between overcooked and jakebox party 3.. dunno which to get for more of hang with a few friends and drink and chill

Splatoon 2. I played 70hrs of MK8 on the Wii U with all the DLC and the battle mode is cool, but not enough for me to want to go back for same amount of time. Arms also doesn't look like it's my kind of game. Maybe I'll pick it up when it gets a bit cheaper.
