Switch wakes up video signal while charging on dock - Needs fix [UP: Fixed!]

Yup, KS7000 owner here and it happens to me around 2-5 times a day. Pretty annoying. I don't want to have to turn off the system completely, so lately I've just not been putting in the dock until I'm not using the TV. The Switch can last on sleep mode for a pretty long time so it's not a big issue.

Hope it gets fixed though.

Had a similar issue.
I've got all my systems hooked up to a HDMI switch box, then it goes to my Yamaha receiver and into my Panasonic Plasma.
When playing on another system I got a black screen ever couple of minutes.
I removed the Switch from the switch box and gave it it's own input on the receiver which fixed it for now, but it's far from ideal.

I saw people discussing this in another thread and it seems to be an issue with newer Samsung sets specifically.
Not so. See other posts in this thread

I have it with this setup:

Nintendo Switch > HDMI switch box > Onkyo HTX-22HD AV receiver > Epson 1751 projector

This is not HDMI CEC, I don't think.

All my other consoles don't exhibit this behavior.

Does the PS4 trigger the video signal when it is updating/downloading in standby mode?
Not for me.

Nope, never heard that being an issue. It seems to be something Nintendo hardware likes to do. Also, the new Samsung TVs, with a media box for all HDMI connections instead of connections on the TV, are apparently sensitive and switch inputs too often, as non-gaming forums have complaints about it.

The Xbox One, on the other hand, has zero HDMI game. Just uses Kinect to control the TV. Thanks Mattrick.

This keeps happening to me too, it is really annoying.

[Nintendo Switch] -> [5 port HDMI switch, auto sensing but with manual selection also] -> [TV].

We were watching television last night after a Zelda gaming session and it kept flicking back to the Switch screen randomly. Nothing I have ever owned before has done this (I also have a PS4 Pro, Apple TV and a PC plugged into the same HDMI switch and they never take focus without me saying so).

ironically I have the complete opposite problem. HDMI-CEC doesn't work at all for me. I dock the switch it doesn't turn on the TV.. I turn off the TV (or Switch) and it doesn't turn the other one off.

CEC works just fine on my other devices (well, there is a weird issue with Apple TV, but I am certain that's on samsung because of ARC). And when I scan CEC Switch even shows up...
I also can't get any HDMI CEC to work with my Onkyo HTX-22HD AV receiver. Even when connecting the Switch directly.

Trying this, complete power cycle whilst docked, seems to have solved it for me.

I have the Samsung KS8000 TV..confused as to how to fix this..what does it mean complete power cycle while docked? Whats SO annoying about this thing is that even while docked and I turned it "OFF" it still will turn back on as soon as I place it back on the dock..and then eventually the green light on the dock turns off and when I go to source I see that HDMI 4 is greyed out but it will still turn on..I will go in front of the TV and it will turn on so I got sick of it and I unplugged the HDMI from the oneconnect and this morning I plugged it back in so far its OK but I know once I start playing the switch its gonna happen again

I'm on an LG OLED and randomly get notifications from my TV when it receives the video single so I can quickly switch inputs. Which in this case I obviously don't want to do. Pretty annoying!

I keep my system in sleep mode on the dock. Using a Samsung KS8000 I get no signal until I pull the system slightly out then back in. Annoying but honestly but not a huge deal.

I have this setup as well. But I have connected 5 devices:
1- Cable box decoder
2- PC
3- PS3
4- Wii U
5- Nintendo Switch

Today I was watching TV (Input 1) and it keep going to Input 3 (PS3) even though the PS3 is turned off and it isn't configured to check for updates at that hour anyway. It has only started happening after I connected the Nintendo Switch. I don't understand what is happening.

No issues here on a Sony Bravia 2015 Android TV. I imagine that the Switch is built to the HDMI spec which TVs ignore to be more friendly, assuming any activity is wanting to switch to its input. I remember my mums blu ray player doing similar but a firmware update changed it.

I'm not having this problem, but I have noticed the Switch doing something my other consoles or TV peripherals don't do...

When I "wake it up" from sleep mode, my (old i.e. from like 2009) Samsung TV will automatically turn on or, if it's already on, changes to the Switch's input. But I haven't noticed it turning on unless I specifically bring it back from sleep or mount it to the dock once it's already on.

Maybe Nintendo designed the Switch with my exact TV in mind (lol), because it's been hella convenient. But FWIW, I'm going right from my Switch to the TV. I also have a PS4 and Roku hooked up directly to the TV.

Yeah, I have the same thing on my LG OLED B6. Sometimes the message pops up that the Switch's HDMI port has become active, despite the console being in sleep mode. It goes away after a few times. Still, definitely something they need to fix with the next update.

I also have this on my LG OLED. It pops up the channel icon, but then it immediately disappears and doesn't actually switch channels.
Still annoying.

I use an Asus PC monitor and it does it on that too. I settled for unplugging the HDMI cable from my switch while I'm not using it

I am having this issue. Switch, PS4, and 360 plugged into this HDMI switch, going to this projector. Signal will randomly cut out when playing the PS4 as the HDMI switch detects another input becoming active and will eventually switch back to the PS4.

My WiiU did the same thing. It's not related to any HDMI settings, but to the wake-up funcionality. Every time it would seek for updates in the internet, it's light would turn into yellow and it would wake up the HDMI port in the TV. One I disabled it, the problem vanished.

I don't have a Switch yet, but maybe it's related? Is there a similar configuration?

Well, I have a Wii U and a Switch, both hooked up to the same HDMI splitter-switch thing. I have never had this problem with the Wii U, and it has been a regular issue with the Switch.

It is so odd, I can go hours without any trouble, then it will start causing problems at relatively short intervals.

At this point, I'm just turning it off when I'm not using it. Pretty inconvenient, as you can't power down just using the controller.

Also, I'm on a Vizio TV with a splitter thing that auto-detects signals.

Has anyone heard anything on the Samsung forums or anything? This is like a deal breaker for docked mode.

This is weird because I just moved my XBox One S to a different TV (Samsung 4K) and the XB1S has started doing this. I haven't had any problems with the Switch yet.

I've also had my 1080p Samsung TV for about five years now. I'd never even heard of or seen Anynet+ until I hooked up the Switch and a Roku Express to it last week.

You can turn off the switch in docked mode. It's a little extra hassle but not super annoying to deal with. Hold the power button down when it's in the dock and it'll turn off.

Ive had the same issue with my LG 55UH6030 4K TV.

It feels a bit random but happens every 15-20 minutes or so. I basically leave it undocked when Im using another input because its extremely annoying. It doesnt change inputs automatically but it pops a notification every time.

I noticed this happening last night when I was watching a movie. The TV (LG B6) won't switch inputs, but it shows the animation for a new device connecting. It happened about 10-15 times in 2 hours.

Sometime when I watch something on Netflix on my B6 OLED I noticed that there's a tab popping of my switch's HDMI port as if I turned on the console.

At some point it got on my nerve and I unplugged the HDMI from the dock. Hopefully they will fix this soon.

no

isn't there a disable HDMI - CEC option from the console settings menu? To disable CEC until Nintendo fixes it.
On both ps3 and ps4 you can enable/disable this feature

It's not CEC related as far as I can tell. The TV seems to listen on the HDMI ports and if it sees a new signal it assumes you just turned something on and want to watch it - so it switches.

Seems like an idea designed to be 'helpful' but ends up being a PITA because lots of devices have a noisy HDMI signal even when in standby. I can't believe it is something that can't be turned off in the TV settings - crazy oversight

One workaround would be to buy a manual HDMI switch and just plug the switch into it. Then when you aren't using it you can switch it to another input so the TV doesn't see it

I've noticed the CEC can be finicky at times. For instance, after I dock the system, nothing works until a sleep wake cycle occurs.

Hopefully there's a fix coming.

Well, isn't that basically how CEC works?
I disabled CEC setting on my receiver (my TV still has the setting on) and haven't had the issue for last couple of days.

End result might be similar but inplementarion is different

HDMI-CEC uses specific signalling to switch and hand back inputs and also extends to controlling other equipment like passing through volume controls to the receiver when I press buttons on my TV remote.

This Samsung implementation is dumbly looking for what appears to be activity and then guessing it needs attention. And getting it wrong

that is how i understand it too. Then obviously every manufacturer has its own CEC implementation (most of the times is not called CEC but XXXlink or whatever they consider) And even some of them i think do not follow the standard strictly so how the TV and devices interact may vary.
I have zero issues with my ps4/chromecast/ps3 on my Sharp and Phillips TVs. But i've never managed to get chromecast cec work on an LG TV.

this used to happen with my wii u, every time the light turned yellow instead of red

only happened with using a hdmi split box, plugging every console directly to the tv or home theater doesn't cause this

The switch only sends CEC signals when you request it to. AKA, hitting the home button button. All this other stuff is auto-sensing from manufacturers trying to "help".

Spoiler alert: don't get a TV where the manufacturer tries to help. Remember "sharpness filters"?

What I think is happening is that the Switch is checking if it is in docked mode when it wakes up.

It isn't sending a HDMI-CEC signal but because many devices don't use CEC when turned on and TV manufacturers want their sets to autos witch inputs they are set up to change inputs on any activity on the HDMI port.

So the solution is for either everybody to start using HDMI-CEC properly or for Nintendo to fix their one thing.

Huh. This would concern me as someone who uses an HDMI switch/splitter. If I'm using another device on that input, I wouldn't want the Switch randomly stealing focus.

i found out that it only happens in sleep mode. just turn off the switch completely and problem solved.

wtf i didnt even know you could do that, how?

Same tv and same problem here. I just take it out of the dock when im not playing, only way to get rid of the problem.

just chiming in with the rest of the voices here to say that mine is doing the exact same thing. I have my switch plugged in to an HDMI splitter (that shares a connection with my PS4 Pro and Nvidia Shield) and having the switch docked while in sleep mode causes the input to switch to a black screen for a few seconds randomly every once in a while.

For now, I've just been undocking the Switch while I'm not playing it, but that obviously isn't ideal.

Same here. It gets detected periodically by my HDMI auto switcher when doing something else. Goes to a black screen for a few seconds every so often. I just undock it when using something else that's on that switcher (PS4, PC, Wii U, Apple TV). I have the TiVo directly to the TV so at least I don't have to worry about it when watching TV.

Hopefully it's something they can patch though. The PS4 doesn't cause it to switch when it does background updates etc.

So it seems HDMI switchers are the common theme here?

But obviously things were working fine before so Nintendo should really fix this.

I have no HDMI switch, it's all plugged in straight to the TV. It's funny how the issue doesn't event seem to follow a pattern, it can go 15min without popping up and then suddenly it does it like 3 times in 5min.
