Switch will not have an Internet browser (at least at launch)

I've never used any web browser in any gaming system, so this is not an issue for me. I just find them to be clunky and unresponsive, plus why would I browse the web on a TV or handheld?! I can do that on my PC thanks. The exclusion of video apps kinda sucks (Netflix, Amazon, etc), since I actually use them in my console all time, even the Wii U one. Now I'm gonna have to switch between consoles... no pun intended

They won't even confirm the status of their own fucking eshop?

What sort of clownish buffoonery are Nintendo doing here?

You need a browser to play online?

Many public wi-fi points require using a webpage to 'sign in' before you can actually access the internet in any way. If the Switch doesn't have any way to display those pages, then those wi-fi points will be useless. Even for just playing online.

Not that I'm trying to defend this or anything, but do people actually use browsers on consoles? I've never once used it on any of mine (Wii Wii u ps4 ps3 vita 3ds). If I wanted to look something up while I'm playing a game, I would just pull my phone out. I personally never saw the point in them.

I just have a feeling that they should have released this thing this fall...it's not just the internet browser, but the console just feels unready.

I sincerely can't tell if this thread is a parody thread or not. Browsers are hardly a necessity for a video game console. What is going on here?

This is the biggest non-issue for the Switch yet. Out of all the things that are ... not ideal... about the Switch, this is near the bottom of the list.

Ever seen any page like these? Where you have to login through a webpage to access a wifi network.

I've never bothered with console internet browsers. Too cumbersome and clunky, especially when I have my smart phone at my side.

They wanted to make it so amazing, they even cut features! Still more expensive than the market leader though.

they're doing us a favor! if they included a web browser, youtube and Netflix they'd have to charge us $399 or more. good guy Nintendo always looking out for us!

No internet browser... I wonder where the screenshots we take will go to? Just the internal memory? Or will you be able to at least connect a Twitter (yay compression!) to share them? Or will they do something to the Nintendo account so that you can view screenshots you took on your browser? Or that one app they'll release? Hmm questions.

If you market your console as portable - meaning you're going to airports, hotels whatever public wifi, a browser IS needed.

It just does not fit the portable aspect AT ALL to not include a browser

Pff why to use Netflix when i built them on my Smart TV ? You dont have one well duh uh buy one who cares /s

I wonder what the fuck Share button does do or they added for considering you cant share them? No twitter , no facebook etc.

The EarthBound strategy guide and NES classic manuals are internet-based, but it's not like I'd interrupt Switch use for that kind of stuff.

Already said you login to Twitter and Facebook to be able to share screenshots on the device itself.

It says right in the interview

As for Miiverse, while Miiverse will continue to be supported on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS systems, our approach with the Switch is to make greater use of other established, broadly used social platforms.

In this thread, Switch is a home console

Wait for the next performance thread to read about the amazing portable aspect

Wouldn't surprise me if they just won't bother with it. It's one potential vulnerability less, after all, and looking at both the 3DS and Wii U, Nintendo seems to have problems making its OSs secure.

It's a shame and it should be there, but I can't say that I personally will miss it. Never used PS4's browser, never used Vita's browser, never used 3DS's browser and stopped using Wii U's browser once I bought a Chromecast a couple of years ago. Wii U's browser was nice for watching YouTube (the app is crap) and for uploading screenshots, but I would never use a device that isn't a PC or smartphone for actually browsing the web.

Still, a new platform shouldn't offer less functions than its predecessors, that's just ridiculous.

At least they will have things they add in, rather take away and patch out of the console over its lifespan.

For example, ps3 Linux....

I will just use the device I'm using, right now, to browse the internet. Don't see why it is an issue, the browser on PS4 is not optimal at all and I would only use it as a last measure, which is rare in itself. Although Switch with an internet browser would be neat with the touch screen.

Connect through phone
tether switch to phone
???
Internet

That decreases speed, since the bandwidth has to be shared with the phone. At best it's a slightly less optimal solution than it could be, at worst it's gonna stop me from playing at places with shitty connections (of which there are plenty where I live).

Edit: Hadn't considered the tethering often carries an extra charge as well.

Oh, what... how will I ever browse GAF or watch PewDiePie if the Switch doesn't have a browser? How will I follow a gamefaqs guide while playing Zelda? Better call my internet provider and cancel my contract.

Lol I can count the cumulative amount of times I've used the browser on PS4, 3DS, Wii U, and Xbone on one hand. One finger, probably.

While not as bad as this, the PS4 was missing a bunch of streaming content at launch. It came, though Switch will need this to come sooner rather than later.

At least Netflix.

I dont know what phone you have that you can connect to a wifi network and bounce another different wifi signal to another device. At most it'll use bluetooth and we have no idea if the switch is capable of getting IP through bluetooth.
