Switch Pro Controller Vs. WiiU Pro Controller?

Just got a swtich. Really not digging the joy cons that much, ergonomically.

Wondering if I should get a Pro controller or just one of those Mayflash adapters so I can use my WiiU Pro (would probably buy a second one, too).

Which is the better controller?

I know the new Pro has dpad issues but I have the Pokken controller for that already so if it's better in every other way that won't matter.

I prefer the Switch Pro Controller. It just feels so perfect.

Their both comfortable, but switch pro is nice because it has gyro built in. If you have the cash go for the pro.
 
I love the switch pro controller. I just saw wario64 tweeted a while ago that it was 59.99 from overstock.com if that interests you.
 
I dont care for either but if i had to pick id say the wii u pro controller. The switch's dpad isnt very good and it just looks and feels cheap.
 
Wii U Pro is better for battery life (80hrs vs the Switch's 40 hrs) and d-pad, Switch for ergonomics.
 
Wii U pro maybe is better but it has no gyro and you need Splatoon 2 in your life.

I say Switch pro.
 
I have the Switch Pro controller since the console launch, it's a great controller, if it had analog triggers it would be the best controller ever for me
 
after using both a lot, the Wii U Pro would be better if it had the motion sensors. it has better battery life, better d pad and weights less.
 
There isn't a perfect controller, it's a combination of elements from different controllers.

- Look for example the Xbox controller. It feels like cheap plastic. The dpad makes a clicking sound, the 3d stick is way to long and the L and R aren't reachable when you holding the controller. Beside that, it isn't a bad controller, the grip is good.

- the gamecube, I don't like it, the position of the buttons are bad.

- PS4, controller the dpad is a disaster and I don't like the 3d stick too. It's also stuck for years(ps1), maybe about time to change it when ps5 arrives.

- Wiiu controller had a way to small dpad and the controller is way to large to reach the dpad.

I think the snes one is still the most perfect one, I think the switch pro has also a few issues but still feels the best controller for me.
 
Go for the Switch Pro controller, the build in gyro does so much for the experience. It's by far the dumbest design choice of the WiiU Pro controller (coupled with the lack of a 35mm headphone jack, but the Switch Pro Controller is also guilty of that).
 
I personally think that the Wii U pro controller is bad... to the point I thought everyone who would insist on how incredible it is was insane. It's why I was super cautious about the Switch pro controller at first. And then I got one and it's easily my favorite controller to date.

If only they fixed the d-pad thing (not a big deal) and the lack of a headphone jack (a huge deal), it'd be perfect controller.
 
Switch Pro controller has all the functions the Wii U Pro controller is lacking, like gyro and a NFC reader and a button for taking screenshots. If that wasn't the case, I'd probably prefer the Wii U one, if only because I prefer the right stick placement, the d-pad is working as it should and the +/- button are more easily pressable when not looking down at the controller. I took a screenshot or went to home screen unintentionally a fair number of times when I just wanted to press those two damn buttons.

So yeah, Switch controller is a flawed choice, but ultimately a better one I'd say.
 
Just ordered the switch pro pad! Hype!

Just in time for Mario. Let's see how this compares to my favorite pad of all time (bone elite).

The normal joycons are just too small for longer play in TV mode.
 
It's more a personal choice really.

  • WiiU pro controller doesn't have gyro and nfc (and capture button), and cant do wired connection
  • Switch Pro controller doesn't have a good dpad and also has half the battery life

I am used to the joycons with the grip attachement and played without any major problems Thumper and Shovel Knight using the "dpad".

My memory is a little bit blurry but I think I had better jump controls with the joycons when playing Shovel Knight than the wii u pro controller's dpad (playing on the WiiU).

I would go with WiiU Pro controllers because they are cheaper (almost half the price), can also be used with WiiU and have twice the battery life and better dpad. I am not sure how much the adapter is though, so the price argument may be invalid
 
I own both. The real difference between them is the relative position of the two thumbsticks- symmetrical (WiiU) or asymmetrical (Switch).

Personally I love symmetrical thumb stick design, but these days I use the WiiU controller just for PC.
 
The U Pro controller is one of my favorite controllers to hold, a shame the Switch doesn't support it natively.

The Joycons in their grip controller aren't too bad though, think it's a pretty clever invention and it's a nice gesture they included it with the Switch too, they could have easily sold it separately and let us fiddle with two loose joycons in our hands. Which for people like me with big hands is not so great.

I just wish controllers weren't so expensive.
 
My Wii U pros are old so they feel flimsy and very loose when you do button presses in comparison to the Switch pro controller. They still work but I would not use them for competitive games....such as smash.

I should get a new U pro today and I could conpare that one to my switch controller.
 
I wasn't even aware there was a way to use the WiiU Pro controller on the switch. Would've saved me a bit on the Switch Pro controller.

That said, aside from the steep price, I'm satisfied with the Switch Pro controller.
 
I want a Switch Pro controller with the Wii U Pro's D-Pad & Aesthetics.

The Switch Pro controller looks like a Mad Katz knock off, it's so damned ugly
 
I've used both a fair amount, WiiU with Smash and Switch Pro with BotW, and I really like the Switch Pro. Triggers and bumpers feel a lot nicer and it just rests in my hands better than the WiiU one did. Switch Pro felt a lot sturdier too. If you can afford it, go for the Switch Pro.

Also 8Bitdo makes a solid alternative with the N30 Pro and the F30 Pro.
 
I've always wanted one of those Wii U Pro controllers, but never got one. However, I will echo the sentiments of many other people here and say that the Switch controller - which I do own - is really comfortable and easy to use and I highly recommend it.

Regarding the Wii U Pro controller, I was exactly the same as you, until I finally got one last week, and it's REALLY good. I was very much surprised at how good it was and felt very relieved to be honest, Nintendo stopped producing them and I have been watching their prices go up every day!
Take my advice and go get one while you can.

All that being said though, the Switch Pro controller is the best controller my hand ever held :)
 
Personally I have to give it to the Wii U Pro. I do really like the Switch Pro, but the lack of a good dpad, and the battery not lasting months on end hold it a bit back from the Wii U Pro. Either option is good though, but depending on the game (Arms/Splatoon), you may need/want that gyro control and still need to pick up a Switch Pro if the Joycons don't do it for you. I personally love the joycons as well, not having to have both hands in a single spot has made gaming for long sessions really really nice, although I admit, on some games (like splatoon for me personally) it doesn't feel quite as good as using the Switch Pro.
 
Nothing beats the Wavebird. So I heard they recently made the Switch compatible with the Gamecube controller adapter.
