Sword of the New World (PC)

So this is apparently going to be one hell of an RPG/MMO. When is this game going to be released and how much will it cost per month?

I signed up for the beta just now, hopefully they will give me a chance to try it out.

Sword of the New world is also known as Granado Espada, which is more or less your usual Korean MMO, tons of grinding, blah blah. The only difference (admittedly unique) is that the player has a "family" where you basically get 2 other characters to control at once.

The only MMO coming out anytime soon that anyone needs to worry about is Warhammer Online. Quite possibly the final hope for the genre in the wake of WoW.
Age of Conan...

Edit: Thank you, Nesmar.

Ah well. I have the Dreamfall demo torrent downloading at like 450k/sec. I hear this game is like one of the best PC RPG's you can play.

Wait, Dreamfall is a RPG? I thought it was a point-and-click adventure like its prequel, The Longest Journey.

I don't see whats so great about Warhammer, Age of Conan and Tabula Rasa look more interesting

This may go for the other two, but I haven't heavily researched them so I could be mistaken...

But the best thing Warhammer has going is the fact that you can go through the entire game without ever killing anything in PvE. You can PvP from rank 1 to 40 and beyond. The entire focus and direction of the game is just a breath of fresh air, though there are some issues. Also a big plus, there are no classes with invisible/stealth and no classes that are support only. Also, even with all its myriad faults, DAoC is still the most fun I've had in any online game ever and the feel of the player combat was ace, even though it will be radically different in WAR. And Marauders get tentacles... (whistles at avatar).

I think the idea of a shooter/MMO is not appealing in the least.

Warhammer looks like WoW with good PVP, interesting, but I'm sick of WoW-esque Gameplay.

Age of Conan seems cool and I'd give that a shot but...the only MMO that's the REAL hope for the genre is:

PIRATES OF THE BURNING SEA

It is nothing like WoW. There are no raids. Loot is negligible and mostly for looks. The entire focus of the game is RvR and what PvE there is (pretty much only quests) are all related to the larger war. The game is balanced for RvR first and PvE second. They're like completely opposite games. I think you'll find the actual combat itself is quite a bit different as well, though much is still unknown.

I'd go for a 40k mmo. I cant stand any more orcs and elves.

They're making one, but even if the setting is more to your liking it is doubtful it will be anywhere near the quality of WAR. It probably won't be out for many, many years though at any rate. It was just /announced/ recently.

When I say WoW-esque, I'm referring directly to the the combat. Which does, from every video I've seen, looks just like WoW's (or more accurately, EQ).

WAR and AoC are both games to look forward to IMO. I'm on the fence about both though, but I wont count them out. If neither of those click with me than its a wait until Biowares/Squares/Blizzards next MMOs. Pirates peeps my attention as well.

I don't know anything about PC gaming right now, sorry.

I'll just say that you're likely going to be pleasantly surprised if you give it a chance. But feel free to make assumptions based on pre-alpha footage of a single racial pair without having read anything about it.

I mean, what is it about WoW's combat that you dislike and feel will be included in WAR?

Auto-attack.

Well, WAR does have auto-attack, but you're not going to get very far if you use it. Or at least one class (Orc Choppa) is confirmed to have auto attack, though I think the others do as well.

:lol Well, it actually caused me to go check and it turns out they added some sort of "action" segments to Dreamfall which sound pretty bad. I'll still probably try it whenever I have free time.

So you dislike just about every game out there?

I'm pretty much done with it, which is why I am definitely more interested in Age of Conan over WAR. I have no doubt Mythic will put together a solid RvR system with PvP being much more significant, but I'm pretty much tired of any and all games that, no matter how much they stray from the formula, use the EQ base.

I'm sure you're enthusiastic and just want to defend WAR from any flak, but saying the games are completely opposite is being silly. In focus, obviously, in gameplay? hardly. And you're fooling yourself if you think that "pre-alpha" gameplay is going to change in any huge way, they're not going rewrite the whole combat engine into something totally different.

"So you dislike just about every game out there?"

What part of "Tired of" sounds like" dislike to you? Having played MMOs for some time and playing a majority of them, I'm ready for MMOs to branch out from it.

You know, I've played a shit ton of Korean MMOs. And one thing I've noticed is that while the art is alright, the execution is just absolutely shitty. Walking around is task in itself, as they apparently haven't embraced the wonder that is WASD. :(

If they had a good designer with a good imagination, I bet they could make one hell of an MMO.

Here are some release dates:

Granado Espada Infocomm Asia Holdings 02/28/07 AS
Sword of the New World: Granado Espada K2 Network 07/10/07 US
Sword Of The New World: Granado Espada K2 Network August 2007 EU

I enjoyed Ragnarok Online would be interesting to try this one out.

Wow. You're just determined to be stubborn.

"has auto-attack, is WoW-clone and will play just like WoW and EQ!!!!"

I think you're missing a lot of subtleties here, but to each his own. Have fun with AoC.

Wow, you're overreacting and hostile. I'm not interested in that vein of combat any more, simple as that.

Well, seeing as I don't know much about AoC (site seems pretty barren) how does its combat differ?

Dreamfall isn't an RPG.

Dreamfall isn't a point and click adventure either and it's nothing like The Longest Journey. There's no bullshit Myst-like obtuse puzzles in Dreamfall like there was in TLJ which makes it all the more enjoyable. Plus Dreamfall's story goes well beyond the Grimm Fairy tale stuff presented in TLJ.

Just a great, great game (though some may disagree how much of a game is really there) and it's one of the best videogame stories ever.

Hay I heard LOTRO was pretty kickin' :P

beta's up on file planet (for subscribers) if anyone is interested. s'ok so far.

-- tons of grinding

the longer the grind the better, so that's not a bad thing, at least not to me. :p

the afk botting isn't as productive as you'd think. sure, you can kill stuff while you aren't paying attention, but as soon as you get feared or stunned or knocked down or the mob runs away, it's broken. it doesn't pick up loot or heal (unless you're in heal mode and thus not attacking) either. it's actually a really nice way to handle the combat instead of having to tell each one of your characters what to do, and alleviates the grind somewhat.

yeah, the grind. <3 it!!

I was interested in sword but I doubt i'll get a very playable experiance on my pc, I can put up with 20fps in games like this but looking at it my machines going to struggle at that.

Played a closed beta of it, it was good but not great.

The grind was harsh because there practically no quests at all. Between level 1 and level 25 I did about 10 quests.

The graphics are incredible, the texture mapping and attention to detail is simply phenominal. This game cost $56 million to make and it does show.
The music was pretty good too. Lots of techno and some zones/dungeons have multiple tracks that you can choose from.

You could tell who was AFK auto-botting because they were the ones standing still doing nothing.
I turned on the option "Move as a team", unless thats on all 3 group members will have to be moved and told to auto attack seperately. Then to move places I would use the "move to this spot and attack everything in your way".

Combat was nice but mainly in the dungeons. Enemies out in the world were few and far between but some rooms in the dungeons were seriously jam packed full of enemies. It was quite fun to wade through a sea of enemies and leave a wake of death.

I hope when it is released it uses an item mall with no monthly fee, that way I pop on it and play whenever on off days from the monthly fee MMOs.

Are you playing it now? When I played it all I did was turn down the texture mapping to speed up load times but I had a 20 to 30 framerate pretty much at all times, even the rooms with over 30 enemies in them didn't dent the FPS. I was amazed how well it ran, I turned shadows and water reflections On because they didn't affect the framerate either.
I have a pretty old computer too(well, now): 2.54MHz, 1GB RAM, GeForce 5700.

Wait for Age of Conan, PoTBS or Guild Wars 2(if they don't **** up the good bits of GW).

I understand what Tre means by wow-clone and wow combat. Nearly everything is a slow dice roll, that it really pulls me apart from the action.
